The Alpha's Exchanged Mate -
The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 152
Edwina’s POV…
I woke feeling rejuvenated; there is always something about s*x with Xander. It’s another way of easing off stress and exercising the whole length of you. I stretched with a wide smile playing on my lips.
His side of the bed was cold; he must have left a long time ago. It was nice to have him around at night after what seemed like a long time. Just as I stepped out of bed, a soft knock came from the other side of the door.
“You can come in,” I called out to whoever was at the door, knowing the door wouldn’t be locked since Xander had stepped out first.
“Good morning Luna.” Becca greeted with a huge grin on her face.
“Becca!” I called out like it had been ages we had seen. But In the real sense, it had been a long while since Becca came into the room to help me dress up. I was either up early, or Becca was having a down moment. It was nice to see everything falling into place.
“Is it safe to say I have missed being here every morning?” Becca looked around the room, taking a deep breath. “It seems like ages.”
“I could say the same, too,” I muttered. “What do you have planned for today?”
Becca shrugged, “nothing out of the ordinary unless you decide to visit your sister today.”
“Not bad then, which implies I could rest in for a while and read some books. But before then, come Becca.” I patted the space next to me.
She didn’t hesitate this time around, and it felt pleasing.
“What would you like to do today?” I asked her.
“Shift and run through the woods.” She responded
“Oh, that sounds exciting. Can I come with you then?”
You could tell Becca was taken aback by my request.
“Won’t you be scared?”
I shrugged, “just because I do not have a wolf does not mean I can’t stand to see another wolf. I have seen my father and sister shift into their wolf form a whole lot of times. And it’s beautiful, if you don’t mind, I would love to see yours too.”
Becca sprung out of the bed in excitement, “let’s head out then.”
“Err, I really need to get dressed.” I purred, giggling.
Dressing up hurriedly, we both moved out of the packhouse in excitement. Sharing an inside joke and trying to avoid being seen at the same time. The woods were so thick I almost thought it would all be bushes around. But I was more surprised when there were clear paths amongst long-standing trees.
Becca had packed up a new attire to wear since the one she had on would be ripped apart after shifting. Moving a bit farther away from me, I could sense the change in her posture. Almost as if she was summoning some sort of energy inside of her, I could hear her bones cracking and her body bending to each sound.
Within a minute, Becca had transformed into a big, what I would consider a fluffy brown wolf. She motioned her head for me to come close to her.
Trying to steady my nerves, I moved close. The sight of her had me guffawing, I caressed her fur, and she howled loudly into the early morning sky. Becca looked so beautiful in her werewolf form. Sonia’s own was just as beautiful; her wolf was a deep grey. She would never let me come close to her, almost like she thought I would jinx her with my lack of wolf.
Still nodding towards me, I took that as a need for her to race off. The joy of having a wolf is being able to burn out the hurtful feelings one might probably be experiencing at the moment. Heard it eases off the pain.
Most times, I wish I wasn’t so weak and owned a wolf. But only the moon goddess knew why she did that to me. Becca raced off into the woods, howling; I could hear some distant wolves howling along. It felt incredibly beautiful having others who are like-minded to you.
It wouldn’t have been bad if I didn’t appear as the sole person without a wolf. If anyone else had been like me, my life would probably not have been so miserable. But then, I had a whole lot to be thankful for. The moon goddess definitely has joyful plans for me. After what seemed like a long time of sitting, Becca appeared back from the woods, panting her way towards me.
She shifted right back in front of me. Lowering my gaze, I handed her clothes back to her. Checking the provision bag that I had carried with me just in case; it contained two bottled water and some snacks. I thought shifting and running through the woods was more like having a picnic.
Becca giggled like she could hear my thought, “thanks for the water.”
“Why did you smile then?” I asked
“The bag content made me laugh. I didn’t realize you packed all that.”
I pouted, “I had asked one of the maids to pack them up for me when you went to your room to get a change of cloth.”
“That’s so thoughtful of you, ” she cooed.
“Are you ready to tell me what’s on your mind now?” I inquired.
“How would you know I am thinking of anything?”
“Maybe because I’m your friend and I can tell exactly when you have a whole lot on your mind.”
She sat next to me, stretching out her pretty legs. It’s a sad myth that werewolf females have pretty long legs. Outstretching mine, too, it doesn’t appear to be good-looking like Becca’s. I tried to draw my attention back to her when she started talking.
“As angry as I thought i was yesterday, seeing Caleb not eating made me feel a bit guilty. Maybe I acted too cold towards him.”
“You do know what got him reeled right?” I teased, bending my head.
Becca blushed profusely, looking away from me, “stop it Luna. Probably he was just upset over something.”
“I can bet it with you it’s because of Carlos.”
“Caleb isn’t interested in me that way and neither is Carlos. Maybe you just need to chill out and stop reading those romance books.”
I giggled in response, “If I don’t read them, how then do I live in this fantasy world of mine?”
We both laughed as we dusted ourselves, heading back to the main house. Becca’s phone rang then; she picked it up and went silent.
“What’s wrong?”
Her eyes shone, “your sister just went into labour.”
