The Alpha's Exchanged Mate
The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 151

Alexander’s POV…

This can’t be happening right now. To think that I was really trying to make them see the light at the end of the tunnel. I have a feeling Caleb has influenced the young men to be unresponsive.

“Can one of you say something please.” I eventually blurted when they weren’t saying anything.

Carlos was the first to speak, scratching the back of his head, “it’s a great idea, but don’t you think we are moving a bit too loose?”

I watched each of them closely as they tried to avoid my eyes. Maybe I was moving a bit too fast, but is it possible that none of them caught the vibe I was feeling in the process?

“So, what are you all mute for?” I asked.

“You know how rampant canine distemper can go, I feel like we should be more conscious before putting our men out after the sizzlers get through the lockdown.” Jason tried to explain.

“Aside from that, do you think two weeks is enough to conquer the whole of sizzlers pack? Considering that most of our warriors are still in training.” Caleb added.

I chewed on my lips, thinking about what they had said. “How far are the prisoners now with their training?”

“On my part, I would say good enough.” Responded Carlos.

Carlos’s response obviously didn’t sit well with Caleb, as he gave him a distasteful glance. “Are you listening to yourself? Do you think planning a counterattack is just about swinging swords like a novice?”

Licking his lips in reaction to Caleb, Carlos scoffed, deciding it was best to not let Caleb get to him. And I couldn’t be prouder; the both of them getting into a fistfight would result in me being forced out of my chair, and we definitely don’t want that yet.

“What are you all insinuating now?” I queried

Jason shrugged, “figure out a new way to approach things, just like the way we had the spies get caught.”

“I think the actual question you aren’t asking now is; what exactly is our aim in this said war or attack? If we are catching them unawares, then we should definitely have something visible in mind.” Did I remember to mention that Carlos is exceptionally brilliant?

“Hmmn, that’s the right question.” Caleb nodded in agreement.

The joy I felt knew no bounds, and I wanted to leap out of this chair, but whatever bromance that was about to ensue between the both of them really had nothing to do with me.

Seem like only Caleb and Carlos refused to notice what just transpired, as Jason shared a look with me.

“Come to think of it, I have no intention of razing down the sizzlers pack for the sake of the innocent lives involved.” I explained, “but don’t you think a negotiation and signing of a contract would really do?”

“A negotiation?” Carlos and Jason asked at the same time.

I grinned, “yes, we capture all of the pack council members, alpha bethel and Ben himself. We could subdue them and make them sign a legal document of never making an attempt to penetrate the night howler’s pack. And then we take Ben in and serve him the punishment he deserves.”

“Damn! You are too good, alpha.” Carlos commended.

Jason nodded, looking impressed. As usual, our motherfucking Caleb only had a grunt for us.

“If we are just making picks, then we would need special equipments to help conquer them.”Caleb said.

“There are days the sizzler pack organize a general meeting with the alpha and pack council in present. Ex beta Ben has been joining them for a while. Seems like a perfect time to strike.” Jason chipped in.

I was really impressed, “how did you know all of this?”

“There Is a lady friend of mine who works in the packhouse.” He replied.

“Lady friend, uhn.” Carlos teased his friend nudging him in the elbow.

Jason mouthed, “F**k off!”

“You both can go. I and beta Caleb would work something out and definitely get back to you.” I told them.

“Thanks alpha.” The two of them chorused in sync, chuckling as they left the office.

“You should really try to get a life and stop being so rigid.” I directed at Caleb, “when last did you get f****d? You look like you could really do with it.”

Caleb sighed, leaning further into the chair. “I am so f****d, Xander.”

“That’s a good thing.” I blurted out, biting my tongue in realization.

“Do you joke about everything?” He asked, looking pissed

“I really didn’t mean it like that. It just came out. Please give me the details of it all if you wouldn’t mind.”

Watching him shift uncomfortably in his chair, I could tell it was a hard pill for Caleb to swallow. He always appears to have his shit together, but a closer look at him tells a different story. Sometimes I wonder if my case had been different with Sonia and Edwina, would I have experienced this sort of problem too?

“I don’t think I really love Ramona.” He announced.

“Oh hell you don’t.” I hit the table in a bit too dramatic form.

“I’m being serious here, Xander.”

Caleb hardly calls me my name. It’s obvious he doesn’t need an alpha now but a friend.

“When did you realize this?”

“After some number of f***s, maybe I was only lusting over her and was never actually in love.”

“Truth be told, I never thought you were.”

“Was I that obvious?”

“It was more about your ego, Caleb and I think I’m just as guilty too of such thing. You couldn’t ignore the fact that she didn’t want you, but needed to gloat to her about it when you eventually became the beta.”

Caleb stayed quiet, placing his head on the table. “How the hell do I fix this?”

“By taking your time. Let time tell.” I advised, trying to follow my own philosophy. Hoping it actually works out as time plays out.

“I’m so f****d!” He lamented.

I nodded in agreement, “yes you are.”
