Chapter 98

°°Later that night °°

Beth sat all alone in her room on her bed. Baby Sam was sleeping peacefully in his Cot. She had just finished breastfeeding him and lures him into sleep with sweet lullabies.

She was in deep thoughts about the things that happened earlier that day like her wound drying up by itself without any treatment.

She has been disturbed greatly. She asked herself so many questions but there was no one to give answers to them.

Baby Sam made some noises and she rushed to his cot and saw him sucking his lips. She realized he wasn’t deep in his sleep yet and had to pet him some more.

She caressed his back gently for some minutes and went back to her bed after making sure he was sleeping peacefully.

Her thought drifted to Asher for a moment and wondered if he was okay and wishes for him to be back already.

Her cravings for him was getting worst by the day as she pulled a pillow with his scent into her chest tightly. A mental picture of the last moment they had shared together still stuck in her head.

“Am i going crazy? Why do i miss and crave for Asher’s presence this bad. What is wrong with me?” Beth thought confusingly, groaning into the pillow.

She stood up from the bed after a while feeling restless and sat in front of the medium-sized mirror attached to the wall.

She stared at her reflection in the mirror and began asking herself questions.

“What is happening to you Beth? Why are strange things happening to you right now?” She asked her reflection in the mirror with clenched fist.

She swallowed hard and paused when she noticed someone strange in her mouth. Leaning closer to the mirror with her mouth open, what she saw almost made her scream but she stopped herself by covering her mouth after remembering it was already dark into the night.

“Fangs!” Her head ranged.

She saw fangs in the upper row of her teeth.

She checked herself in the mirror again but the fangs disappeared.

“Am probably going insane” she told herself and checked again but it wasn’t there.

“What the hell is happening?” Her mind screamed.

Suddenly, Alex came in without knocking startling Beth.

“You know it’s dangerous to keep your door opened at this time. I have told you times without number to always lock your door at night.” Alex scolded closing the behind him.

Beth kept mute.

Alex noticed how unsettled she looked.

“Beth, I was even thinking you were asleep already. What are you doing in front of a mirror?”

“Nothing,I was…just…just checking something” Beth said faking a smile. She stood up and went back to her bed.

Alex arched a brow at how riled up she sound.

“Beth, I know you are hiding something from me. You’ve been behaving strangely, your behavior earlier today confirmed that something is wrong with you. I thought we are friends Beth, why are you keeping things from me?” Alex said sounding hurt and Beth almost got tempted to spill everything but held back

“What? I’m not hiding anything from you Alex, I am perfectly fine. I’m tired and also have this mood swings sometimes you know?”

Alex nodded, eyeing her still.

“Are you sure there are just mood swings? I mean, you know you can trust me right? ” Alex said and Elizabeth gulped so hard.

“Yes, I know, Alex. It’s really nothing, I promise” She covered up with a smile.

“okay then. Maybe I’m just imagining things”

“How is baby Sam doing, Is he sleeping yet?” Alex asked moving to Sam’s cot.

“He slept off few minutes ago.” Beth said.

Alex continued staring at Baby Sam who was still sleeping peacefully in his, he looks innocent and cute.

Beth suddenly thought of telling Alex to call Asher so she could speak with him but she countered the idea immediately.

She thinks it would make Asher come to a conclusion that she misses him badly and she was not about to sound desperate either.

But she badly wants to speak with him, she doesn’t just understand the sudden crave for Asher’s presence.

“Alex, can you please allow me to speak with Asher?”

Beth bit her lips after making the request, she just couldn’t control herself so she blurted out before she could even get a grip on herself.

Alex was surprised by her request but still went ahead to give her a positive nod.

“Okay, you can.”

Alex brought out his phone and dialed Asher’s line and it ranged almost immediately. Beth face lit up, as she eagerly wait to hear his voice.

Unfortunately, Asher didn’t pick even after the third ring. Alex dialed his line again just to be certain but got the same result.

Beth face fell immediately in realization.

“Maybe he is busy or not available to pick his call because Asher doesn’t ignore my calls for no reason.” Alex said trying to convince her and she nodded, staring at the floor.

“Do you maybe have any message for him so I can deliver it once he calls back?” Alex asked and Beth shook her head negatively.

“Okay, I think I would leave you to sleep. Goodnight!” Alex said and left.

Beth laid in bed that night but couldn’t sleep. Thought of Asher still lingers in her mind as she wonder what he was doing at the moment or actually with.

“He should have picked his call. I just wanted to maybe hear his voice and nothing else” Beth cried out kicking her legs.

She suddenly remembered the k**s between her and Asher right before he left and let out a whimper with her emotion skyrocketing over the roof.

“I think I might go crazy at this rate. Why do I miss him so much?” She asked no one in particular.

She tried to sleep to see if the weird feelings and cravings would stop but it worsened.

She began feeling sick all of a sudden as she rolled from one side of the bed to she other unable to lay still.

Tears slipped out of her eyes and she began running a high temperature. She kicked the duvet away from the bed as the sickness worsened.

She felt weak and sticky all at the same time.

“Something is really wrong with me.” She thought and in no time, her whole body start to shake uncontrollably.

The little infant sleeping by the side must have felt the tension had began to cry as well but she didn’t have the strength to stand and attend to him.

She heard a knock at the door but had no single strength to check who was at the door either. She was just rolled up into a bed against the bed.

“Are you asleep already Beth? What’s wrong with baby Sam?”

Beth recognized the voice to be Izzy’s and almost sighed in relief.

She spoke up in a weak voice.

“I can’t stand up, I don’t know what’s happening to me.” Beth spoke weakly.

“What are you saying? Are you okay in there? Is Sam fine?” Izzy asked getting worried already.

“No I am not!” Beth said with all her strength as tears start to pool in her eyes before rushing down her cheeks.

Izzy became alarmed and squeezed the door handle but it was locked.

She rushed down the hallway to get a spare key and bumped into Alex.

“What is wrong with you?” Alex asked noticing how unsettled she is and how heavily she breathed.

Izzy decides to inform Alex about Beth’s condition since he was the one assigned to look after her.

“I think Beth is not okay, she was speaking weakly and couldn’t even get herself to open the door. I don’t think she is okay and her Baby is also crying, I don’t know what might be happening in the room.” Izzy rushed her explanation and Alex widened his eyes in shock.

He just left her room almost an hour ago and she seem okay though he noticed she was behaving strange but he didn’t think it to be anything bad.

Alex rushed to Beth’s room while Izzy continued to rush down the hall. Alex forcefully pulled at the door and rushed in to find her shaking on the floor.

Alex rushed over to her side and gathered her into his arm and gasped when he felt her temperature burning really high.

“What the hell happened to you, Elizabeth.”

He noticed her mouth came apart but no word made it out and he carried her off the floor and into his arms before placing her back on the bed.

Izzy rushed back in and went straight to get the crying baby while Alex continued to hover over Beth on the bed.

“What happened? Why didn’t you tell me you were feeling sick?” Alex asked and Beth mumbled out some words he couldn’t understand.
