°° Somewhere in the city °°

Asher is seated at his hotel room back in the city, shirtless. Only his dark ripped jean hanging around his waist when he got a call from one of his informant and he picked up at the first ring.

“Any new updates?” Alpha Asher asked the caller.

“I’m sorry Alpha but the guy trailing Bradley lost him and right now, he seem to have disappeared.”

His jaw only clenched tightly at those words. This is the second time Bradley is escaping and it’s to feel too common to be random. Someone must be ticking him off or he won’t be a step ahead each time.

“Aside from you and the rest, who else knew we were after his tracks?” Asher asked coldly, trying to keep his anger under control.

“Just us, no one else”

“Well, that might be the truth but Bradley escaping again is already fishy. You have a mole in your mist, so f*****g fish him out or I will have your heads. Am I clear?” He asked darkly, his fingers clenching the device in his grasp tightly.

“Yes Alpha, I assure you I will do whatever it takes to_”

Asher ended the call even before he could finish his statement, a low growl erupting his mouth as he stood staring into the dark night.

Asher was beyond frustrated at this point. It’s been weeks since he got there and still nothing to show for. The more time he waste chasing death ends, the more angry and desperate he gets.

Things were not going the way he had though. Bradley is proving to be a hard nut and might need more planning to get him.

Asher continued to pace around for a moment before he came to a pause at the foot of his bed. His mind turning with the thought of Elizabeth and his son, he wonders how both mother and child are faring and even though his Beta keep assuring him of their wellbeing, he still can’t help but feels like he should have been there.

Elizabeth truly needs him at this period. To think that he has abandoned his fatherly duties for Bradley’s head and failing to get it after several attempts makes the beast within him angry the most.

Everything he was doing is to save the life of Elizabeth and his son, Sam. Even his name sounded so foreign to his thought. He wonders if he cries at night or has someone to play with him other than Elizabeth.

Even the thought of someone else making him smile is enough to make his jaw clenched tightly in annoyance.

With each passing day, he becomes more worried about his family and then fumed about how hard it has been to get Bradley’s head.

Asher trusts Alex, his beta to do his best in protecting Beth and his son from the hands of those evil elders in his absence.

Asher regretted how he had treated Beth in the first place and despite all the ill treatment she had to endure in his hands. She is still a wonderful soul who went on to give him a son. Something he never knew was ever going to be possible after the sudden demise of his wife.

Asher suddenly thought of his brother, Jax. And even though they are not really in good terms and haven’t agreed on a lot of things, He is certain, Jax might be of great help to him at that point as he contemplate giving him a call.

After another moment of pondering, he finally typed in his number and waited for an answer as he could hear it ringing.

“If it’s isn’t my little brother, Asher. I mean, To what do I owe this pleasant surprise” Jax voice boomed through the receiver as soon as the line clicks.

“I don’t know if this is a good time but I need your help” Asher said, going straight to the point.

“Let me guess, you need my help to get the elders off your back and save your little play things? Oh, where are my manners, I heard she bore you a son. How very wonderful”

It took everything in him not to snap back at his brother’s remark as he stood grinding his teeth in annoyance.

“Listen to me, Jax” Asher snapped.

“Elizabeth is not my plaything and I don’t need you to get the elders off my case either. For once in your life, be the big brother you always claim to be and f*****g hear me out”

There was a moment of silence between both brothers before Jax spoke again, this time it seem Asher finally has his attention.

“What do you want?”

“Bradley Lincoln’s head. I need you to help me get it”

“Meet me tomorrow at the usual, don’t be late” Jax said before the call ended and Asher let out a deep breath, feeling hopeful.

°° Back At the pack °°

Beth had just finished breastfeeding baby Sam and Izzy who was seating beside her on the sofa had offered to carry him so she could rest as well.

She gladly handed him over and Izzy began to pet him, trying to make him fall sleep which was working already.

Not fewer than later, baby Sam fell into a deep sleep.

“Beth, he is asleep already,” Izzy whispered so as not to wake him up.

Beth walked with Izzy as they both lay him gently in his cot before going over to seat on the sofa.

“I have a confession to make, Izzy,” Beth said and Izzy paid rapt attention urging her to go on.

“I spoke to Alex about you having feelings for him.”

“What? Oh my God, Beth. You shouldn’t have done that.” Izzy scolded and face-palmed herself.

“Am sorry, I just wanted you to have a man in your life, or aren’t you tired of dying in silence?” Beth asked, biting down at her lower lips.

“How do I look at him in the face now?” Izzy asked shyly and Beth chuckled.

“What was his reply?” Izzy asked after a while.

Elizabeth was silent for a moment, not sure if Izzy would like to hear the absolute truth at that point.

“He said he will discuss it with you,” Beth said and Izzy squealed like a little child.

“I can’t believe I’m saying this but thank you for confessing on my behalf.” Izzy appreciated and Beth simply shook her head at the over excited girl seating before her.

The door suddenly pushed open and Alex walked into the room and both ladies became quiet.

“I’m sorry, I forgot to knock.” Alex apologized closing the door behind them before he arched a brow, his eyes darting between their faces curiously.

“Did I interrupt something?”

“No, Alex. I was just leaving” Izzy said as she stood up abruptly and made to walk towards the door, her heart starting to race at his presence.

“I will see you tomorrow, Beth”

Beth only nodded in reply as she tried so hard not to laugh at Izzy’s sudden behavior.

Alex must have noticed it too as he stared back at her with confusion in his eyes.

Izzy walked out and Alex turned to face Beth.

“That was awkward” Alex said.

“Tell me about it” Beth chuckled and Alex sighed before walking over to check on the sleeping infant who was in his cot.

He leaned over and caressed his cheek gently before moving away.

“I just came to check on you both, and I see you are all doing well so I have to get going.” Alex said staring at the door.

“Are you leaving?”

“Yeah, but I would be back later” Alex assured.

Beth noticed a glint of sadness in his eyes.

“Are you okay Alex?”

“Of course, am perfectly okay. See you around soon.” Alex said and left.

As he left out the door, Beth couldn’t help but wonder if everything is fine with Alex. He doesn’t seem like his usual self either.

**

Later that night, the weather had become cold and Beth decided to get thick clothing from the wardrobe in order to keep warm.

She walked over to the large wooden wardrobe and was about to pull the door open when she noticed some of the frame place at the top were not properly balanced and might fall off.

She was about to ignore it when she thought about Asher’s reaction if there were to fall off and crack. He’d probably blame her for it.

Standing on her tipy toe, she tried to push them further into the space above but her hands slipped and it came crashing on her instead.

She shielded herself from the crash but still earned herself a few scratches on her arm. She didn’t even feel any form of pain In her arms except the slight scratch as she stood staring at the mess she had made on the floor.

Her eyes traveled to the scratch on her arm and the unbelievable happened. She watched the small wound dry and heal close up immediately.

The thought of what had happen had caused her to screamed all of a sudden as she stumbled backward and fell to the bed.

The door burst open revealing Alex who walked in straight and knelt beside her.

“Elizabeth, what happened? why the scream?” Alex asked.

Beth only stared, wrapping her hand around where the wound had been still in shocked.

Alex noticed the mess on the floor and relaxed a bit.

“Beth, are you okay? Did you get hurt?” Alex urged getting worried at her silence.

Beth only stared at her arm again but there was no sign of any scratch.

What is her imagination or illusion? She could have swore she had a cut right across her arm even though it wasn’t there anymore.

“I’m fine, Alex”

Alex couldn’t place his hands on it but he could detected that she was hiding something.

“Stay here, I will clean the mess” Alex said and she nodded.

Elizabeth was left wondering about what had just happened. The last time she saw someone heal that way is Asher and it was because he was a freaking werewolf and last time she checked, she was just Elizabeth, a bloody human or so she thought but at that point, she isn’t sure anymore as she simply stared back at her healed arm once again.
