“It’s okay, you would be fine. I think you need to get treated immediately” Alex suggested and turned to Izzy.

“Please get the pack’s doctor for me Izzy” Alex told her and Izzy did as she was told.

Alex got more worried and wondered about the cause of her sudden sickness, there were no signs or symptoms which was really strange.

He needs to ensure her safety and well-being. He promised to keep her safe and he can’t let anything happen to her

Doctor Eva walked in with her tools while Izzy followed behind closely.

Izzy rushed to baby’s Sam cot and carried him. She began rubbing his back slowly and he stopped crying.

“What’s wrong with her?” Eva asked as she hurried over to her side.

“I don’t know, she has a high temperature but her body is shaking all over” Alex replied.

Doctor Eva faced Beth and began asking some more questions.

“When did she start feeling this way?

“Just some minutes ago,” Izzy replied in a low tone.

“Minutes ago? It’s weird. Please can you both excuse us?” Doctor Eva said to Alex and Izzy.

The duo left immediately, Izzy carried Sam along with her trying to make him fall asleep again.

Alex stood beside the door of Beth’s room. He was worried greatly about Beth’s health, he hopes Eva would be able to figure out the problem with her.

Izzy sat nearby trying to lure the baby to sleep while at the same time stealing glances at Alex.

“He won’t even look at me for once. Why do I have to fall for the wrong man? My stupid heart won’t just stop beating for him. Maybe I should learn to stop loving him because it is obvious he doesn’t like me a bit.” Izzy thought silently staring affectionately at him.

Izzy couldn’t help but wonder if he would worry about her in the same manner if she was the one lying back there. She doubt it greatly. Somehow she had come to realize that he cares a great deal about Elizabeth.

The look she had seen in their Alpha’s eyes was no different from what she was witnessing in the Beta eyes. Maybe she is wrong and was mistaking his worries for something else.

After all, She also wishes for her to be fine as well.

After some minutes which seemed like forever to Alex who hasn’t stop pacing since they were made to wait outside the door, Eva came out with her tools and he rushes to meet her.

“What’s wrong with her? Is she going to be okay?” Alex questioned and Eva only nodded at him.

“She would be fine and nothing Is wrong with her either. she just needs to rest because I can’t seem to figure out anything that’s wrong with her” Eva said and Alex looked at her surprisingly.

“Nothing at all?”

“Absolutely nothing. Her heart rate is normal and so is her vital signs so I’m guessing it’s stress hence her need to rest and hopefully I can run more test by morning”

“Okay, Can I go in and see her?” Izzy asked.

“Yes, you can, and make sure she has enough rest.”

Izzy then rushed in, leaving the two of them to talk some more but Alex turned to walk back in but Eva called him back.

“Can I see you for a moment?” Doctor Eva asked and he nodded.

“Sure!”

Doctor Eva pulled him into a corner and said to only his hearing.

“I don’t know if I should be saying his but her illness seem a little strange so you might want to get Alpha Asher to come back if possible before the next full moon”

“Are you saying her sudden illness has something to do with the Alpha being absence right now or I’m wrong to think that way”

“I don’t know Alex, just call him and as soon as he get here, we will find out the truth”

“Okay” Alex agreed with a nod and Eva walked right passed him and down the hall way.

Alex walked back after a few moment and met Beth sitting on the bed looking just fine. Izzy on the other hand was beside Sam’s cot trying to make him sleep.

Truly, she was already better in less than some minutes as compared to the state he found her in. Something was really strange, he thought within him as he walked over and stood beside her on the bed.

“How do you feel?” Alex asked sitting beside them. He felt her temperature, it calmed down already.

“I feel much better. What did Eva say is wrong with me ?” Beth asked because she noticed the odd look Eva had gave her before leaving the room earlier.

She didn’t even give her any drugs, she did absolutely nothing and still yet, she got better after a couple of minutes.

She had a hunch that Eva might know the reason for her sudden sickness but decided to keep mute which border her greatly.

“She said nothing is wrong with you and that you just need to relax your mind and rest” Alex replied.

“Did she tell you any other thing?”

“No, she did not.”

“Don’t you think is absurd?” Beth asked and Alex sighed.

“I don’t even know what to say”

“Just to go to bed and rest, I and Izzy would lure Baby Sam to sleep.” He added and Beth obeyed.

She suddenly pulled him closer into a hug and just kept holding him still.

“Thank you, Alex” she whispered into his ears.

He took a lung full of air mixed with her hair shampoo into his lungs for a moment before exhaling slowly.

“Don’t worry Beth, you are going to be okay. I promise”

“Kindly do me a favor Alex, I want you to talk to Izzy and tell her how you feel about her,” Beth said quietly before pulling away and Alex grunted but said nothing in reply her.

He helped her to lay back down before covering her with the duvet and a k**s to her head.

Izzy wondered what they whispered to each other’s ear and felt jealous at the show of affection but decided to look the other way.

It wasn’t nothing. She was sure Alex was just being nice. Nothing else.

“He isn’t sleeping yet?” Alex asked startling her out of her thought as well.

“Oh no, he has refused to sleep no matter how I tried to make him. I think he needs his mother,” Izzy replied avoiding his eyes completely.

“Elizabeth need rest, we can make him sleep without waking her up.”

“Okay” Izzy answered with a nod, not sure arguing with him at that point was a good idea. She was already being emotional on the inside and might slip if she open her mouth.

Silence ensued between the duo which Izzy has been trying to avoid.

Alex played with Baby Sam who responded with giggles. He noticed how Izzy stared at him too much and felt very uncomfortable. He doesn’t feel anything for her but it seems she does and that’s something he might have to address soon enough so she can mend her broken heart earlier.

“Izzy,” Alex called and her mind skipped.

“Yes Alex,” she answered avoiding his beautiful and charming eyes.

“I was told you have love feeling for me right?”

Izzy almost entered the ground, she felt so embarrassed and shy. She nodded slowly in reply and his jaw clenched.

She looked really hopeful and he can see it in her eyes which was why he felt bad within him, knowing whatever he was about to say to her next might break her heart and alone was enough to cause him pain.

“I’m sorry Izzy for saying this but I don’t feel the same way and I truly hope you can understand that” Alex let the word flow out of his mouth just as quietly.

“I_ I know” Izzy began with tears pooling in her eyes.

“_but i was hoping you would maybe consider it?” she let out with more tears trickling down her face. The huge pain In her chest spreading even more and forming a lump in her truth.

“I’m really sorry Izzy. I’m sorry because I know exactly how you feel. I understand how painful it is to love someone and not have them love you back but you are still young and sweet and that’s why I can only hope that you will move on with time. There are so many better guys out there that would gladly mate with you and give you all the love you deserve. I’m sorry it’s just not me” Alex poured it all out, there was no way else he could say it. It was better she knew.

Izzy wanted to scream and cry out loud but held back herself. From his speech, it’s clear to her that he was in love with someone else and if she understood correctly then she too doesn’t love him back which only prick her curiosity the more.

Who was it?

“It’s fine,” Izzy said slowly, sniffing back her tears and Alex nodded.

“Can I ask you a question though?”

“ Yes sure. Anything”

“Do I know who the woman you love is? Or am I right to think she is none other than Elizabeth Lincoln. The same one you can’t have because she is not yours to claim but only to protect”

“Keep her name out of your mouth, she has nothing to do with any of this” Alex warned firmly, his voice a bit louder than he intended.

Her tears finally fell and she wiped them off immediately.

“I thought so too”

She quietly picked herself off the floor before walking out the door without another glance at his direction and Alex could tell, nothing would ever be the same ever again.

Beth heard all that they conversed and couldn’t help but feel very sorry for Izzy. Izzy is a good woman who has always been by her side at all times, she doesn’t deserve this kind of heartbreak. She has told Beth that Alex was her first love and she hopes he is her last.

Beth felt bad, she blamed herself for being the reason why Alex couldn’t reciprocate Izzy’s love. Even though she already suspect, Beth knew Izzy would feel bad and betrayed if she finds out she was the girl Alex was in love with but she hasn’t the strength nor energy to call or go after her as she allowed herself be lured into a deep slumber.
