Her shoulders looked visibly tense with eyes completely casted to the floor as she stood before the council of elders.

Asher wasn’t far off either as he stood with a rather bored expression. No one has said a word since they both walked in, even though they were talking among themselves before they arrived.

Her eyes darted towards the elders and immediately locked eyes with elder Marcus, his eyes were as cold and dark just like she remembered as he sat watching her as though he could smell fear dripping off her.

She couldn’t place it but she had a feeling that Elder Marcus knew more than he was showing. It showed in the way his eyes moved between her and Asher before his jaw clenched even more.

She shifted her weight from one foot to the next and Asher seem to notice her discomfort before he reached over and pulled out a chair and asked her to seat on it.

“Thank you” She told him with a small smile and elder Marcus cleared his throat loudly, getting everyone else attention as well.

“Sorry for the little delay, Elizabeth. Good to know our Alpha is caring enough to offer you a chair when we couldn’t” Elder Marcus said with underlying meaning but Asher choose to ignore him.

Elizabeth who was too scared to say a word in their midst, simply settled for remaining silent. She didn’t want to say anything that would further complicate her situation.

“Elizabeth Lincoln” Elder Marcus’ voice boomed through the hall and she sat up straighter.

The way Elder Marcus looked at her had her wondering if she had committed another crime that was punishment by death but she doubt it. These folks are just the leagues of doom around her and she just happens to be their prey.

“Yes, sir?” Elizabeth answered with a quiet voice.

“I can see the Alpha has been taking really good care of you, How far gone are you?”

Her eyes furrowed in confusion, “I…uhm, I don’t understand”

“How many months is your pregnancy?” he asked once again.

Asher found this odd but he remained silent because he wanted to see where this was headed. The council of Elders had a funny way of asking strange questions and he wasn’t surprised that they asked this. If he had his way, he would send them all to hell but that was like wishing for a unicorn, it was impossible.

Only his mother, the first Luna and the Moon goddess herself could get rid of them and so far, none are available now that he might use their help and can only wait for them to return.

“Five months, sir” Elizabeth croaked and watched the older man nod.

Asher could see that she was trying to sound brave but she was failing. He could tell from how tightly her hands were clasped together. It annoys him yet he knew it was better to let them feel in control for the moment.

“I see. In the wolves life, the period of carrying a pup is half a moon year and seeing that you are almost due, you should take absolute care, Elizabeth” Elder Marcus said with a hint of warning and she agreed with a nod.

Elizabeth knew his warning couldn’t be out of care for her or the child but a way of reminding her just how close she really was to the finish line then again, she had vowed never to show any sign of weakness before them and going to let her wall crumble either.

“Yes, i will. Thank you for your concern’’ Elizabeth simply said.

She had to guard her words and the way she talked. She didn’t want to give anything away.

Elizabeth realized that staying neutral was the best bet in matters like this and if she was to carry out her plans effectively, it was best to catch them unawares.

“Good. Seeing that there is nothing else, please you can take your leave Elizabeth” The elder said after a while and Elizabeth got back on her feet and Asher was about to guide her out the door before he was stopped.

“Not you, Asher. We still have things to discuss with you if you please wait a while” Elder Marcus said, halting him completely.

“Okay” Asher agreed.

While she walked out the door, Asher turned to face the elders who were all staring back at him. It was a little creepy but he wouldn’t give them the satisfaction of knowing that they f*****g creeped him out.

“is it just me or you seem to care a little bit more about her now then you used to” one of the elders questioned with suspicion.

“I don’t know Elder, Williams. It could be that or you are starting to insinuate things just as always” Asher replied with a careless shrug.

“Are you calling me a liar?”

“I don’t have to unless you are actually one”

“That’s enough, you two” Elder Marcus barked before turning to glare at Asher.

“You swore to us to make Macy killer pay, Asher. I hope you haven’t forgotten your own promise?” He asked with a single brow raised at him.

“I made a promise to take revenge on the one that killed my wife and I don’t see how killing Elizabeth would affect that monster Lincoln. The man hasn’t even come looking since she went missing” Asher roared, his anger rising to the surface.

“I don’t think you thought of this when you declared her execution did you? You know the tradition Alpha. You know exactly what will happen if you go back on your words now” another Elder spoke calmly and Asher let out a frustrated growl.

“F*****g tell me why you all are so hell bent on executing her? She has done nothing wrong. In fact, if we were to judge this matter fairly, we are the ones who wronged her and we should be the ones trying to beg for her forgiveness’’ Asher snarled.

“Maybe you have forgotten who she is. So let me remind you” Elder William began but Asher cut him off.

“I know exactly who she is. She might be Elizabeth Lincoln but she likes to be called Beth and I can tell you, she is nothing like her f*****g father. Now maybe you all are the ones who needs to be reminded to embrace your human side a little bit more”

“You are the one who needs a reminder, Alpha. You sound weak and that means you are no longer fit to lead the people of this great pack unless you do what is required of you”

Asher took a step forward, his eyes narrowing into slit, “Are you f*****g threating me?”

At this point, Asher anger had morphed into naked rage. His wolf was threatening to break to the surface but Asher barely held it back. if he allowed it, he won’t stop until he tear through each and every beating hearts in the hall and that would mean another thing as he huffed and pushed his beast even further away.

“You have until she put to birth to decide, Alpha. Choose wisely” Elder Marcus spoke just as darkly once he was sure, it’s safe again not backing down even one bit.

Asher held his gaze for a minute more before he stalked out of the hall, slamming the door with a huge force that shook the pillars of the building altogether.
