Chapter 57

Beth POV.

It was already dark into the night and Asher was still yet to return to the room. Beth sat by the sofa wondering if the Alpha was going to avoid her forever or return eventually. Even though she wanted him gone, she still couldn’t help but crave his presence in the room. She glance at the clock and sighed before getting up on her feet before making her way over to the bed.

She crawled into bed and lay under the sheet, his scent immediately hitting her nose hard. She took a deep breath of it before exhaling slowly. She doesn’t know why but his aroma tend to calm the child within her whenever it was feeling restless.

Minutes turned into hours as she lay there awake before she closed her eyes and was lured into a sound sleep with his pillow tucked into her arms.

The next morning, She woke up and realized that Asher didn’t show up that night as the room was still the same way she last saw it last night and more so, his side of bed was still empty.

She was saddened by this and had a feeling that he was still angry with her. She sighed, dragging herself out of bed before walking towards the bathroom to ease the pressure in her bladder.

After some minutes, She walked out of the bathroom to find Asher standing there with a tired look in his eyes. He looked like he hasn’t slept a wink. Elizabeth had never been so glad to see him. She took a step towards him then paused midway.

“Asher” she said with a quiet voice and he took a step further into the room as well but not towards her and this made her even more sad.

If Asher was surprised by the look on her face then, he hid it well. He didn’t know what had changed but he couldn’t deny the fact that he saw a look of joy and a hint of guilt in her eyes when he walked past her.

When he couldn’t stand the tension any more, he let out a sigh and then turned and face her.

“Elizabeth” he said shortly and watched her turned swiftly to face him, hope evident in her eyes as she looked at him, making him a little confused on what to say to her.

“I’m sorry” She said with a sigh, and Asher arched a brow at her, wondering what she could apologizing for.

His eyes moved from her stiff shoulders and down to her clasped hands before settling back on her face. Something tells him, she still has more to say as she stood waiting for his reaction but when he said nothing, she continued.

“You were right. I never should have left without your permission. I acted without thinking and ended up putting myself in harms way and you got hurt because of me” She ended, her eyes barely looking up at his face.

“I’m sorry for ignoring you even more when you apologized. I was just frustrated” She said with a shrug and Asher quickly closed the distance between them before lifting her chin up to look him in the eyes and she reluctantly did.

“I’m sorry too. I shouldn’t have yelled at you like I did and no, it’s not your fault, Elizabeth. Keeping you here was a bad idea. Instead of locking you up, I think it’s time I make the camp a lot safer for you”

“You would really do that?”

“yes. I already talked to Alex about it and he promised to handpick someone to be your personal guard and aside from that, I would be looking out for you too”

Her eyes arched a little, not quite sure if she heard him correctly. But the look in his eyes told her he had as only eyes with honesty was staring back at her.

There was no single deceit in his eyes which just told her that everything he had just said was from his heart. He meant it.

“Thank you”

He reached over and wrapped her arms around him, taking him unaware. Asher was rigid for a second before he finally relaxed into her embrace, with a slight stink of guilt in his heart, Considering what he had done with Kara last night.

“Thank you, Asher” She said once again before pushing away from him to look back at his equally smiling face.

“So tell me, what happened last night. You didn’t come back to the room” she asked expectantly and only stared back without another word.

Asher doubt if she want to know what happened between him and Kara last night.

“Nothing happened. I just wanted time to myself to think” He said and took her by the hand, leading her towards the sofa to seat on it while he went ahead to take off his shirt then his shoes while Elizabeth stared at him hurrying around with a confused expression on her face.

She couldn’t place her hands on it but she has a feeling something else must have happened for him to stay out like that because the Asher she has come to live with always come back no matter how upset he was.

She watched him shuffle around some more before walking into the bathroom and closing the door shut.

She waited a while before moving over to the bed to grab something she intended to wear after she had her bathroom.

Few hours later, Beth was now ready to face another day and Asher even agreed to let her seat in the garden while he left someone to watch her.

At this point, she was seating in the company of Izzy as she told her about the ongoing event around the camp. It’s nice to hear about the women of the pack and what they do for fun and even wished to join them but she doubt if Asher would let her.

“you should really come watch us sometimes” Izzy offered as though she could read her mind but she shook her head slightly before relaying her thought to the younger girl.

“I doubt if Asher would allow me”

“How about you ask Alex. He won’t refuse you” Izzy suggested and Beth’s eyes narrowed at the brilliant idea.

“Oh, Izzy. You are so freaking brilliant. I mean, how come I never thought about asking Alex before. He is my friend. He can even convince Asher to say yes”

“There you go. Now I hope to see you in the next gathering”

Both girls were still talking when Beth caught sight of a certain red hair shewolf walking towards their direction. She could only wonder what she wants from her. Last time she saw her, it was back in her room wanting her death.

“Slutty Kara, I wonder what she wants now” Izzy grumbled under her breath and Beth couldn’t hold back her chuckle. Seems Izzy doesn’t like her as well.

“You don’t like her very much do you?”

“No one does. Thinks herself to be Queen Luna hence her constant slutty moves anytime she sees the Alpha but I doubt he even likes her enough to notice” Izzy hinted even further but before she could think to reply him, Kara was now standing before them, an irritated scowl plastered on her face as she looked down at both girls as though they were beneath her feet.
