After a long peaceful night resting against the soft mattress and snuggling up against a warm body at some point in the night and even talking in her dreams, Beth woke up the next morning to an empty bed.

Asher was gone but his presence still lingers on the bed. She let out a loud yawn before sliding out of bed and towards the bathroom to pee and get ready. It was still very early and Izzy is likely not to show up until later so giving herself a bath seem like something she would love to do without getting any more help unless it’s to brush out her tangles.

Grabbing the hair champion from the toiletry, she slipped into the bathtub after heating the water. Her whole body seem to hum in appreciation at the warm embrace of water against her skin as she let herself get soaked even more with a sigh.

Izzy was surprised to find her ready and just waiting around for breakfast when she arrived at the Alpha bedchamber at her usual time.

“You didn’t need my help I see” She said simply as she presented her food for the morning. A cup of warm milk and some freshly baked bread. Two fingers of banana sat by the tray as well.

“I never did before. I let you do it because Asher insisted” She replied with a little frown before pulling her tray of food closer.

“It’s fine Beth but don’t hesitate to ask for my help if you ever need it, okay?”

“Okay”

Izzy was silent again and Beth began to eat through her meal. Another minute went by before Izzy got back on her feet, getting ready to leave.

“You seem eager to leave today. Anything wrong?”

“No but my mother need my help at the field. We are harvesting some crops later”

Elizabeth was quiet for a moment, her eyes staring out the window wistfully.

“I wish I can come” She said shortly and Izzy smiled a sad one at her.

“Me too but maybe next time you can come if you ask the Alpha’s permission”

“I doubt it”

She was left alone once again after breakfast as she sat reading by the cushion. It’s surprisingly crazy how much fun she was having just reading about being pregnant. She was just two months gone and still have a lot to learn. The morning sickness and lost of appetite symptoms mentioned in the book all sounded like a myth to her.

Two hours more and the sun has risen on the outside, filtering into the room even but her face was still buried into the chunk of book in her hand when she heard a knock against the door and wondered who it could be. The door opened slightly, followed by Alex’s head poking through.

At the sight of the blond curly hair man, Beth practically leap with joy as she jumped on her feet and ran to meet him still standing awkwardly at the door.

“Alex” she chirped happily.

He acknowledged her with a nod and a small smile, “Elizabeth, glad to see you are fine?”

She responded with a nod, “yes, I’m fine” She paused and then cocked a curious brow at the larger man. “Are you looking for Asher? He is not here”

He replied with a nod. “I know he isn’t. I’m here to see you and find out if you need anything else”

“Other than the need to go outside, I think I’m fine”

Alex had a thoughtful look on his face before replying. “Well then, I guess you are in for some surprise”

“What surprise?” Beth asked with furrowed brow and Alex smiled.

“You are going to find out soon but first I need you to promise you won’t try to escape me if I take you outside for a while?”

She looked stunned for a moment before snapping out of it and gave a curt nod in reply. “Yes, I won’t run or try to escape”

“Alright then, I will wait outside while you change or something and we can go”

While Alex wait outside the door, she quickly grab her black leggings and T-shirt and threw it on before rushing out to meet Alex who was causally leaning against the corridor with arms wrapped around his chest.

“I’m ready”

“Alright, let go” Taking her by the hand, he began to lead her through the corridor and into the open.

**

Her eyes burn tearfully as they met with the brightness of the sun outside. It was truly a sunny day, the cloud blue as ever with people going about their daily duties around the pack. This is a scene that was similar to the ones she had seen in the city many times, only difference is, the people here were moving in groups and actually more organized, not hurrying off as though late for work or an important interview.

As she walked further through the camp with Alex by her side, Beth was finally able to get a better look at the location in the pack. Men, women and children, teenage boys and girls all seem busy and it was just mid day.

All she saw was face after face glaring openly at her but none tried to reach for her to say a hateful word against her. Maybe for fear of the watchful eyes walking beside her. The Beta presence by her side was enough warning to anyone not to get even close and that she was grateful for.

When they walked past a group of men sparring at the arena, Beth got curious and had to ask. “Is there going to be a war soon?”

His eyes furrowed slightly before moving to glance at the men before settling back at her. “No but our warriors are just making sure to be fit just in case we have rogues trespassing to our borders”

“Oh?” She swallowed back her next question when Alex began to move along.

Beth was more about spending her day outdoor wisely rather than focusing on some supernatural war that has nothing to do with her.

At some point, she felt like joining the ongoing harvest when they walked past a group of workers and she spotted Izzy working beside a chubby lady she immediately recognized to be her mother.

Unable to control her urge, she quickly waved at the younger girl who happily waved back before continuing in her work.

They came to a stop not far from the path leading to the tree lines and she stopped and stared longingly towards that direction but common sense told her not to even think about running in that direction so she forced her legs to keep walking.

Halting for a brief moment under the open ground, she inhaled deeply before letting it out slowly before titling her head backwards,as she welcome the touch of nature against her skin, seemingly, with her eyes clenched shut.

Beth was startled by sound of laughter with child giggling not far from where they stood and decided to check it out. Her mouth almost hit the ground when her eyes caught sight of the source of it. Asher stood shirtless and playing with a group of kids not older than five and four and it’s even crazy to think that, he was about to give three of the little ones a rid on his back across the mud.

“Unbelievable right?” Alex voice had sounded so close to her ears that she was almost startled by it.

Turning swiftly around, She let out a sharp breath, “indeed, I mean, I was just about to ask if he has a twin or something?”

Alex let out a chuckle at her comment, “You know, I think you two just need to spend some more quality time together and you will see that he is not all that bad”

This time, she could not help but scoffed at his words knowing exactly how ridiculous that sound coming from him.

“The only thing that is going to happen after spending time together is for him to come up with ways to kill me without hurting his child and i bet if he also figure out a way to kill us both, he’d do it” She said matter of fact and Alex sighed.

“I don’t know but never say never” He said with the shake of the head before she heard Asher roar out in laughter, forcing her to glance at his direction once again.

Never had she seen or heard him laugh so freely or much less be made to crawl on his knees by a bunch of kids. At the moment, he looked nothing like the monster who wanted her soul. Far from it, he could easily pass off as a normal guy with no demon waiting to be unleashed.

The Asher she is currently looking at, even reminded her of the Asher she met the first time. The same one who had warned her about street kids throwing dirty glances at her.

Pushing his thought out of her mind, her eyes wandered away from him and more to the far distance, past all the bubbling background, suddenly feeling home sick and sadden by her situation once again.

Sensing her mood change, Alex cleared his throat slightly and her eyes moved back to stare at him.

“Come on, let get you inside. You have had enough sun for today. You should get back and have some rest”

Beth agreed with a nod but before she could be led away from their position, she looked back just on time to catch a glimpse of Asher staring right at them before he was hit by a flying mud square in the face by one of the kid.

A sharp gasp escaped her mouth at the kid’s audacity. Her shocked face morphed into a surprised one pretty quickly when Asher retaliated with his own aim and soon enough, it was a complete war and scream and Asher seem to be loosing as he was pulled down pretty quickly in no time.

“Never say never” She heard Alex voice once again, prompting her to snapped her slightly parted lips shut.
