Chapter 34

Her lips parted slightly but no word made it out before she swallowed hard once again.

Did she loose the baby? She wondered with her eyes darting between Asher’s passive gaze to the lady rather calm ones.

Not sure of what to say, she decided to ask question instead, “Did I loose the baby?”

With raised brow, Asher leaned over her on the bed. “You would really love to loose it won’t you?” He said accusingly.

“What??”

He pushed himself away from her and then gave a careless shrug, “I don’t know but you sounded like you wanted to hear something in the line of ‘I’m sorry but you lost the baby’, correct?” He said rather sarcastically, causing an irritating deep growl to erupt from her mouth but before she could retort with a comeback, The lady spoke up and forcing her to swallow back whatever remark she had coming up.

“You didn’t lose the baby but I would advise that you eat well and healthy and also look after yourself and stop stressing too much because it’s not good for you or the foetus in your womb”

“And yes, babies can sense unhealthy tensions between parent so fighting is not allowed as well” Her eyes darted at Asher with a note of warning at the end of her sentence as though that statement was directed more at him than her.

Beth answered with a single nod while Asher only grumbled under his breath before walking out the door, with the nurse/ doctor following closely from behind.

The next morning, she was woken up by Izzy who showed up at her bedside with a tray of food and books to keep her company.

“Thank you Izzy but how did you know which book to bring me” Beth had asked, turning the copy of Lisa ‘healthy living habit when pregnant’ in hand.

“With your current state, it wasn’t exactly hard to know what would be right for you” she answered with a careless shrug.

Putting the book beside her bed, she began to eat her breakfast like a hungry little beast, totally not paying attention to the extra pair of eyes watching her from the doorway. Asher strolled in and stood beside her and Izzy quickly got back on her feet and made to leave.

“I have to go now, I hope you get out of here soon”

“Yeah, me too. Thank you for the food and book” Beth said with her mouth full and Izzy gave a single nod before turning to bow to her Alpha before turning to walk out the door.

Beth continued to eat her breakfast without a single word to the man now standing beside her bed. His presence was rather annoying and uncalled for. She still can’t believe he outrightly accused her of wanting the baby gone. How could he even think up things like that without feeling remorseful.

It’s true she might not want to be pregnant with a child of his but wishing it death when she also could be gotten rid of doesn’t sound very wise to her but then again, she has learnt to expect only the worst form of accusations from a man like him. If he could believe her to be guilty of a crime she didn’t commit then this too can be added to her list of offense.

Once she was done with her food, the lady she now know her name to be Eva gave her medication with a glass of water to take which she did alright but almost threw up at the last minute. She just couldn’t stand the taste of those horrible tasting pills in her mouth but had to force herself to swallow down either way with a grimace.

“Even a child could do better than that” Asher murmured under his breath but she heard him quite alright as anger quickly surge within her chest at his comment.

With hands clutching at the bedsheets by her side, she turned to look him in the face, only to lock eyes with him and in those brown hazelnut eyes of his, she could see a million words hidden in them that he wanted so bad to say to her but obviously couldn’t. Whatever was holding him back were not even her concern and she was going to tell him exactly what was in hers.

With lips turned upward and eyes blazing like fire, she sneered back at him. “Does my condition make you that uncomfortable?”

“Yes it does” He confirmed shortly.

“Well then, I guess you will just have to deal with it or you are very welcome to leave” She snapped at him.

“Sorry to break it to you but you don’t get to tell me what to do around here so, I’m afraid you are the one who will have to deal with putting up with me”

Beth could only scoffed at his words, “Why act as if you care when in reality, it will please you immensely to have me killed?” She spat back in anger and then flinched backward when Asher abruptly move closer to her, reaching for her face determinedly but paused midway, a little snarl erupting his clenched teeth.

“I may not care for you but what happens to the child you are carrying is my business, so note the difference and keep your mouth shut” He said so slowly, his words so light yet enough to make her felt short of breath.

Before she could muster up enough courage to say anything else, Asher was back on his feet and out the door, leaving her to glare right after him.

Asher was gone for only an hour before he returned and found her gazing wistfully out the window and into the near distance. She looked away from the window and back at his presence hovering around her bedside.

“Come on now, it’s to get out of here” He stated and made to carry her but she scooted away from him.

“But Eva said I have to stay two more days”

“The same Eva said, it’s okay to get you home so come on”

Beth couldn’t protest further as Asher snatched her into his arms and began to carry her away back to the direction of his room once again.

Night came rather quickly as she sat reading her new book without glancing at Asher who had just entered the room with an annoyed aura. Beth wasn’t in the least surprised,not when she is talking about someone is always in a bad mood to begin with.

Asher on the other hand stood with clenched fist, an air of anger or maybe frustration clouding his features but it wasn’t actually directed at her.

Turning away from her, he pulled off his boots before moving to settle against the bed and then turned to face her.

“Come on, we are going to bed” he said sharply before resting against the bed and Beth sighed rather loudly before moving to grab her bed to do as she was told.

“Where are you going?”

“To grab my bed, what else?”

“I didn’t say you should grab your bed and go to sleep, I said we are going to bed, Elizabeth” He said with frustration, causing her to raise a brow at him.

“Are you coming or just going to stand there all night staring at me” Asher called at her once more.

“So when you said, ‘we are’ you meant me and you on the same bed?” Her tone totally in disbelief.

“Do you see another bed? If not then yes, I mean this one. Now don’t make me repeat myself”

Her eyes narrowed in confusion and she took a step back, “No thanks but I’m fine on the flo_”

Her words were left hanging midway when his eyes found her form dangerously, and began to crawl across the bed, approaching her slowly as she continued to stare at him, unable to take another step back. Only when she realized he was probably going to grab her did she snap out of it and tried to run but Asher caught her arms and pulled her into his chest.

“I’m not going to have you risk another miscarriage by laying on that stupid bed, Elizabeth, so you either come to bed amicably or I will make you, your choice”

“Fine” She muttered unhappily under her breath before she was released from his grip and moved to climb into bed reluctantly. Once she settled into bed beside him, she made sure to put some safe distance between them before speaking up with a frown.

“Like I said before, you can call me Beth if you like. There is no point for you to sound like my mom each time I’m in trouble, you know?”

When he didn’t say anything to reply her query, she retorted to asking him question instead. “Can I call you Ash?”

“No” he answered firmly, “And for f**k sake, go to sleep, Elizabeth”

She couldn’t help but roll her eyes at the sound of her full name once again before turning to back him all the same.

“Good night, Ash” She called back with a mischievous grin on her face and heard him g***n before allowing her exhaustion to take her in spite of her troubles.
