Her lower l*p shivered uncontrollably as tears start to pool in her eyes with each quiet breath she manage to take. One unavoidable blink of the eyes and it began to trickle down her already wet cheeks like a waterfall, over and over again, clouding her already blurred vision like rain on a stormy day.

Beth was simply afraid. She was beyond just being afraid. She also dreaded the second she would feel the impact of that sharp blade across her neck and putting an end to her very existence.

Strong as she might pretend to be. She was still afraid of dying, of the cold unknown. Fear of the inevitable has finally taken hold of her heart and it was causing it to race like an untamed stallion, wild and nearly exploding within her chest.

The initial plan was to hold it together till the end. To show those group of animals condemning her to death that, she was not afraid and to die with her head held high but easily said than done.

That plan would have worked. It really would have if not for the stillness of the moment that brought untold anxiety to her soul as adrenaline spike throughout her stiff posture, making it even impossible to stand still due to how much she was trembling.

Without meaning to, her eyes flung open to behold her death coming and were truly caught by the sight of a large blade just hanging over her throat. Those same set of eager arms were frozen mid strike as another hands held onto them firmly.

A skewed sense of time went by with images of what could have being flashing through her mind as she literally collapsed to the ground, shivering even more. Her knees unable to carry her any longer.

Everything happened so fast, one minute she was letting out a scream and the next minute she was getting choked on them before she was abruptly pulled up by the female Oracle to stand beside her. A sudden development that had everyone gasping in shock.

For a moment, no one said or did anything but stared in confusion before Asher growled in annoyance and stood a step towards both women, his eyes dark and narrowing for a possible explanation.

“What is the meaning of this nonsense?” He snarled, his face contorted with rage as he continued to advance dangerously like a predator after its prey.

“I’m sorry Alpha but this can not be done. It simply can not”

Those words sounded simple yet felt like a slap to the Alpha face as his jaw muscle clenched tightly in response before speaking up once again. “I don’t give a f**k what can or can not be done Mika. I’m your Alpha and my word is authority. If I want her death? Then it means it can be done without further questioning. Now hand her over before I’m forced to feed your carcass to the dogs after am done killing you both myself”

Asher demanded and made to grab Beth by the arm but the female Oracle who is also known as Mika stood her ground as she quickly stepped in between, her movement also halting Asher in his next hasty step.

“I wasn’t speaking out of terms when I said it can’t be done Asher” She said in a surprisingly calm tone. “And I’m not questioning your authority as the Alpha of this pack either but you can not deny the will of the moon goddess simply because you want revenge. If you choose to do otherwise then you will be digging all of our graves and that of our young pubs yet unborn”

She paused for a moment, her brows slightly raised. “Is that what you truly want for your people?”

No word was said as Asher continued to hold her gaze, probably trying to spot the lies in the words she had spoken so carelessly and with so much confidence but couldn’t.

Mika knows better than to defile his orders just because she simply felt like it. If she was doing it at that point then it must be for a reason. A reason Asher has no intention of finding out if it won’t be in his favor.

“You know I speak only the truth and always will” Her voice unwavering as she continued to stare back at Asher.

Mika had being chosen by the moon goddess herself to act as a mediator between her and its worshippers even before Asher was born. Her loyalty has never being questioned before, not by Asher or the Alpha before him which is why Asher is having a hard time calling her warning bluff.

“Protecting the people of this great pack is my number one priority, which is why am wondering why the holy mother would choose to spare her and not heed to the demand of her own children” He spat, his disappointment evident as his eyes turned to glare back at Beth whose expression has shifted from scared to utter confusion.

“The holy mother hasn’t forsaken her children yet. She simply does not approved the hunter’s daughter to be killed and I believe her reasons will be revealed soon enough if we stop trying to do things our way” Mika said with firmness.

Roars of disapproval could be heard from among the crowd who are clearly not in favor of Beth getting favored by their moon goddess over their Alpha.

Asher on the other hand seem to be trying his damn hardest to keep his anger under check as he stood with clenched fist the size of a ball by his side,”What reasons does the moon goddess have for wanting her life to be spared?”

Mika was hesitant for a moment as her gaze shifted from Asher raging form and back at Beth’s surprised ones and then smiled as though she knew something they didn’t and truly she did.

“Don’t waste my time further than you already did, Mika. Why has she chosen her over what must be done. Tell me” Asher demanded, his pained voice thundering into the night impatiently.

“She is with child, Asher” She stated simply with what looked to be a smile but the look on Asher’s face told her it wasn’t a pleasant news and it was quickly erased just in the same manner it had first appeared.

Beth on the other hand could only gasp with shock as her arms quickly slipped from around her shoulders to wrap around her rather flat stomach before staring back at Asher whose eyes were naked with rage.

“What f*****g child are you talking about, Mika? Is this some sick joke or what?”

“Question me if you want but never the goddess as she is never wrong. Just because you and I can’t see it doesn’t mean she is not with child. The fact still remains that she is with child”

“Well, I don’t care whatever child she is with. I still want her death” Asher deadpan and began to drag Beth back to her initial position before forcing her back on her knees.

“Kill her and you kill one of your own Asher. And this great pack you so pride yourself on will never hear the cry of a new born pup ever again” Mika yelled at Asher before his head snapped up to send her a quick warning.

“She is not one of my own and will never be” Asher retorted back before grabbing the large blade.

“Go ahead if you must but remember this, she is carrying your own flesh and b***d which you are about to put an end to it”

The blade literally fell from his grip as he turned to glare back at Mika. “What do you mean, she is carrying my flesh and b***d?”

“The child in her womb is yours so i will advise choose carefully, Alpha because my work here is done” She said in a sing song voice then turned and began to dance away, leaving Asher to stare after her retreating steps.

While the crowd mumbled in their numbers, Asher paid no mind to them as he stood glaring at Beth before grabbing her by the arm and pulled her back on her feet.

She said nothing but stared back in shock, still trying to process the female oracle words ringing in her ears.

She is with child?

Not just any child but Asher’s child.

Can that night get any worst?.

She guess not because that was simply the height of it all.

Asher’s throaty growl pulled her out of her train of thoughts and back to reality as she peered up to stare him in the face.

“Don’t even think for a second that, that thing in your womb is going to change anything between us because your fate has already being sealed and there will be no going back. You might have won for now but I will get the last laugh” He spat bitterly before pushing her into another arms she immediately recognized to be Alex.

And for the first time in the whole of that night, Beth let out a relief sigh before she was led away from everyone else.

“Stupid filth” someone called at her from the crowd.

“The moon goddess should have just let you rot in hell and spared us the pathetic sight for sore eyes” Another called and even tried to grab hold of her arm but met with Alex snarling instead and quickly scurry away into the crowd.

Beth glanced back into the sea of faces glaring and throwing hateful comments at her, only to find Kara standing among the crowd with eyes burning like a f*****g hurricane waiting to erupt right under their noses, causing a fresh set of panic to rise in her chest.
