Beth let out a gasp at the man’s statement but her feet felt frozen to the ground and she couldn’t move to run away. He was practically blocking the exit.

He was about to grab her by the hand and dragged her forcefully outside when he was attacked from behind. Beth let out a gasp and took a step back as the man crumbled to her feet on the floor, unconscious.

“Are you hurt?” James asked as he stood staring at her.

Beth was shocked, looking at the man whom she thought was just her driver all along but after what just happened, she was certain there was more to James than what meet the eyes.

“Who are you really and who was that man that just tried to abduct me” She threw the questioned at him the moment they made it into the car and back on the high way.

“I’m your driver and I only stopped a crazy man from attacking you back at the mall” He answered simply, his eyes focused on the road.

“Cut the bullshit and tell me the damn truth. I know you are not just some driver. Asher put you to keep an eye on us didn’t he?”

“Given what just happened? You should be glad he did”

Beth couldn’t believe it. How foolish of her to think Asher would really let her go and cut off all tie with her. How very naïve of her to think that way. But after what just happened, maybe James was right. She was grateful to him still.

“Who was that man back there?”

“I don’t know but he has been following us since we left your apartment”

Her eyes widen, “And you didn’t tell me?”

“Telling you would have caused you to panic and I wouldn’t have been able to figure out who he was”

“So you used me as bait?”

“No, but attacking you in the mall only confirmed that he was after you”

Beth couldn’t imagined why some guy was trailing her or even want to kidnap her once again. She couldn’t help but think, maybe leaving the pack was the wrong decision after all.

When night came again, Beth couldn’t sleep. She was worried about the incident that happened earlier and when she couldn’t control her emotions any longer, she picked up her phone and dialed Asher’s line immediately.

After the third ring and still no answer, she got disappointed and gave up sadly and wondered what must have gone wrong. She was expecting Asher to pick her call at first ring but it seems she got disappointed.

“Maybe he doesn’t worry about me anymore, he has moved on and forgotten about me and my son right?” Beth thought with clenched fist, not willing herself to break down in tears.

She stood up and sat beside her baby’s cot. He was sleeping soundly and peacefully. She reached out a hand and stroked his hair gently. Anytime she stares at him, he reminds her of Asher a lot.

“I miss your father,” Beth stated truthfully.

“Do you think we were wrong to leave him all by himself?”

Years filled her eyes said and she held them back from spilling down her cheeks, she kissed Sam on his forehead and cheeks and decided to watch him sleep.

°°° A week later °°°

Beth dialed Asher’s line for the ninth time but got no answer.

She has been trying to reach him for days but he wasn’t picking her calls and it is driving her crazy. Ever since that man tried to abduct her, James has refused to let her out of the house, not even for a second unless he was with her. It was as if she was back in the pack house with people watching and guiding her every single steps.

She wondered if Asher really doesn’t care about her or he was deliberately not picking her calls as that thought alone was enough to hurt her badly.

Beth sat at the mini bar that night with a bottle of Scotch in hand. She had already down half of its content and has every intention to finish the whole bottle. She knows she isn’t supposed to be taking alcohol but what can she do? That is the only thing that could keep her from thinking about a certain brown hair guy who has abandoned her with his son.

Was Asher than heartless? Not once has he called to check up on her and she thought they finally had a connection. How wrong to think that way. He simply sent her away and went on with his life like nothing had happened.

“Damn you Asher and everything you are . I f*****g hate myself that I can’t stop thinking about you even though you don’t even think about me”

She sniffed back her tears and took another swing of the drink with a grimace as it burn through her throat.

“I miss them all,” Beth whispered, feeling dizzy already.

She was about to take another swing when two hands reached over and grabbed it from her grip.

“That’s enough. You are going to get yourself drunk”

Beth looked up to find her new companion standing an inch away from her. She blinked once and then twice before reaching for him but missed midway and ended up crashing towards the floor but before she could land on the floor, the same hands darted out and caught her midway before pulling her into his chest.

“Asher?” She called curiously as she struggled to focus more on his face.

“ You are drunk miss, let me take you back to your room” James replied and made to carry her but she quickly pushed him away.

“Don’t f*****g touch me” She yelled and he quickly let go of her arm in his grasp and took a step back.

“I apologize for touching you without permission. Please forgive me”

“Please, take me back. Take me back to Asher”

James looked startled by her request but said nothing to reply her.

“Will you take me back? Please take me to him, I know you can”

“I’m sorry but I can’t. I promise to keep you safe here in the city but going back? I can’t do that”

“Then it’s fine if I get drunk, just give me back my drink and let me waste myself tonight,” Beth snapped and grabbed hold of the bottle once more before struggling back on her feet and towards the stairs.
