°°° The next morning °°°

Asher has been carrying his son in his arms since he woke up. He would surely miss his son badly. The hardest decision he ever took is allowing Beth to leave with his first child staying away from him. The fact that he already sees them as his family. There was no doubt left in his heart, he would surely be lonely and unhappy all the days of his life without them.

“The driver would be here in an hour or two. Are you really this eager to go back to the city?” Asher asked, walking up to stand beside her, his eyes narrowing back at the packed bag and Beth sighed.

“Why is everyone making me feel like I don’t care about leaving them behind?” Beth asked herself silently.

“Yes I am, given how much I have spent away from where I call home” She admitted truthfully and Asher nodded.

“She really doesn’t know how it hurts leaving me behind and taking away my son.” Asher muttered under his breath.

“You talking to me?” Beth asked as she moved to the mirror to pull her hair into a bun and also do some touches on her face.

“Not at all, continue with what you’re doing.”

Beth eyed him for a moment before turning back to the mirror to finish up.

Asher smiled as he watched her fumbled with the band on her hair. His heart clenched tightly within his chest as he continued to watch her, the slight frown on her face quickly morphing to that of happiness the moment she let her hair down and flip it a few times.

“You look more beautiful letting your hair down.” Asher commented and Beth blushed heavily.

“Thanks for the compliment.”

Beth finished up within few minutes as she walked back to where he stood. Judging from the look on her face, he knew something was really up.

“You ready?”

She nodded, her hands nervously rubbing against each other.

“Asher, I think I really need to go see Alex before I leave. Since that incident, I haven’t set my eyes on Alex. I really want to see him, know how he is faring and probably bid my last goodbye as well.” Beth said and Asher sighed.

“You can go see him, Elizabeth. Your presence might do him some good but I doubt he would be happy to know you are leaving” Asher expressed and she let out a breath, knowing he was right about Alex. The thought of going to see him excite and scare her at the same time.

He watched Beth leave the room and sighed.

Beth knocked softly at Asher’s door after arriving in front of his room.

“Please come in,” Beth immediately recognized the voice to be that of Izzy’s. She pushed the door open and walked in and closed the door behind her. She saw Izzy treating Alex’s wound, he was sitting at the edge of the bed.

“Oh, thank goodness you’re here Beth. I was planning to come and meet you because I am tired of Alex’s constant rejections of food. He has refused to eat for days now which is not good for his health, I have tried to feed him but he keeps refusing to eat”

“You should come and try to feed him also maybe he might eat.” Izzy said as she took her by the hand and began to lead her towards Alex’s who sat unmoving by the window.

“Okay” She agreed with a nod and then took hold of the bowl of soup and began to walk towards him, her heart thumping quietly in her chest.

Beth felt guilty immediately just looking at his condition. The man who used to be filled with life and so much goofiness has grown so lean and pale. A complete shadow of himself as he looked so pitiful and sad.

Years filled her eyes and she couldn’t hold it back as they start to flow freely as she tagged herself the worst person earth. Blaming herself for his misfortune and pain. Alex has been so kind to her and doesn’t deserves this.

“I think I should leave you two to talk. Please excuse me.” Izzy added and left the room immediately.

Beth inch closer until she was finally standing before him, her shaky hands still grasping the bowl in her hand tightly.

He simply stared at the floor even as she moved and sat quietly beside him and cleared her throat, he did not even move an inch or act like someone had sat beside him.

“Alex?” Beth called quietly. Her voice barely a whisper.

“I know you’re probably mad at me and I can’t even tell you how sorry I am for your pain and everything but you can’t punish yourself by not eating your meal.” Beth said but Alex kept mute.

She proceeding in feeding him but he turned his face the other way. She tried to feed him once again but got the same reply and She gave up and dropped the food on the small table, she doesn’t need to force him at all.

“Alex, I know you’re hurt and you are angry at me. I am sorry, I even did worse by not coming to check on you after the fight. I was scared of your reaction, please forgive me.”

Beth got no reply, she just need to try harder.

“Your silent treatment is making me feel worse, just talk to me.” Beth begged as she fought back her tears that were threatening to fall already.

“Please Alex, I’m truly sorry that I couldn’t reciprocate your love. find a place In your heart to forgive me.” Beth said placing her hands on his shoulder but he simply stared at the her hands that had fell on his skin.

His eyes widen only a fraction and she quickly retrieved her hand before getting back on her feet, her hand going to wipe some stray tears from her cheeks.

“I just wanted to tell you that I am leaving and we might not see each other again” Beth announced and Alex let out a gasp, his eyes twitching.

“I just want to say thank you for the love, care and protection you have shown me. I really appreciate everything, Alex, you’re a lovely soul and I will forever cherish the good memories we shared. I came here mainly to bid you my last goodbye. I know you will get back to yourself soon and maybe by then you will find a place in your heart to forgive me,” Beth said and turned to head out the door almost immediately.

“Beth,” she was almost at the door when she heard her name and paused abruptly.

She turned and rushed to him, gasping in shock to find him in tears.

“Alex?” She hugged him immediately and Alex hugged her back just as tightly as he let out more tears.

“I’m sorry, Elizabeth” He cried into her shoulders as he continued to hug her still.

“I was wrong to think I could get you to love me back. I’m so sorry”

“ Shhhhh. It’s okay, Alex” Beth cooed before pulling back to peered at his face, her hand reaching out to wipe his tears while sniffing back hers.

“ I’m the one who is sorry for not loving a man as good as you are. You deserve better than me, someone who will love and appreciate you immensely”

“It’s Okay. I know it’s not me you long for and it’s crazy that I didn’t realized it until it’s too late. Forgive me?” He asked, staring at her expectantly and she nodded.

“I do Alex but I need you to promise me something”

His eyes narrowed slightly, “Anything you want”

“I need you to move on with your life after I leave. Give love a chance and I promise you won’t regret it. Can you do that at least?”.

Alex sighed before giving a curt nod and Beth leaned in for another hug.

“Be safe out there, Elizabeth”

“Thank you, Alex. I will really miss you”

He pushed back and kissed her across the cheek, causing her to smile.

She walked over to the door, looked back and met his smiling face before walking out the door completely.
