Chapter 1322 Ottilie's Duty

"He's alive. Get him to the ER stat," Ottilie instructed after examining Mike's wounds. They matched the assassin's dagger precisely.

Ambushing Mike must have been how he got inside.

Ottilie quickly debriefed Dorian over the phone.

Just listening made his blood run cold.

If not for Ottilie staying there under his orders to watch Mia, the outcome didn't bear thinking about.

"You did very well, Ottilie. I will reward you properly when I return," Dorian said gravely, "But remain vigilant until I'm back with Mrs. Crawford. Keep Mia and Aiden safe." "Understood."

After hanging up, Ottilie watched Mike whisked away for treatment.

She hurried back inside, where blood pooled crimson across the pristine white marble.

The assassin writhed below, blinded and wailing, as blood streamed from his punctured eyes.

Ottilie spared him one icy glance before ascending the stairs swiftly.

Jaxson had brought Mia and Aiden back to their rooms.

Ottilie saw outside Mia's door lingering Paul with a pale face.

"Don't worry, Paul. The threat's contained. Get some rest," Ottilie said before knocking at Mia's door.

"Who was he here to kill?" Paul asked pointedly.

Ottilie met his gaze. "Surely not us two."

Paul got the hint.

Jaxson opened up, relief flooding his face at the sight of Ottilie.

"Thank God for you today, otherwise..."

He choked up, unable to fathom Mia and Aiden harmed on his watch.

Ottilie shifted, uncomfortable with his praise. "My duty is to protect them. No need for tears now..."

Jaxson had already cried while securing them back to the room earlier.

"I'll head in." Ottilie glanced at Paul again. "Coming?"

He declined with a shake of his head.

Downstairs, the assassin had vanished, leaving the maids to scrub away the gory evidence.

"Did you see how quickly Ottilie reacted? Charged like an arrow soon as she spotted the threat."

"If not for the time she bought, Jaxson would have been too late. Those poor kids would be dead if not for her."

Paul lowered his head and walked towards his own room, and his thoughts haunted by the words of the two bodyguards.

Paul was stunned to learn the "dangerous" girl had saved them.

He shuddered, imagining his own hapless fate if caught off guard with Mia and Aiden.

Paul was silent.

The outcome was clear. They would have been dead.

While Paul stood shaken, Ottilie entered the room.

Mia rushed over, clutching her hand anxiously. "How is Mike?"

"Just some minor injuries. He'll be okay," Ottilie reassured her.

Tears brimmed in Mia's eyes.

"When will Mommy and Daddy finally come home?" She turned to Aiden. "Any word from them yet?"

Aiden had messaged them both.

But there was no reply.

His intuition sensed something bad.
