When Athena woke up, her back was so sore that she couldn't sit up straight.

"Awake, huh?"

Annie's voice, laced with a hint of coldness, sounded from across.

Athena lifted her gaze.

She saw Annie sitting with her legs crossed, calmly observing her. The gentle and generous demeanor she had displayed in the past few days was entirely gone. A gloom enveloped her.

"So, you were involved after all." Athena's hands and feet were bound, leaving her unable to move. "In my entire life, I've been kidnapped twice, both by people from the Ross family. What a twisted fate."

"Are you referring to that filthy bastard?" Annie's tone dripped with disdain. "Did he touch you? It's quite strange. I thought Byron wouldn't like a stained woman. How did he end up in this mess for you? Could this be the true love people talk about?"

"Annie, if everything goes as expected, the entire Ross family will be yours after your father's death. Why do you have to do all this?" Athena didn't take her bait. "Do you really want the Ross family to be irreconcilable with Stella Group and Imbe Group? Does the Ross family have the strength to stand against them?"

"If Heather were still alive, perhaps what you're saying could intimidate me. But things are different now. Heather is dead, and what you've mentioned holds no meaning for me." Annie shrugged slightly. "I only want to seek justice for my sister and make those who harmed her pay a heavy price."

"Weren't you and Heather on bad terms?" Athena asked.

"That was just what people like you saw. Heather was my beloved sister. This pen was a gift from her." Annie lifted her hand, revealing a pen with a broken cap. "Do you want to know how much I despise all of you?"

Athena remained silent.

Meanwhile, her mind raced, desperately trying to devise an escape plan.

"Back then, I fell in love with Byron at first sight at a party. However, that night, Heather secretly came to see me, lying by my side, excitedly telling me how handsome and outstanding that man was, and she fell for him at first sight." Annie didn't look at Athena, her gaze fixed on the pen. "Later, when she heard that the Crawford family wanted to form a business alliance for Byron, she immediately came to me, begging me to persuade Dad to send an invitation to the Crawford family. Do you know how much I wanted to fulfill all her wishes? She wanted Byron, so I negotiated and brought Byron over to give her!" Annie's expression began to change as she finished speaking.

She looked up at Athena.

"But you ruined everything. Aren't women from Mailand known for their emphasis on etiquette and integrity? Why did you entangle yourself with Byron since he had been engaged? If it weren't for your later involvement, if you hadn't been carrying his children, Heather wouldn't have met such a tragic end! You and Freya led her into an endless abyss! She's dead, and you won't escape!" Annie said through gritted teeth.

Athena stared at her, who was mad with hostility.

And then she retorted helplessly, "Since you're so clever, why can't you figure out whether I was approaching Byron or avoiding him at the time?"

Annie snorted and then raised her chin, "It doesn't matter. I'm the one who's judging you right now, and you'll be held accountable for whatever I accuse you of. Do you understand?"

As she spoke, she picked up a syringe from a plate.

"I specially prepared this for you," Annie sneered as she said, "Since we still need you as bait to lure Byron, I won't let you die immediately. You'll die in excruciating pain in seven days as your intestines rot."

Athena frowned.

At this moment, her fear wasn't about how she would die but that Byron might actually take the bait.

In the blink of an eye, Annie was already in front of her, the needle gleaming as it aimed directly at her arm.
