My Mommy Became A Billionaire After the Breakup -
Chapter 1259
Chapter 1259 Guardian to Her Children
Ottilie averted her gaze.
She couldn't help but think that Athena's two children looked so delicate and in need of protection.
"Ottilie, how are you feeling?" Athena asked from the front.
Ottilie looked at her and replied, "I think I might disappoint Martin and Mike. I can't be a regular little girl."
Athena was taken aback for a moment.
She was asking how Ottilie felt about going to school.
"A regular little girl?" She was puzzled.
"Like your daughter..." Ottilie lowered her gaze, struggling to find the right words.
She had learned many words and phrases recently, and she had read many books, but she couldn't recall any of them when she needed to.
"Soft... sweet... like a tiny sun," she described slowly and then looked up at Athena, shaking her head. "But I'm the opposite."
Athena was stunned.
After considering for a moment, she didn't rush to drive away.
Instead, she found a parking spot and stopped the car.
"Why are we stopping?" Ottilie seemed a bit confused. "Did I say something wrong?"
"No." Athena stretched lazily and massaged her shoulders. "I suddenly feel like having ice cream. Will you join me?" Ottilie was obedient. "Sure."
After a short while, Athena took Ottilie to a nearby convenience store and bought two ice cream cones.
The weather was already cold, and holding the ice cream made their palms numb.
They sat under a big tree.
After a few bites, Athena suddenly asked, "You said you and Mia are opposites. What does that mean?"
Ottilie hadn't expected to continue the conversation while eating ice cream, but she was happy to talk about it.
"It's probably not a good thing. Your husband is wary of me, and Mrs. Evie Timberlake looks at me with fear. Martin and Mike also think I'm not a regular kid." She paused for a moment. "After getting to know many people, I realized that besides my father, no one thinks I'm a regular child."
"Is that so?" Athena paused for a moment. "But who decides what kind of child is regular?"
Ottilie looked at her, somewhat surprised.
"Ottilie, if you're happy the way you are now, then just be yourself. People in this world come in all shapes and forms, and there's no template for everyone to follow. It'd be boring if everyone grew up the same way, right?"
Ever since Ottilie was young, Dorian had taught her extreme survival. She was told to never trust anyone, taking on a "kill or be killed" mentality.
No one had ever spoken to Ottilie before like how Athena did.
She studied Athena for a moment and then said sincerely, "I will protect your children."
All of a sudden, Athena felt a tinge of sadness.
She reached out to caress Ottilie's head, but Ottilie instinctively dodged.
After seeing Athena's hand hanging mid-air, she looked confused for a moment before lowering her gaze and slowly moving back, placing her head under Athena's palm.
Athena smiled and gently caressed her head. "Now, the most important thing is to finish the ice cream and do well in the entrance exam!"
"Yes!" Ottilie nodded vigorously and took a big bite of the ice cream.
It was too cold, and she made a pained expression.
Athena's teeth hurt just by watching her.
After finishing the ice cream, the two returned to the car and headed to Lakin.
They were about ten minutes late after enjoying some ice cream, and Byron was getting anxious.
Just as he was about to make a call, Athena's car arrived.
He hurried to her.
"Are you okay?"
As Athena got out of the car, he checked on her solemnly, his gaze unconsciously falling on Ottilie, who got off from the back seat. Ottilie didn't look at him and politely bowed. "Mrs. Crawford, I'm going back now."
"Okay. Study hard."
"I will."
After saying that, Ottilie walked toward the bodyguards' residence.
