My Mommy Became A Billionaire After the Breakup -
Chapter 1258
Chapter 1258 Naivety
On the way, Mia ran into many of her classmates while walking.
Some were from her own class, and others were from different classes.
Each one warmly greeted her and said their goodbyes.
A few even mustered the courage to say hello to Athena.
When they received Athena's gentle response, they couldn't help but jump for joy right there on the spot.
Once on the bus, Mia buckled her seatbelt and then turned her head to look at Ottilie.
Ottilie noticed her gaze and looked back at her.
"Want some candy?" Mia asked with a soft and sweet voice, handing Ottilie a piece of candy.
Ottilie lowered her gaze.
After some thought, she reached her hand out to accept the treat. "Thank you."
"We're on the same team, so no need to be shy!"
Athena listened and couldn't help but feel curious.
She wondered how Mia learned to speak like an adult, considering she went to school every day.
Ottilie was bewildered when Mia said they were on the same team and started to worry.
"Is it because Mia is so young, or is it because she hasn't faced many challenges in life? How could she claim that we're on the same team when we've just met? What if she runs into bad people? Could she be, as Dad used to say, the naive type who knew not how to protect themselves?" she thought.
"Yes, we're on the same team!" Ottilie said firmly, gripping the candy in her hand.
Since Mia trusted her so much, she vowed to protect her and prevent anything bad from happening to her.
Athena saw the determined expression on Ottilie's face through the rearview mirror and couldn't help feeling conflicted.
"What was going on in this child's mind, all because of a piece of candy?" she wondered.
After leaving the school gates, Mia spotted a car parked across the street right away.
"It's Byron!" she shouted to Athena.
Athena sighed. "That's your dad. Do you want to go to his car?"
"Yes!" Mia nodded enthusiastically.
Athena parked the car.
Before she could even come to a full stop, Byron had already stepped out of his car.
Athena rolled down the window.
Byron approached and gently stroked her cheek. "Is everything sorted out?"
"Almost. The exams will be in a few days," Athena replied.
Originally, Byron strongly opposed the idea of letting Ottilie get close to either Aiden or Mia, given how she was capable of cold-blooded murder at such a young age.
But one day, he witnessed her sparring with Martin and Mike, and her skills impressed him.
As Mia grew older, security became a greater concern.
Thus, it would be good if there was someone of a similar age who could accompany her to and from school, acting as a kind of personal bodyguard.
Training her from a young age would also guarantee her unwavering loyalty to his faction.
"Mia wants to go to your car. Give her a ride, and we'll meet at our place."
"Sure."
Byron leaned down to kiss Athena's forehead.
Mia covered her eyes at their intimate display.
Ottilie had yet to be introduced to Byron, so she was wary of him.
"Don't worry. He's a good person." Mia patted Ottilie's hand gently, trying to reassure her.
"A good person?" Ottilie wondered, recalling the stories she had heard about Byron.
She became even more convinced that Mia was too naive.
At that moment, Byron opened the car door on Mia's side, unbuckled her seatbelt, and lifted her out of the car.
He locked eyes with Ottilie briefly.
He didn't show much emotion and just nodded slightly, with Ottilie nodding back at him.
"Honey, drive carefully." he reminded Athena as he carried Mia into the car.
Athena hummed a response.
Mia, leaning against his shoulder, waved to her mother.
The driver on the other side opened the back door of the car.
For an instant, Ottilie caught of glimpse of another child sitting inside the car.
The child looked at Mia with a faint smile, his eyes full of affection.
