Chapter 1297:

? ? ? ? ?

But the sight of Nicole leaning against a pill, her slender figure and eyes reflecting a deep loneliness, brought him to a halt. I rolled down the window and asked, "Miss Lawrence, where are you going?"

Nicole, surprised by his presence in the waiting room, hesitated before answering, "Home."

He didn't elaborate. Nicole assumed Roscoe would leave after the brief exchange, but instead he said, "Well, let me take you, Miss Lawrence."

Nicole shook her head. “No need. “I already booked a taxi.”

Roscoe glanced at the congested streets on the screen.

"Traffic is chaos right now. It might take a while to get there."

The hospital's location, close to several schools, made rush hour particularly chaotic.

Nicole quickly checked her phone. As expected, the traffic app was showing a red stripe, and there were still over twenty minutes until her ride would arrive. She had to be at the Kingbel Club by 6:30 p.m. and Vicki had been clear. Being late was not an option.

Behind them, a car honked impatiently. Despite this, Roscoe did not move.

Feeling the pressure of time and the awkwardness of the situation, Nicole expressed her gratitude, opened the car door and climbed into the backseat. Roscoe drove off as soon as she was settled.

"Where do I drop you off?" Roscoe asked once outside the hospital.

Nicole gave him the address of the Kingbel Club.

Roscoe nodded and kept his eyes fixed on the road, respecting her privacy with his usual calm demeanor.

They traveled in silence, with only the engine making the sound. The silence was palpable when they arrived at the Kingbel Club.

Nicole got out and turned to him. “Thanks for the ride, Mr. Watts.”

“Whenever you like,” Roscoe replied, his tone polite but distant.

Watching her head towards the entrance, Roscoe's curiosity got the better of him.

I called out, "Miss Lawrence, out of curiosity, what are you doing at the club tonight?"

Seeing Nicole's stunned expression, Roscoe clarified, "He's not in a condition to drink right now and he needs to be careful with his business dealings."

Nicole realized that Roscoe had misinterpreted her intentions. He thought she was here on business. She shook her head and said frankly, “I’m not here to talk business. “I’m here to work.”

Roscoe was silent for a moment.

Thinking that she had nothing more to say, Nicole thanked her again and prepared to leave.

“Miss Lawrence.” Roscoe stopped her once more. Once Nicole stopped, he whispered, “Are you having money problems?”

Nicole shook her head and said, “No, I chose to work here myself. Thank you, Mr. Watts.”
