Chapter 1287:

“Vicki’s here?” Jarrod's glare intensified.
The maid quickly replied, “Yes, Miss Hampton is upstairs keeping Austin company. “I have come down to make him some pumpkin porridge.”
Jarrod frowned. Since Austin's arrival, Vicki hadn't been brought back.
Even though Vicki had expressed a desire to visit Austin, Jarrod seemed inexplicably unwilling.
"Who allowed him in?" Jarrod's displeasure was evident.
The maid was startled. Wasn't Vicki his fiancée? Why was Jarrod refusing her entry?
Alec quickly clarified, “Mr. Schultz, I escorted Miss Hampton here. She mentioned that she had left an earring at the villa, and upon her arrival, a peculiar circumstance arose. Austin's regular nanny suddenly fell ill. “I arranged for the nanny to be taken to the hospital, and Miss Hampton volunteered to look after him.”
Despite Alec's lengthy explanation, Jarrod's frown still did not ease.
Alec hurriedly said, “I didn't know Miss Hampton hadn't left yet…”
Before he could finish, Jarrod had already climbed the stairs to Austin's room.
The door swung open forcefully.
Just as Jarrod was about to speak, he caught sight of Vicki lying beside Austin's bed, her eyes half-closed as if she were succumbing to sleep from exhaustion. Near her was a basin of water and a cloth, while another cloth adorned Austin's forehead.
The maid following her quickly clarified: “Last night, Austin was inexplicably feverish. Miss Hampton attended him throughout the night, flatly refusing to medicate him, citing Austin's fragile constitution. Instead, she opted for physical cooling. Despite our pleas for her to rest, her concern for Austin prevailed, forcing her to remain by his side…”
Jarrod's demeanor softened upon hearing this.
Vicki seemed to wake up from the shock. She opened her eyes sleepily and looked at Jarrod, her face brightening. “Jarrod, you're back.”
Jarrod nodded before suggesting, “If you’re tired, take a break in the guest room.”
Vicki replied, “I’m not tired.” She then deftly checked Austin's temperature with her hand, demonstrating the dexterity apparently acquired from the previous night's exhaustive monitoring.
A long sigh of relief escaped her, accompanied by a joyful proclamation: "Her fever has finally gone down. I was so scared."
Vicki's concern seemed genuine. Jarrod said, "You should rest now."
At that moment, Austin woke up and, seeing Jarrod, asked, "Mr. Schultz, where is my mother?"
The way Austin addressed Jarrod struck a chord with him, instantly transforming his expression into one of intense disgust.
Vicki urgently grabbed Austin's arm and said softly, "Austin, he's your father. You can't address him as Mr. Schultz."
Austin stared at Jarrod, but refrained from addressing him as "Dad."
Ultimately, I skipped the formalities and asked directly: “Where is my mother?”
