Love Unbreakable by Bank Brook -
Chapter 1246
Chapter 1246:
? ? ? ? ?
Returning to the familiar expanse of bed they once shared, Jarrod found himself lost in thought for what seemed like an eternity.
Internally berating himself, he recognized that tonight marked the end of his emotional entanglement with Nicole. He couldn't allow her to dominate him any longer.
Having navigated the treacherous waters of the underworld and emerged victorious from countless business skirmishes, it seemed inconceivable that he still could not purge her from his mind. She, a woman devoid of compassion, was not worthy of his continued affection.
The next day, Nicole arrived at the courthouse in a striking green coat, a shade only she could pull off with such elegance.
Determined to do her best in the face of the impending trial, Nicole found solace in Rhett's reassuring words. "Miss Lawrence, please rest assured. As long as Jarrod is in distress and is complying with his treatment, he has no chance of gaining custody."
The idea of a mentally unstable parent taking care of a small child was something that no legal system would approve of.
Although partially reassured, Nicole remained wary. Jarrod awaited his next move, unaware of the ace up his sleeve, an advantage he intended to exploit to the fullest.
Glancing at his watch, Rhett broke the silence and asked, “Ready to go in?”
Nicole, agreed about to step forward, when a piercing, disdainful voice cut through the air.
“My, my, look who's dressed in green. Are you trying to brag about your affair with Jarrod?” The voice belonged unmistakably to Doreen.
Despite Nicole's intention to ignore the provocation, Doreen persisted, still seeing the disdainful look Roscoe had given her during their last meeting. Even though Jarrod had assured her that Roscoe's memory loss would lead to acceptance, why did Roscoe continue to look at Nicole with such a longing? He had never looked at her like that.
Although Nicole tried to ignore Doreen's words, her gaze inevitably fell on Roscoe, who was standing next to Doreen in a smart gray suit and a white handbag in his hand. His pensive attitude, previously directed towards her, was now washed on someone else.
A sudden memory struck Nicole. Roscoe had promised to be by her side during important events. Yet there he was, a mere spectator on the opposite side of her fight.
Nicole felt a pang of betrayal in her heart, but she knew she had no right to blame Roscoe. He was innocent, he was suffering unfair treatment because of the conflict between her and Jarrod. It was all his fault.
Nicole's anguished look clouded Roscoe's features again, a sight he had grown accustomed to over time. He couldn't understand why Nicole always looked at him with that mixture of pity and empathy, as if she pitied him for some reason.
Standing beside Roscoe, Doreen grew increasingly agitated, watching Nicole's deliberate indifference to her presence only fueled her fury. She had come to court today in search of entertainment, hoping to reveal in Nicole's discomfort.
“Nicole, I heard you ran off with Jarrod’s son,” Doreen sneered, unaware of Nicole and Roscoe’s past elopement. Jarrod had imposed a strict code of silence, and gossip was unthinkable.
Logically, Jarrod wouldn't want the woman who had left him to be with another man, so who would dare spread such rumors?
"You're quite the piece, cuckold Jarrod!" Doreen delighted in Nicole provoking Jarrod's wrath, relishing the prospect of Nicole's future misery.
Sneering, Doreen continued, “You have no shame, daring to challenge Jarrod for custody. I could have had you and your lover killed together. Consider yourself lucky that I had mercy on you. “A shameless adulteress such as yourself deserves to be torn to pieces.”
Doreen spat her words with venom, making sure Roscoe heard every damning accusation against Nicole. To her, Nicole was nothing more than a promiscuous whore who had slept with countless men.
Outside the courthouse, a place always full of conflict, many people passed by or stopped to watch.
It was not unusual for arguments to occur between lovers, so no one was really shocked.
«Nicole, if I were you, I'd play it smart by getting you on your knees and begging for forgiveness. Jarrod doesn't really like that rebellious streak you have. I'm sure he's just as rude as you are…”
