Chapter 1244:
? ? ? ? ?
Unperturbed, Jarrod's face was a mask of strategic satisfaction.
“Do you remember the last chance I offered you last time? Are you ready to give me your answer now? Are you going to withdraw the lawsuit or are you going to exhaust this last chance?”
Jarrod was convinced that Nicole, isolated and without support, would eventually give in. Without Roscoe, who was there for her? Raising a child on her own seemed like an absurd idea.
Clenching her fists, Nicole channeled the pain to quell her burning hatred. “Forget about taking Austin away from me. I won't let him become heartless and cold like you. “You don’t deserve to be a father.”
Jarrod's expression froze. He hadn't anticipated her unwavering stance. He roughly grabbed Nicole's neck. “Even if she doesn't deserve it, she's still my blood!”
“I had no choice! Do you think I would willingly give birth to your child if I had the choice? Do you think Austin would want you to be his father if he was given the chance?”
Nicole's words struck a chord in Jarrod. Unconsciously, he felt that she despised the child because it was his. Did she want a child with someone else, like Roscoe? Over his dead body.
Fury gripped Jarrod. He has gritted his teeth. “I would! Many women in Ardlens want my son. You should feel lucky. Otherwise, did you think I would tolerate your audacity?”
Nicole laughed bitterly, tears in her eyes. “You're too trusting, Jarrod.”
She continued sarcastically, “Just to give birth to your child, they have to endure being your secret lover, accepting your abuse, serving you as a maid, and putting up with your slaps… Hmph!”
He added coldly, “Ardlens doesn't have many degraded women like that! I had no choice. Meeting you is my worst luck, my karma. If I could, I wish you would ignore me, so I wouldn't have to meet you!”
Jarrod's figure faltered, suddenly taking a step back.
In an instant, he crushed the glass mercilessly in his hand, blood oozing from his palm. Tomorrow seemed unnecessary. The confrontation was here and now.
Jarrod raised his bloody hand and pointed at her accusingly. “So this is your decision? You don’t want to know anything about me?”
"Yes, that's exactly what I want," Nicole said bluntly.
Jarrod stood frozen, like an ice statue. “Good, good, good.”
After a long pause, Jarrod finally spoke. “I will grant your request, Nicole. Come to court tomorrow, and our dealings will be merciless. “I will not be soft on you again.”
Saying those words hurt Jarrod deeply. It was obvious to anyone that Nicole wanted nothing to do with him, but he couldn't understand it.
He repeatedly warned Nicole not to challenge him.
But Nicole only smiled and said, “Thank you.” Love can fade, but hate cannot. In Jarrod's presence, animosity would be rekindled.
The agony he had inflicted on her was unforgettable.
After a moment's pause, Jarrod walked away, leaving behind a chilling pool of blood.
Nicole stared at him numbly. The damage Jarrod had inflicted on her and her family was greater than this pool of blood, for it had drained her family of vitality.
Jarrod stepped out into the blinding sunlight, wishing he could snatch the sun from the sky to dull his bitterness.
