Chapter 1243:

? ? ? ? ?

Nicole's face contorted with mixed feelings of sorrow and something less than sorrow.

Jarrod watched her intently, his eyes half-closed. “Are you still mulling over your fantasy?”

His voice had a cold, mocking tone to it, revealing that he had known for some time that Roscoe had returned and lost his memory, something Jarrod had probably orchestrated. Not just probably. Surely.

Nicole felt a deep sense of sorrow. She felt like she and Roscoe were lab rats, totally at the mercy of Jarrod and the Watts family, who had power over her and Roscoe's fate, dictating life or death without her input. Despite her struggles, the outcome seemed set.

With her mind in a whirl, Nicole didn't feel like thinking about any of it.

He pointed to the door and demanded, “Outside.”

Jarrod's face changed subtly. He felt that he might have felt undue sympathy for her. Throughout the night, he had watched her restless sleep and almost allowed his resolve to soften, contemplating whether he should let her meet Austin.

However, he knew that seeing Austin might rekindle certain thoughts in her. If he let his guard down, she might take the opportunity to take Austin with her, like she had done before.

So she resolved to fight for custody of Austin at any cost. With Austin in her clutches, Nicole was like a kite tied by its string and would not waver.

When Jarrod made no move to leave, Nicole quickly threw off the sheets, removed the IV, and got out of bed, ignoring the blood on her hand.

Jarrod, frowning in disapproval, grabbed her arm. “What are you doing?” I have asked.

In a sarcastic voice, Nicole replied, “Being in the same room with you is disgusting. If you don’t leave, I will.”

Jarrod, known for his short temper, felt his words chill him even further. “So, you don't want to stay with me? Who do you want to be with?” he asked coldly. His sneer was sharp. “Your lover? Didn’t she abandon you?”

"You're behind this, right?" Nicole accused more than asked.

Jarrod's silence served as affirmation.

Jarrod was aware of a side effect of Roscoe's treatment, a detail that Miguel had hidden from Roscoe.

The treatment involved a process of cell activation that induced temporary amnesia. When mixed with specific drugs, it could lead to permanent memory loss.

Although Jarrod was unsure of the exact dosage Miguel had administered, at the time, Miguel had confidently promised him that Roscoe would forget everything about Nicole for at least a year.

This security was the reason Jarrod had been willing to let Roscoe roam free. Otherwise, Jarrod would never have tolerated Roscoe's presence.

Within a year, a lot could change. Roscoe could settle down and start a family, while Nicole, relentlessly pressured, could give up on her feelings for Roscoe. If Roscoe ever regained his memory, the pain of those memories would be immense.

Jarrod, ever vengeful, pondered how best to punish betrayal.

However, he knew that any violent retribution would only ignite fiercer rebellion in Nicole and Roscoe. Undermining their will slowly, a more subtle and insidious approach, seemed far more effective, and suited his style perfectly.

Jarrod saw Nicole's stubborn defiance as a reaction to Roscoe's persistent presence in her life. Killing Roscoe would only deepen her attachment to Roscoe, so Jarrod considered alternative strategies to break her spirit.

Without any support, Nicole would have no choice but to be obedient around him.

Watching Jarrod's quiet, confident demeanor, Nicole's contemplation for him increased. “Jarrod, you constantly find new depths of vileness. Your capacity for repulsion is unmatched,” she declared coldly.
