Let Me Love You Again -
Chapter 55
Maya
“What is that, May May?!” she shouted, suddenly making me jump.
I looked at her as she snapped standing “Lucas!” she shouted, drawing our friend’s attention, “Look what’s on her finger!”
I immediately pulled my arm out of Nate’s arm and hid my hand, scared of I don’t know what.
“Was it an engagement ring, May?!” Jess yelled again.
She terrified me even when she was excited, as she could.
“God, Jess, can you not make all this noise? Axel got scared!” said Nate, turning his back as Axel began to shake his lower l*p, ready to burst into tears.
I immediately reached out to get it but Jess yelled again, “Oh my God! It’s a ring!” She moved as fast as a panther and grabbed me, turning me to her as Axel screamed “Mama!” on the edge of tears.
Jess grabbed my hand and pulled it towards her as Lucas approached and pulled me towards him.
“God is a beautiful diamond!” my friend chirped cheerfully.
I turned my head towards my fiancé, looking for my child with my eyes but Axel had suddenly returned cheerful, in the arms of Mr. Dare who threw him in the air and filmed him, making him laugh at the top of his lungs, while Nate had been wrapped by the arms of his mother, who had begun to sob with her face hidden on his chest.
“Mom, don’t do that,” Nate said, rubbing her back.
“Is that why he asked me to keep you busy all day yesterday?” Lucas said as he looked carefully at the ring.
“My God, I didn’t think my brother had such good taste, but look at this ring, it’s fabulous and matches perfectly with the light shade of your skin, it fits you perfectly and the diamond is the right size. You haven’t been cheap, Nate!” Jess complimented as she turned my hand as if it wasn’t attached to my body.
“How did he ask you?” Lucas said, “I bet while you were bent over a table and f*****g you, that way you could never say no!” he chirped quietly.
I rolled my eyes and looked at him frowning before being dragged away by their grasp.
Nate surrounded my h**s with his arms and put his head on my shoulder as I laid my hands on his on my abdomen.
“I’m not a caveman. I asked her in the most normal way in the world and thank you for the compliments on the ring, Axel chose it”, he said, his breath tickled my skin causing me chills all over my body.
“Did you let an infant choose the engagement ring?” Jess asked upset.
Lucas put his hand on his chest, making a squeaky sound with his face upset.
“We were at the jewelry store and I put five different rings in front of him and he took one, so I bought what Axel preferred for his mother. I always ask him for permission before I do anything,” Nate replied, shrugging.
“That’s why it’s perfect,” I said, reaching out in front of me and looking at the ring.
Lucas clapped his hands cheerfully jumping from foot to foot.
“Perfect! I have a notebook full of notes for your wedding, May! I was waiting for nothing else”
I put my hand back on Nate’s and together we said, “No big wedding”.
Lucas froze, his sore eyes “You can’t do this to me May, I’ve been planning this day for a lifetime, I’ve been waiting for your yes to a man, I’ve already made everything ready!” He said with a cracking voice.
I rolled my eyes and I pulled away from Nate “No” and I said, “Use it for your wedding.”
“Do you see an engagement ring on my finger?!” he angrily said, “You can’t take it from me, May!”
“Watch me” challenged him.
“I didn’t know there was an alternative,” Jess reflected, “I wouldn’t have agreed to everything.”
“Oh, shut up! Devon, did you hear?! She won’t let me plan the wedding!” Lucas complained like a real drama queen.
I rolled my eyes again and I turned, in front of Mrs. Dare who immediately wrapped me in a hug that I happily reciprocated.
“You don’t know how happy I am for you, I never thought the day would come when he’d put his head on straight and start a family, and now look at him,” she said, pulling away from me and turning her head to Nate who had taken Axel back and lifting him up and making him laugh, his eyes shining and a huge smile painted on his lips “I have never seen him so happy, thank you,” continued Mrs. Dare.
“He makes me happy,” I answered, looking at my two men.
“May!” Jess and Lucas said, “I’ll be the maid of honor!” they continued.
I looked at them rolling my eyes.
“Don’t think about it, Lucas, it’ll be me,” Jess said, putting her hand on her belly.
“But when the wedding day comes, you’ll be bigger than a balloon and you’ll can’t even stand up!” Lucas said aggressively.
Jess made a screeching noise and brought a hand to her heart, her eyes filled with tears and her lower l*p began to tremble. In a fraction of a second, Andrew was next to her, surrounding her with his arms.
“Am I fat?” she asked with a string of her voice, looking at her husband.
“You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen, my love,” Andrew replied, kissing her on the head and fondly stroking her belly.
“But I’m still fat?! You didn’t deny it, Andrew! I won’t eat anything anymore!” a hysterical Jess said.
“My God, couldn’t you shut up?” I said to Lucas, exasperated.
“I could,” Lucas regretted, “But that doesn’t mean I’m not the maid of honor.”
“Even with 200 extra pounds, my d**k will always get hard on you,” Andrew said and kissed her gently.
“If I even know that you get hard with another, I’ll cut it off and feed it to the pigs,” Jess said aggressively, kissing it passionately and moaning.
“God, go to the bedroom, there’s a child here,” Nate complained behind my back.
I laughed and surrounded him with my arms.
*****
My mother cried, almost inconsolable, the sobbing that shook her from head to toe while my father slapped Nate on the back.
After lunch at Nate’s parents’ house, we went straight to my parents’ house. Not until I’d spoken privately to Nate’s father about the Axel issue.
Mr. Dare had been pleasantly surprised by Nate’s request regarding Axel’s paternity, but he had consented to everything and darkened himself about my fears about Brad. Mr. Dare had reassured me that he would take over the case and, in case we could not find a solution in time, he would make available all the lawyers in his firm to prevent Brad from even getting close to Axel.
After clarifying the situation, we greeted everyone. I had made an appointment with Lucas to start organizing the party for Jess while he threatened me with decide a date for the wedding. I didn’t answer and I just ran away with an excuse, but I knew I wasn’t going to make it that easy.
Lucas would have been looking for me at the end of the world for an answer.
I shook my head and looked at my mother carrying a tissue to her face and wiping her tears. We were all sitting in the living room, around the table, having had some tea and biscuits while we were telling my parents the news. I had Axel sitting on my lap, looking at my mother frowning, crying inconsolably.
My baby pushed towards the table and I helped him up. He crawled up to my mother and sat down in front of her.
“Nana,” he said, drawing her attention.
My mother looked up and looked at my child, who put his hands on her face.
“My little heart,” my mother sobbed, grabbing him and carrying him before filling him with k****s, “My little girl is getting married,” she cried again.
“Mom, I’m not a child anymore,” I complained, leaning on Nate.
“You’ll always be my baby,” my mother said as Axel laughed in her arms.
I rolled my eyes but I didn’t say anything, while Nate surrounded me with his shoulders with one arm, and together we watched our child having fun cheerfully, with an aura of serenity that I hoped all of myself would not be suddenly disturbed by someone.
