Let Me Love You Again -
Chapter 133
Nate
I was enchanted to look at my little girl in the arms of the woman of my life. Maya was sobbing in my arms as she gave little k****s on her head with some dark tufts until the nurse came up to get the baby. I watched her face off while Maya carefully passed the baby.
My eyes did not detach in the slightest from her, I watched as the nurses weighed her, measured and washed her, in the meantime the midwife was still between Maya’s legs and finished her work.
After several minutes, I got out of bed and waited for the nurse to come back with our little girl wrapped in a blanket, she had a hospital bracelet on her wrist, she had a pink hat on her head and her eyes were closed as she yawned. The nurse placed her in Maya’s arms and then tied the same bracelet to her wrist.
Maya held our baby close to her chest as she passed her nose across her face. I stood next to her as I watched her, feeling her heart pumping in her chest, only something was missing to complete our family picture, or rather someone.
The midwife stood up, taking off her b***d-stained gloves.
“Well, gentlemen, you can move them,” she said, taking the medical records, “what name shall we put?” he said to us.
“Allison Dare,” Maya and I said together.
The midwife nodded and went on to write on the chart, adding the things that the nurses had pinned on her. Maya turned to look at me, her eyes shining, as she stretched to pass Ali to me.
I took her as gently as I could. Her little head was resting on my forearm as she slept blissfully, as if she hadn’t been ripped from the safest place on this planet five minutes ago and screamed at the top of her lungs.
“She looks like you,” I told Maya by not taking her eyes off my babygirl, everything around me had completely vanished, there were only the three of us.
“She has your eyes,” Maya said, caressing my arm, I turned my head to look at her, her cheeks flushed and her eyes shining with love and happiness.
I leaned down and kissed her on the lips, light and delicate, and then I put my forehead on hers and looked into her eyes and “Thank you” whispered to her.
She shook her head and bit her lower l*p, “It wasn’t just me,” Maya said, putting her hand on Ali while I sat on the bed next to her.
“You did most of the work, I just did,” I said pointing to my crotch.
Maya laughed, “It was quite satisfying,” she said, stretching out and giving me a gentle k**s on the lips.
“I’m sorry to interrupt, but we have to move Mrs Dare to her room,” said a nurse.
“I’m going to talk to our parents,” I said, putting Ali in her arms, “And to get Axel.”
Maya leaned on the pillows as she looked at our little girl, passing a finger on her pale and soft face. I looked at them again and then, with a sigh, I got up and left the room.
I went to the waiting room, found my mother with my father, Maya’s parents, Jess, Andrew and even Lucas and Devon with all the children.
Axel was on his maternal grandmother’s lap, fiddling with one of her bracelets and waiting, quiet and diligent. I approached them and Axel’s gaze landed on me.
“Daddy!” he shouted and released from his grandmother’s embrace and then ran with his little legs towards me.
I crouched on the ground and opened my arms, letting him dive in.
“Here’s my little man,” I said, pulling myself up with him in my arms and storming him with k****s.
Axel laughed and stuck his fingers in my hair and then looked me straight in the eye, “Mom?” he asked seriously.
“Now we’ll go to Mom,” I said, kissing him on the cheek.
Holding my son in my arms, I walked over to the others who had stood up, waiting for me.
“How did it go?” Jess asked immediately as she cradled Liam.
“They’re taking them to another room, I just came to get Axel. As soon as they are settled they will let you pass,” I said cheerfully.
“How is she?” my mother asked, approaching me and kissing Axel on the cheek, who laughed and hid his face in my neck.
I looked at my mother and I felt my heart roll over in my chest, “Perfect,” I said without thinking.
I gave my mother a k**s and said goodbye. I wanted to go back to my wife and daughter. I trotted to the room that the nurses had shown me, keeping Axel laughing and telling me how his day had gone in his special language.
I listened to him and he nodded at everything he said to me as we walked down the hall. We reached Maya’s room and I opened immediately, trying to make as little noise as possible, I knew Ali was with her.
As soon as she opened the door, Maya looked up from Ali and, as soon as she saw me, she smiled brightly.
“Mommy!” Axel shouted, moving from my embrace and trying to get down.
I made great strides to the bed after closing the door behind me. Maya moved slightly to the bed, making room for me while I sat down, putting Axel standing on the bed that stretched out, grabbed his mother’s face and printed a sound k**s on her lips.
“Shhhh, be quiet,” Maya said, seeing her recklessness.
Axel frowned and then looked at the child in Maya’s arms.
“Your little sister Axel,” I said, putting my hand through his blond hair.
Axel looked carefully at his younger sister, and then sat on Maya’s legs, not looking away from Ali.
“Her name is Alison,” Maya said, moving her hair behind her ear.
Axel looked up at his mother, then went back to his sister, stood still for a moment and then stretched out, leaving a little k**s on Ali’s forehead that yawned and stretched, before opening her blue eyes and carefully watching her older brother and then bursting into a desperate cry.
Axel pulled back frightened and came to hide on my legs, standing on my thighs and holding on with his little hands behind me as he looked at Ali’s frowning forehead screaming at the top of his throat.
“She’s tazy daddy,” Axel said, shaking his head.
I laughed and gave him a k**s on the lips while Maya lowered her gown and freed a swollen breast, breast to which Ali immediately attached, eating voraciously. I was enchanted to watch as Axel frowned at them.
I kissed him on the forehead and pulled his hair back as we both watched the women have their time together. When Alison was full, she fell off her breasts and yawned again. Maya rearranged her gown while Axel sat back on her lap. I stretched out as I watched Maya come towards me, and I took Alison, having her cuddle up in my arms.
Maya hugged Axel and pulled him to herself, resting her back on the pillows while he rested his chin on her chest and looked into her eyes.
“Love you mama,” he said in a sweet voice and Maya leaned over to give him a k**s on the nose.
“I love you too, baby boy,” Maya said in a hoarse voice after all the screaming.
I smiled and then I looked at my little girl who was sleeping happily in my arms, I settled down better next to my shirt and I pulled up my legs, almost lying on the bed while watching Alison in love.
If someone had asked me what the true peace was for me, I would have described exactly that moment. Me holding my little girl, with my son and the woman in my life.
Looking at Maya, I knew what love was, what I felt for her, what filled me with joy every day when I opened my eyes and found her beside me, but as I watched Alison sleep in my arms, when I looked at Axel, only in those moments I understood what true love was, the unconditional, the pure and unique one that you know for certain that you will never be able to feel for anyone but your children. And I loved them, I loved them more than anything in the world, I would put the universe at their feet if I had to, and if I had the chance, I would do anything for them.
“What are you thinking,” Maya said next to me.
“How happy you make me every day, and how lucky I am to have you in my life,” I said passing my thumb over Alison’s soft forehead and then looking up and meeting Maya’s gray eyes.
I felt my eyes moistening as my heart continued to gallop in my chest, I don’t think she had ever stopped beating so fast since I set foot in the hospital.
Maya passed a hand on my cheek, wiping a tear that had come down slowly before approaching and giving me a slight k**s on the lips.
A light knocking on the door interrupted our moment, causing our bubble to burst immediately.
I put my forehead on Maya’s and then I rubbed my nose against hers.
“The beasts have arrived,” I said, resting on the cushions again.
Maya laughed and placed Axel on her lap, who meanwhile had snuggled up and was beginning to fall asleep.
“Come on,” I said, looking back at my little girl.
The door opened, followed by a buzz of voices, one of which belonged to my sister’s harpy but I did not take my eyes off my daughter who slept blissfully in my arms, of all the others did not interest me.
“May” heard Jess say and then approached the other side of Maya.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw how she messed Axel’s blond hair, and he fell asleep blissfully in Maya’s lap.
Next to me came my mother and Maya’s mother and I looked up at them, but their eyes were on Alison in my arms.
“She looks like Maya when she was born,” Maya’s mother said with a cracked voice.
“Not quite, she has some traits of Nate when he was born,” my mother said.
“She has Nate’s eyes,” Maya said next to me.
I turned to her and smiled at her, then I turned my eyes to Axel, who was completely gone, his arms were dangling and his breath was heavy.
I heard my mother move next to me and then I saw her pass the pacifier to Maya who immediately shoved it into Axel’s mouth, who did not get upset at all. Maya continued to caress his hair while the rest of the people took turns watching Alison.
I didn’t want to leave her, I didn’t want anyone to touch her, so I just let the others get close, not too close, to watch her sleep unaware of the attention she received.
After some time someone knocked on the door and a nurse came in, who told us that the visiting hours were over and that mom and daughter needed rest.
“The father can stay,” he said before he left.
Everyone said goodbye before they left the room on tiptoe while my mother left me Axel’s bag and left laughing and crying at the same time.
“You can sleep in the chair,” Maya said as I stood up and left Alison in the little hospital crib by the bed.
“What about Axel? He can’t sleep with you, Mon Amour, you’re tired and you need rest,” I said, turning to her.
Maya’s eyes were red and tired, and she kept holding Axel, who hadn’t moved a bit, and she didn’t seem to want to.
“Tomorrow morning I’ll be here as soon as we wake up and we’ll be here, so you won’t miss us,” I said, leaning towards her and kissing her lips before taking Axel in my arms and putting his heavy head on my shoulder.
Maya nodded and closed her eyes, without adding a word as she fell into a deep sleep. I leaned over to Alison and left her a light k**s before I grabbed my bag and quietly walked out of the house, with Axel asleep in my arms.
