The Mafia's Good Girl
The Mafia’s Good Girl – Chapter 53

~ Damon ~

“Ah, Damon,” Leo smiled and opened his arms sarcastically. “You’re just in time for the show,”

While rolling the whip in his hand, Leo walked closer to Violet and stood in front of her. He was purposefully blocking Damon’s view of her. And suddenly and without warning, Leo cracked his whip to the side. The loud thundering sound clapped and Violet flinched in response, thinking the pain was coming to get her. Damon saw how scared she was, how her clothes were torn apart, and there were clear bruised marks on her skin from that whip.

“Let her go!” Damon barked, his voice sounded even more terrifying than the whip.

“Maybe if you ask nicely we’ll give her back to you,” Leo replied tauntingly.

“Whatever problem you have with me, she’s innocent. Let her go, and we can talk man to man,” Damon said.

“Look at you still giving out orders,” Luca interjected. He was holding his gun up and aiming it at Damon, but since that wasn’t scaring him off, Luca pointed the gun at Violet. “This is our place, we make the rules,”

Damon looked uneasy when he saw the gun’s mouth pointed at Violet. Luca and Leo noticed it too.

“Alright, what do you want?” Damon asked them.

Luca and Leo exchanged a quick look.

“Well, first up, drop all your weapons,” Leo said.

Damon and his men didn’t immediately react. Even though they were outnumbered 3 to 1, they had a slight upper hand because most of the Maranzano guys were unarmed and caught off guard. They could take the risk and start a battle, but that would put Violet in danger and Damon couldn’t have that.

“I said drop your weapons or we’ll blow her fúcking brains out!” Leo’s threat thundered throughout the room. Damon lifted his hands instinctively and dropped the guns to the floor.

“Boss,” Beau said to Damon. His tone was objecting to the move.

“Drop the weapons!” Damon ordered. His tone was firm and commanding.

Damon’s men looked at each other and dropped their weapons one by one. Their faces showed uncertainty in their move, but they obeyed anyway.

“Take ‘em,” Luca ordered and his men went to grab all the weapons on the floor.

Damon and his guys were now unarmed and at risk. Meanwhile, the Maranzano guys were all armed and ready. One of the men even brought Damon’s guns to Leo. Leo dropped the whip and took the guns. Holding his enemy’s weapon in his hand, he felt powerful and triumphant.

“See? We’re unarmed,” Damon said with his hands up. “We’re not here to cause trouble. We just want her back,”

“Let’s say we give her back to you, but what’s in it for us?” Luca asked. If Leo was the brawn, Luca was the brain. It would be best for Damon to take him out first if he ever got the chance.

“You can keep me in exchange for her,” Damon replied.

“Boss,” Beau protested again.

“Killing her won’t get you anywhere. But you can do a lot more things with me,” Damon continued talking, fully ignoring Beau and his men’s disagreeing faces.

Luca and Leo exchanged another look.

“Hmm. That does sound like a fair exchange,” Leo nodded his head.

“Alright,” Luca said as he nodded to his men. “We’re men of our words. We’ll let you have her,”

Huh. Really?

Damon watched in silence as several Maranzano guys went up to Violet and cut her ropes open with knives. Her clothes were ripped and torn apart, so as soon as she was freed, the first thing she did was cover her body. Damon clenched his jaw when he noticed how the men were looking at her. If it was up to him, he’d burn this entire place down right now. But before he made sure that Violet was safe, he couldn’t do anything.

With her knees shaking and her arms covering her body, Violet made her way over to Damon. She looked so scared and traumatized, she couldn’t even look him in the eye. Damon took off his suit and walked in her direction. They met in the middle and he swiftly covered her body with his jacket.

“Are you okay?” he asked her, tilting her face up to him. “Did they hurt you?”

Violet didn’t answer right away. Her eyes were filled with so many emotions. She was so overwhelmed by everything that all she could do was burst into tears.

That’s a stupid question. They obviously did.

“Shh, it’s okay, I got you,” Damon pulled her into a hug and cooed her gently. Violet buried her head on his chest and sobbed as she clung to his back. Her entire body was shaking and Damon felt it all. His own body burned in rage and anger, like a ticking time bomb just waiting to explode.

I’ll make them pay. I’ll make them all pay.

“Aw, look at that,” Leo snickered mockingly as everyone’s eyes were on Damon and Violet. “What a lovely sight,”

Damon focused his eyes back on his surroundings. As much as he wanted to continue comforting her, this was far from over. He slowly peeled her body away and tilted her face back at him.

“Violet, I need you to get out of here,” he said. His tone was dark and serious. “Go with Beau,”

Beau instantly stepped up and nodded at Damon.

“What…?” she croaked.

“Go to the estate,” he told her. “Adrian and Talia should be back by midnight,”

“But, you—“

“Don’t worry about me,” he shook his head and wiped the tears on her face. “You need to go. Now,”

Violet knew what a dangerous place this was, but she was hesitating to leave. Despite all the things she had endured, instead of running away at the first chance she got, she was still worried for him.

What a heart this girl has.

“I’ll see you soon, I promise,” Damon said again, hoping it could convince her enough. He didn’t know if he could keep his promise, but he looked at her reassuringly and Violet seemed to believe him. She nodded meekly and took a step towards Beau.

“Stop!” Leo shouted suddenly, and Violet stopped her tracks. “No one’s going anywhere!” he roared and his guns were pointing right at her. Damon moved instinctively to cover her.

“Do you seriously think we’ll let anyone go just like that?” Luca continued, pointing his gun to Violet from another angle.

Right. That’s what I thought.

Damon and Beau stepped in to cover for Violet, but they were outnumbered. All the other Maranzano guys were also pointing their guns at her. Damon gritted his teeth and his hand reached for her. He wasn’t afraid of anything, not even death, but he was afraid this time.

“She’s innocent. She has no use being here,” Damon tried to reason with them.

“Yeah, but she’s involved with you and we know you’re not innocent,” Leo replied.

“You killed our brother in that warehouse fire,” Luca stated.

“That was an accident,” Damon said.

“That fire was no accident,” Leo scoffed and waved his guns at him. “It had your name written all over it!”

“We know it was you,” Luca added. “We’ve only been quiet because we’re waiting for the right time to strike,”

“And then we heard of your little trip to Italy and the girl you paraded in front of everyone,” Leo continued.

“You were always so careful, Damon,” Luca shook his head. “But you made it almost too easy this time,”

While the two brothers were talking, Damon slowly and carefully stepped closer to Violet. He turned his head back slightly and caught her eyes. She was looking at him with terror and fear, but his eyes told her to remain calm.

“When I say the word…” Damon was whispering lowly so that only she could hear him. “We duck,”

Violet heard him but she didn’t know what that meant. She looked at him in confusion but he couldn’t say anything else.

“How lucky were we?” Leo interjected with his loud, raspy voice. “The girl went straight into our informant’s car, and now here we are, at your funeral!”

The brothers and his men started laughing menacingly, including Sabrina who was quiet before. Damon hated people who cross him more than anything in the world. Even though Sabrina was a nobody and she couldn’t have given too much information on him, he hated it still.

“Stay with me,” Damon hissed, directing it to Violet.

“Huh?” she gaped.

“STAR!” Damon yelled as loud as he could. All the Maranzano guys only looked at him in confusion, but all his guys ducked down instantly. Damon also ducked and he pulled Violet down with him.

* BANG! * BANG! * BANG!!! *

In a matter of seconds, the rest of Damon’s men broke through the door and rained fire to the entire room. Most of the Maranzano guys were killed instantly on the spot as they didn’t see this coming. They were all easy targets too since they were all standing.

“s**t!” Leo cursed when he found out the guns he got from Damon were unloaded. Damon purposefully brought empty guns because he knew he would have to drop them.

Having no working weapon in his hand, Leo was cornered by some of Damon’s men who were ready to shoot him. Leo thought his end was coming, but out of nowhere, his brother came to his rescue.

* BANG! * BANG! *

Luca fired at the men and hit one of Damon’s guys. Beau who was ducking nearby grabbed the fallen man’s gun and fired back at Luca.

* BANG! *

“Luca!” Leo yelled for his brother who fell straight to the ground. Beau shot him right in the stomach, and he was bleeding for his life.

Leo went berserk when he saw his brother gunned down. He grabbed the gun from Luca’s hand and went straight for Beau.

“You motherfuc—“

* BANG! *

Before Leo could take his shot, Damon grabbed a gun that was lying on the floor and shot Leo right in the head. Violet gasped in shock when she saw it unfolding before her eyes. The man had a red bullet hole in the middle of his forehead and he fell back with a loud thump.

“Let’s go,” Damon said as he pulled Violet up.

Even though they were winning and outnumbering the Maranzano guys, it was still unsafe for Violet to be in the middle of the crossfire. Damon’s first priority was to get her out of there.

But as the two of them were making their way to the door, Damon spotted Sabrina taking a gun from a fallen Maranzano guy. She probably wanted to use it for her survival, but not if Damon could help it. He cócked his gun at her and she saw it. Her eyes were filled with fear and she dropped her gun immediately.

“M-master, please—”

* BANG! *

Before she could get another word out, Damon had shot her right to the head. Violet flinched and turned away, burying her face into his chest.

* BANG! * BANG! * BANG! *

The sound of gunshots filled the air like fireworks on the fourth of July. Damon put a hand over Violet’s head to cover her while slowly making his way to the door.

“Hey, you’re okay, we’ll get you out of here,” he cooed as he kept moving. His heart was beating faster and faster as they got closer and closer to the door. All he wanted was to get her out because as soon as he did, he knew she would be safe.

“…Damon!” Violet yelled suddenly.

Damon turned his head and saw Luca holding his bleeding stomach with one hand and aiming a gun with another hand.

* BANG! *

Luca fired the gun and Damon moved as fast as he could to avoid it. He also pulled Violet away and covered her with his back.

* BANG! *

Another gunshot was heard, but this time it was Beau. He was protecting his boss, taking a shot straight to Luca’s heart and killing him.

“Boss, go!” Beau told Damon to go for the door, and he kept his gun up to protect them.

Damon wanted to move, but something was holding him back. He felt something heavy and there was a stinging pain on the side of his waist.

“Fúck,” he hissed when he looked down and saw b***d.

“Damon…” Violet gaped, and her eyes were filled with horror.

“Let’s go,” he said, summoning all his strength to keep going.

With each step he took, Damon felt his body getting weaker and weaker. They were almost at the door, but he couldn’t even move. Violet ended up carrying him and his body weight. She was struggling and limping, but they finally made it out of the door.

She dragged him out to the empty street and Damon reached for a lamppost to help him stand. He thought he could do it, but he didn’t have the strength for anything anymore. The bullet was lodged in his body and he was losing a lot of b***d. Damon slumped down the lamppost and sat on the ground.

“Damon!” Violet gasped and went down with him.

“Hey, I’m here,” he said weakly. His bloody hand reached for her face and he studied her, making sure she was alright. “Are you okay?”

“I’m okay, but you’re…”

“I’m fine, this is nothing,”

Damon played it off like this wasn’t serious, but he wasn’t fooling anyone. Violet saw his b***d-drenched shirt and her eyes pooled with tears.

“Damon, you’re bleeding…” she said. “Let me call an ambulance—”

“No,” he cut her off and held her hand to stop her from leaving. “Don’t go anywhere. Stay with me,”

“But—“

“Please,”

Violet knew she should get him some help, but Damon refused to let her go. This was all that he wanted. This was why he came here. It took everything in him to hold her hand because he barely had any strength left, but that was all he wanted to do.

“Okay…” Violet nodded her head meekly and sat down next to him. “I’ll stay,”

Damon let out a sigh of relief. “Don’t ever… leave me again,” he breathed.

“I’ll never leave you,” she said, resting her head on his shoulder.

“Promise?”

“I promise,”

“Good,” he whispered through his breaths. “That’s all I want to hear,”

As the sound of gunfire continued in the background, Damon closed his eyes and felt nothing but peace, holding Violet’s hand.
