The Headmaster Alpha's Mate -
The Headmaster Alpha’s Mate Chapter 93
Faith paced the floor of the Alpha office as Luke sat on the telephone with his brow furrowed. She could feel wave after wave of concern to the point of worry coming through the mate bond. Knowing her mate as she did, he was not a man who worried easily, and so she was anxious to know what was happening and being discussed at the other end of the phone. Finally, Luke hung up the phone, and looked up at Faith.
“What is going on Luke?” she asked, unable to keep her own anxiousness from her voice.
“There is a major storm up on Eglisay, their electricity is down, the mobile phone tower is down, so there is no signal, however Alpha Douglas managed to call through on the land line. The place is a mess, Alpha Hamish is badly injured and they cannot use the small pack hospital as the one generator is used for their community centre, which is kind of the pack version of our pack house. They cannot get him off the island as it is completely cut off and the storm is not going to stop blowing till tomorrow afternoon at the earliest, and even then they are unsure if it will be calm enough to get the ferry working again.” Luke began.
“Are Zander and Chloe okay?” Faith asked, concerned about her Alpha and Luna.
“Yes, that was Zander on the phone, they are obviously stuck, but they also said they need to stay, the damage to the pack is already devastating and the storm has just begun. They are not picking up any unusual power. Zander believes it is just the weather conditions and not anything else. Chloe agrees, however, the pack is small, they have pledged alliances with us, and the nearest pack to them is the Shetland pack, who are also being hit by the storm.” Luke continued.
“Okay, so what do we do?” Faith asked.
“Chloe asked that we get a team of volunteers together, and lots of supplies, such as water, blankets, food, and medical supplies, that we pack them into the private jet and take off, landing at the closest airport to the storm without being affected by it, then wait until it is safe to fly closer, and then ship the equipment over, the ferry and fishing boats will come to meet our team as soon as the storm breaks and it is safe to travel again. She also asks that we have a second team, and get the same supplies re packed and ready to fly out once the aircraft returns, and head out to the Shetland Pack, their island has a small airport, so that we can offer them assistance as well.”
“Yes of course, but shouldn’t the council be offering relief and aid in this situation?” Faith asked, as she took notes, so that she could let Lacey and Nicki know what was happening and see if any of their packs wanted to join in with the relief mission.
“Well, yes, they should, but Douglas informed Zander, that the council have failed to offer any kind of support, good or bad, in over 11 years. They are literally left alone to fend for themselves.” Luke sighed out in frustration.
“Okay, let me get on to Lacey and Nicki. If you contact Josh and Robin, so we can co-ordinate help, I will ask Ethan if he is happy to go with the volunteers as a healer. He may well be needed by the end of this.”
“It is touch and go for Alpha Hamish, Faith, and Chloe is desperate to save him. After everything she has gone through lately, I am not sure how she will handle another blow. Zander is really concerned about her, he said, he was just getting his mate back, and this has not happened and she is once again heartbroken.” Luke sighed out.
“I wish I could go up there, but we are needed here in the pack. Maybe Cheryl would be a good option.” Faith mused outloud.
“She would, but as she is human, if the level of danger is deemed in all probability that it is considered too dangerous for humans, due to their fragility, then we need to advise her to stay here, Faith, irrespective of our desire to protect Chloe, we have a duty of care towards Cheryl.” Luke sighed.
“Agreed, okay, let’s get this aid and the teams sorted.” Faith agreed and set about her work.
“Did they say if the wind felt abnormal?” Faith asked.
“Zander stated the storm built up as you would expect from a natural occurrence, he also said neither her or Chloe felt anything odd or a power behind it. The weather up there can be unpredictable.” Luke sighed.
“I don’t know Luke, pull up the past 48 hours worth of weather reports, because from what I can remember, they were supposed to meet with Shetland today, and this is all a little too convenient, something in my gut feels this is off.”
Chloe sat in the community center beside Hamish, Douglas held on to his left hand, running his hand through his hair, tears stinging his eyes as he watched his mate, crushed, and losing b***d.
“Why is his wolf not able to start healing him?” Chloe asked Zander. She had grown to love Hamish, and she felt helpless watching him fighting for his life after one of the boulders had crushed him.
“I don’t know Luna? It could be a number of reasons.” Dr McDonald informed her as he stood starching his head at a loss as to why his Alpha was still bleeding, not even the skin begin to close. Without access to his medical provisions and equipment, he was at a loss as to what was happening internally. Although the crush injuries were serious, there was no reason why Alpha Hamish had not started to heal, by now the bleeding should have naturally been under control, and the internal healing started to take place, but it seemed that his Alpha’s wolf had suddenly gone dormant, and unable to manifest himself at all, which was what was confusing Dr McDonald.
Douglas sat, his heart breaking, he could feel his mate slipping away from him, and there was nothing he could do about it. The pack did not have any healers amongst the pack members, and he was at a loss as to what he could do to help the love of his life. Hazel stood at the foot of the bed, her little face drenched with tears. Chloe reached out to the girl. She had already lost one set of parents and here she was watching her Daddy literally dying, and sat on her lap, soothing her hand through her long hair.
“Is my Daddy going to be okay, princess?” Hazel asked, her large green eyes pleading for some good news.
“I am not sure Hazel, and I will not lie to you, but what I can tell you and promise you is that we will do everything within our power to make sure your daddy is okay, if we can.” Chloe smiled at the young girl, offering her the only reassurance she could at that point.
As loathed as Zander was to leave Chloe with Hamish, Lewis was struggling as the beta to sort out the issues that needed to be sorted, such as the allocation of food and the small amount of supplies the pack had available to them for the members who’s homes were damaged and it was too dangerous for them to remain in them, it was clear he was the best choice as Beta rather than the one most equipped to deal with emergency situations and take over from the Alpha’s. Zander began to organize the pack members, looking for those who were in shock, and setting them small tasks in order to help focus their minds on something other than what was happening around them. As he pulled out the last of the blankets they had available, passing them to the women and children, the internal land line began to ring. As Zander reached to pick up the receiver, the phone cut off. Zander let out a sigh of frustration, and returned to the blanket, as it once again began to ring. Quickly, Zander picked up the phone, before it cut off again.
“Hi, this is Faith the ambas…sorry beta female from Creasent moon pack, please may I speak with Alpha Zander.”
“Hi Faith, What’s up?” Zander answered.
“We do not have much time, Zander, but you and Chloe need to shift. The storm. The pattern does not appear normal at conception. The wind gathered around the Ullswater area, then made an unnatural path around the coast, not touching land until it hit the Orkney Islands. I think it is supernatural. If you both shift, your wolves can shake it off if it is unnatural.” Faith quickly stated as the phone line once again cut off.
Zander instantly linked up with Chloe.
“Chloe, Faith thinks that this is a supernatural-induced storm, we both need to go outside and shift.”
Chloe instantly placed Hazel down on her seat, then gave her a small job of keeping the blanket tucked around Hamish so she would think she was helping.
As they walked outside, Beta Lewis tried to stop them. His expression was shocked.
“What are you doing? You cannot go out there, it is too dangerous!” he shouted.
“Beta Lewis, we will not be long. Keep on distributing the supplies to those most in need, then to the rest.” Zander ordered, taking Chloe’s hand. They walked to the front of the community center, stripped out of their clothes, then walked out the door into the high winds, then with a nod to each other, they shifted in perfect unison.
Instantly, Sheba could feel spikes on the silver tips of her fur. She could not understand why she had not felt this during the morning run,
Caesar began to shiver, it was more than just cold, it was affecting his inner body. Immediately he began to shake his fur, Sheba following him. As they shook their fur faster and faster, the wind around the community building began to calm, almost stop completely. Seeing that it was working, they moved to where the wind was blowing, and began the whole process again, the wind calming as they shook it off.
Running around the small island, finally the wind dissipated, and calm remained. Running back to the Community centre, Chloe shifted and walked into the building, not even waiting to put on her clothes, she headed straight for Alpha Hamish.
“Any Change?” She asked
“No, sorry Luna Princess.” Dr MacDonald sighed out.
Shifting into Sheba, she stood on all fours, the pack members gasping at the vibrant purple wolf, and mind linked to Zander.
“Have them put Hamish’s hand on my fur.”
“Alpha Douglas, please can you place Hamish’s hand on Sheba’s fur, if you can hold it there please?” Zander ordered.
Instantly, Douglas agreed, even if he was unsure as to why they would request that he do that, but at this point he was running out of options, even if it did seem a little weird to him.
As Hamish touched the fur, Sheba gently began to shake her fur around him. As she built up some speed, Douglas resisted the urge to pull Hamish away for fear of her further injuring him. Suddenly, a loud clap of thunder sounded in the community center, making the pack members jump and squeal in shock.
As the thunder clapped, instantly Hamish’s wolf began to manifest himself by healing the smaller open wounds, slowly gathering strength until all the wounds on his body began to close.
“What the heck!” Douglas exclaimed.
“The storm was not a natural occurrence, it was a false storm caused by the supernatural. Chloe and I as royal wolves, could shake it off, along with any injuries that were not healing due to the nature of how the storm was made. The phonecall I received was from my beta, who has a gift of discernment. She had a gut feeling and tracked the storm. It was raised and made in the lake district, specifically around the Ullswater area, then took an unnatural path to your island. Someone somewhere did not want this meeting or the meeting with Alpha Martin and the Shetland pack to take place. Help is on its way. We have medical supplies for both here and the Shetland pack, along with emergency care kids and groups of our pack members who have volunteered to come and help you rebuild and recover from the damage.” Zander announced.
“We are flying in the supplies. I have a feeling my pack will already be well on their way. All we need to do is to head over in the fishing boats to get them back to the island.”
“Alpha, I know you have stopped the wind but the sea is still stormy, it is far too dangerous.” one of the fishermen shouted.
Chloe stood up and smiled.
“Not with me or my mate in your boat; the waves will calm, and you will have safe passage. Those who are happy to travel by boat to pick up your supplies come follow us.”
