The Headmaster Alpha's Mate -
The Headmaster Alpha’s Mate Chapter 56
Zander gathered all the students out onto the training field, as Chloe and Nicki watched over them with Delphine, Kris and Liam, to ensure they were ready should another attack come from outside.
“Students, today we saw our school, your school, face an unprecedented attack. Each of you showed bravery, courage and fortitude. We will not let this slide, and we will find those responsible. I want all of you to remain out here. You are protected, so do not fear. I am so proud to be your headmaster, and to some of you, your Alpha, you all fought bravely to protect our way of life, and for that, I thank each and every one of you. If any of you are injured, please make a group to the left of the field, where Dr Keto can examine you and Mr Kyle will help to heal you. I will, with Alpha Joshua, Beta Gavin, and Ethan, search inside the school to clean up the mess, and find any other injured students and heal them. Buses are on their way to transport each of you to your homes, or if your parents are away, back to your pack, and the school will be closed for two weeks, whilst we conduct a full investigation. Mr Dixon, you are responsible, with Mr Gibson, for collecting the names of everyone here, and checking them with the registers, to ensure we do not miss anyone. If you have personal belongings within the school that you wish to take home with you, I ask that you wait until we have made the area safe before you collect them. You all fought bravely, and I could not be prouder. Any questions?” Zander addressed his students.
A small hand went up into the air.
“Alpha, what about the interpack games? Are they cancelled?” the young pup asked.
“No, they will proceed as planned in the Crescent Moon pack, in ten days from now.” Zander smiled at the young pup, who he knew had been training hard with his sprinting for the under 10’s category.
The sound of wheels crunching on the gravel, indicated the arrival of Robin and Lacey. Cheryl sat in the back of the car, wringing her hands together, clearly concerned about her daughter.
“We set off as soon as we heard, and picked up Cheryl, sorry we did not get here in time.” Lacey sighed out, she would be glad to get back to her own pack, where she did not have to embark on a two and a half hour journey to get to school.
“Don’t worry, but you can help with the clean up, Cheryl, if you don’t mind helping Mr Dixon and Mr Gibson gather the names of the students.” Zander smiled at Nicki’s mother, knowing she needed a task to do, to take her mind off the gut wrenching fear that she had experienced.
“Thank you, Alpha. Once we have the names, I will separate the kids into their packs, ready for transport, and get you a full list of anyone who is missing. I hope none are.” Cheryl sighed.
Zander nodded and smiled, Cheryl was definitely a good replacement for Lacey in the school office.
Walking over to Chloe, he gathered her into his arms, and gently kissed her forehead, as some of the students began to whistle and cheer, making them both laugh.
“If another attack comes, please try not to shift, unless you really have to, we still have to keep your identity a secret for as long as possible.” Zander whispered to her.
Chloe nodded her understanding, then walked towards the students with Nicki to check on how they were feeling and help sort them out, as Delphine, Kris and Liam circled them to ensure they were safe if an attack came.
Zander walked through the school, searching room by room, clearing out the dead bodies of the fallen rouges, along with checking the safe rooms, and releasing the pups that had hidden there. So far, there were no casualties from the school, and the weight he carried on his shoulders felt lighter. As they reached the dining hall, Robin stood, growling at a rogue who lay on the floor, obviously seriously injured, but not yet dead.
“Josh, get the silver chain, Ethan, heal him, but not fully, we will take him to the dungeons, and gather as much information as we can from him.” Zander ordered, then proceeded to clear the area of dead rogues. In the back corner lay a pup of around 9 years of age. Zander held his breath, hoping and praying the little one had not been killed. As he approached he could see small shallow breaths coming from the little boy. “ETHAN!” he called out.
Ethan ran to his alpha’s side, and immediately crouched down, and touched the little boy, who was clinging to life. As he took the pup’s injuries into his body, he knew the child had been minutes away from succumbing to them. The last time he had healed someone this close to death, he had ended up in a coma.
“Alpha, I can only do so much, I cannot afford to slip into another coma,” Ethan declared.
“Agreed, get him as stable as you can, and we will take him to Dr Keto. Do you know who this little one is?” he asked.
“He is from the Silverback pack, one of the new starters.” Josh said, as he arrived and held the hand of the small pup from his pack.
“We need to inform his parents, and get them to Crescent Moon. We have better hospital facilities.” Zander sighed, shaking his head. So much death and destruction, and for what? Why were the rogues so focused on destroying the school and his pack? Something else had to be behind this. They never attacked in such large numbers.
Ethan stabilised the small pup, then Josh carried him out to where Dr Keto had set up his emergency field hospital.
When they had finished clearing the school, Zander linked with Kris, and told him to allow the pups with personal possessions they wished to take home with them to form a line by the entrance to each of their dorms, and send them into the school.
Robin, Lacey, Josh, Zander and Gavin each stood at the entrance to the different houses, and walked with the students as they retrieved their items.
“How are you feeling Gav?” Zander linked with his brother’s beta, knowing he had sustained a big injury himself.
“As good as new, Ethan is a miracle worker.” Gav responded, it was true he was back to full strength, within seconds of Ethan touching him.
Once they had finished, and the students were all being transported home, or to the hospital, Zander found Chloe once more.
“Hey princess, you know I had a plan for when you shifted, to go away for a week, for our mating and marking holiday. I am sorry, but I don’t think that will be possible.” Zander sighed, kissing her head. He had wanted to make the experience memorable for her, but now, with this mess, that would not be possible.
“Erm, no, you will go, you both deserve the break and the time.” Josh admonished his brother.
“Agreed, look, Robin and I will look after the pack, it is not our first rodeo.” Lacey said, her hands on her h**s and her long red hair dancing in the breeze.
“Yes, and I have an idea. We will transport the old Alpha and Luna back to Silverback for the trial, invite the council, as Josh and Nicki are the new Alpha and Luna, there is no reason for you to be present, and it will help hide my cousin from them a little longer.” Robin stated.
“They will still see her at the games,” Zander sighed.
“Let them see me. I know my natural hair will turn full purple, but as long as I keep it back in a bun, it will not be as noticeable, plus, like we have always said, I have already dyed half of it anyway. I will not shift, we can claim my wolf is still dormant, they need not know any different.” Chloe agreed.
“Yes, but then there is the problem of your birthday. Plus, we will each have the others mark.” Zander sighed.
“I am not waiting any longer, Zander. However, I agree we should stay.” Chloe said, she did not care if they did not get the week away, just that they could finally be together, and as far as she was concerned, the council could go, ‘Mate’ themselves.
“No, you are not, we all agree, can we not cover both your marks with make-up?” Nicki asked.
“Maybe, but their scents will intertwine.” Lacey said, her brows furrowed, thinking of what they could do. Both Zander and Chloe would need to be present at the games, and they needed to think of a way to make this work.
“Look, everything is prepared. Now go get packed, and go, enjoy your week off, we will watch over everything here, and whilst you are gone, we will think of something.” Lacey said.
“Yes, I agree.” Robin nodded, as did Josh and Nicky.
“How do the council know Chloe’s date of birth?” Cheryl asked.
“They have access to the school’s database,” Lacey informed her.
“So why don’t we just simply change the year, make her a year older, even have her parents send an email in the next couple of days, stating we have the year incorrect, or the month. I can say it was my fault and entered it incorrectly, they do not know about me, or when I started working at the school.” Cheryl shrugged.
Zander quickly did a calculation in his head, if Cheryl changed the date from January 16th to July 16th saying she had miss read the seven for one, that could work, as in July Chloe’s parents were fighting in the final battle.
“That would work.” Zander nodded.
“Good, now, go get your things, and leave us to run everything.” Josh said, smiling at his brother.
Zander smiled down at Chloe.
“What do you think, princess?” he asked.
“I think we should do as we are told, for once, but cut the time short, and only stay away for four days. So we can help with the preparations for the games.” Chloe smiled.
Zander nodded and kissed her on her head once more.
“Then that is what we will do, thank you guys, but we will cut the trip short.” Zander smiled.
Chloe and Nicki retrieved their things from the dorm, as Nicki gave Chloe a big smile.
“Are you nervous?” she asked, remembering her own anxiousness on her 18th birthday.
“Not at all, not to sound unromantic, I just want it over and done with so we can get on with our lives.” Chloe smiled.
“But I am excited. I just feel bad because we have to leave the pack now.” She added.
“I know, but once you two come back the pack will only benefit, and I know they will all understand.” Nicki smiled.
Picking up her mobile phone, she rang her parents, then sat on the bed.
“Chloe, is everything okay?” her mother asked.
“Yes and no, I need you to do something for me.” She asked.
“What?” her mother asked.
“I have shifted, long story, but it happened when we were attacked today. I need you to send an email to the school, stating that they have my date of birth wrong, that instead of the 16th of January, my birthday is 16th of July. Also, destroy my birth certificate, burn it. We will forge a new one and send it to you.” Chloe sighed.
“You shifted?” her mother exclaimed.
“Yes, the information you had was incorrect. I did not have to mate and mark to cause the shift, only be in danger, that is why we need the email, so that we are not put to death for breaking the age rules.” Chloe sighed.
“God, Chloe, this is so dangerous.” Her mother began to sob.
“It is fine Mum, we are keeping the shift a secret, telling people that we went to mate and mark once we realised the error on the birthdate.” Chloe said, as much as she loved her adoptive mother, she really did not want to deal with her hysterics right now.
“Okay, we will do it now, but please Chloe, be careful.” Her mother urged.
“I will be, try not to worry, this is my destiny, it always has been. I love you, but send an email now, and burn that birth certificate!” Chloe stated, then hung up the phone.
As Chloe and Nicki walked down to the cars, and packed their boxes into them, Cheryl came running out of the office.
“ALPHA I AM SO SORRY, IT IS ALL MY FAULT! I WAS JUST SORTING OUT THE FILES REGARDING THE ATTACK. I HAVE AN EMAIL FROM YOUR MATES PARENTS. I GOT HER BIRTHDATE WRONG ON THE COMPUTER, SHE WAS BORN IN JULY, NOT JANUARY! I HAVE RECTIFIED IT NOW. I AM SO VERY SORRY.!” Cheryl shouted, so that anyone could hear her ‘mistake’ to back up the story.
Chloe and Nicki rolled their lips trying not to laugh at Cheryl’s theatrics. As Zander stomped towards Chloe shouting “MINE”, playing along, lifting her into his arms, as Chloe giggled into his neck.
“Come on, we are going on our mating holiday.” Zander growled into her ear, as Chloe grinned at him, and suddenly, all the nervousness, she thought she did not have hit her stomach like a tidal wave. This time tomorrow she will be mated and marked.
