The Headmaster Alpha's Mate -
The Headmaster Alpha’s Mate Chapter 22
Chapter Twenty Two
“Chloe, how are we going to get there? It’s not like it is walking distance!” Nicki suddenly asked.
“Easy, phone a taxi, have it drop us off at the top of the lane, and walk the rest” Chloe smiled.
Feeling like it was as good of a plan as any other.
“Okay” Nicki nodded in agreement, it sounded sensible.
Although she knew Zander would be less than pleased with her actions, Chloe resigned herself to the undoubtable fact that she would at the very least receive a lecture. She had not promised him, all she had said was that she understood. What Zander needed to understand was that Chloe needed to be there, not just to make sure her mate was okay, but to see with her own eyes just how bad things could be.
“Come one, get your bags for the weekend, save another journey back” Chloe smiled at Nicki.
“If they don’t send us back for breaking their rules” Nicki shrugged.
Chloe had to admit her friend had a point, the thought of not spending the weekend with Zander made her stomach lunge even further into a pit of despair.
Gathering up their bags of clothes they had packed to spend the weekend with their mates, the girls carefully opened the dorm door. The small click of the handle as it turned felt louder than ever before, due to the nervousness of getting caught. As Chloe stuck her head around the door, she saw that the corridors were empty, and rather than the hustle and bustle of students coming and going, the school was eerily silent.
Chloe and Nicki creeped as quietly as they could down the corridor, making their way to the admin block, where Chloe walked around Lacy Blacks desk and began to search through the paperwork on it for taxi numbers.
Finally finding a small square sliver card with the image of a taxi on it, and a mobile number underneath, Chloe took out her mobile phone and rang the number.
After a couple of rings, a gruff voice answered the phone.
“Silverback Taxi’s”
Chloe stopped momentarily, Silverback, why did that sound so familiar? The knot of nervousness increased in her stomach, and she had the urge to hang up the phone immediately. Ignoring her gut feeling, thinking it was just a reaction to how worried she was about her mate, Chloe brushed the thought of danger out of her mind.
“Hi, I need a taxi at the Crescent Moon Academy ASAP please”
“Where is it going?” the gruff voice asked.
Chloe froze again, feeling stupid. She did not know the actual address or name of the road they needed to be.
“ Oh, I forgot the address, but can direct you” Chloe answered, hoping the taxi driver would still accept the booking.
“Name?” he asked
“Handcock, Chloe Handcock”
“I will be five minutes” the voice said, then the line went dead.
The taxi driver smirked, as he sat in his car, he had good news for his Alpha. Maybe all will not be lost after all.
“Alpha, I will have the Luna of Crescent Moon in my taxi in five minutes”
Zander walked onto the large field at the back of the packhouse, as the members of the Silverback Pack arrived from outside of the tree line, their Alpha following at the rear. When the Silverback pack wolves reached the edge of the field, they parted as their Alpha walked through them. He looked confident and sure of himself, a stark difference to how he carried himself just two minutes ago.
Zander was a little surprised to see Alpha Jack Aitchison approach him looking relaxed and with an air of confidence that was in stark contrast to the man he had got to know, keeping his face a stoic mask. He watched as both pack members formed a large circle, leaving Zander and Jack in the centre.
“Alpha Colton, I am giving you this one opportunity to submit to me and keep your pack.” Jack shouted out with the bravado of a man who had already won the fight.
“Alpha Aitchison, I think not. You were warned that if your daughter made any threat against my Mate, it would be an act of war. To save your pack members from harm, I have offered you this death match. However, if you would like to reconsider, and put the lives of your pack before your own, I am happy to have the packs fight each other, that is your choice”, Zander shouted back.
A low murmur echoed around the field, as the Silverback pack wolves wondered what was going on. They had not been informed they would have to fight against the infamous warriors of the Crescent Moon. They had been promised that the Alpha would bring this to an end by negotiation and, if need be, submit to Zander so that they would not face a war.
“So quick to want b***d, be careful Zander, because in five minutes I will hold in my possession something you will want more than your pack, that you will give up your Alpha status for, and hand over your pack members to me. So, this is your final chance to submit to me, keep your pack, and I will return to my land with the victory.” Jack shouted, a smug smile on his face.
Chloe placed her phone back in her pocket, then turned to Nicki.
“Five minutes, we should wait outside” She smiled, despite the growing clenching in her stomach.
“Yeah”. Nicki gave a small smile. She really did not like going against what Josh had told her, but she was concerned. If the fight did not go well, would Josh then have to intervene? How would she deal with her friend, if the worst should happen?
The girls picked up their bags and headed out the main door, and stood in silence. The only sounds were the chirping of the crickets, and the slight rustling of leaves from the evening breeze as they waited impatiently for the taxi to arrive.
The sound of tyres crunching against the gravelled driveway, alerted them to the imminent arrival of the taxi. As it approached and circled to stop in front of the girls, Chloe scooped up her bags again, and with a big breath she turned to Nicki.
“Ready?” she asked.
“As I will ever be”, Nicki responded, hoping Josh would not be too mad at her.
As the taxi pulled up outside the school, the driver got out, he stood at around 6ft two, a scar on his left cheek gave him the appearance of danger. The smug look on his face, gave Chloe the shivers, then she heard the voice that she had only ever heard in her dreams.
“Danger, it’s a trap, do not get in” Sheba shouted in Chloe’s mind.
Listening to her wolf, Chloe looked at Nicola and shook her head as she moved towards the taxi, making Nicki halt immediately.
“Sorry to bring you all the way out here, but I have changed my mind. Let me pay you for your trouble.” Chloe’s voice rang out.
Nicki looked at her friend, wondering what was happening, and why she had changed her mind.
“Oh, Luna’s trust me, you both WILL be coming with me” The driver growled out dangerously.
Nicki let out a small squeal, as Chloe gulped, she did not know how, or what she had to do, but one thing was clear, neither her or Nicki were getting in that car, then she grabbed her friend by the arm and pulled her to stand behind her, then took up the stance Zander had taught her this morning, ready to fight to protect her friend.
“Very brave Luna, or are you just stupid?” The driver said, with a chuckle, tilting his head to one side, before he swiftly moved towards Chloe, evil intent in his eyes.
As he reached out to grab the Crescent Moon pack Luna, he felt a sharp pain in his chest, as the sickening sound of a rib cracking echoed in the evening sky. Nicki watched in horror, as the Driver launched upwards, and landed on his back on top of his car.
“Run Nicki”, Chole shouted.
“No, I cannot leave you” Nicki responded.
“Nicki RUN” Chloe shouted again.
As Nicki refused to leave her friend to fight off the man alone, she may not have been able to do a lot, but she would never run away and leave a loved one in danger.
The driver shook his head, not quite believing the power of the hit he had just received, with his wolf healing already kicking in, he began pulling himself off the taxi. Anger pulsed through his veins like hot lava. He was told this girl had a dormant wolf. How could she have so much power?
Once more he stepped towards Chloe, only this time he changed the angle and managed to get hold of her arm.
With a swift turn, Chloe punched him in the jaw, feeling a sickly crack and horrific pain coming from her elbow, as her arm hung limply at her side.
The driver recovered, shaking his head, his jaw lax from the break it had received from Chloe’s powerful hit. He looked at the girl. Just who the heck was she? He questioned himself. Seeing her limp arm, he reached out to grab it once more to take full advantage of her injury, so that he could finally get the upper hand.
Chloe felt a surge of fear. How was she going to keep this man from taking her and Nicki? She had hit him twice, yet still he came back for more. She wondered what she could do next.
“ Remember your conversation with Gavin, no matter how big they all go down.” Sheba began to speak in her mind,
“With a kick in the nut sack” Chloe whispered the end of that conversation, to herself and her wolf.
As the driver approached her again, grabbing hold of her injured arm, Chloe lifted her knee as hard as she could, connecting it with his crown jewels, as the Driver slumped to the floor, a primal roar of pain coming from his mouth.
Chloe watched on frozen in horror as before her eyes the Driver shifted into his wolf form, he stood on all fours, then walked over to her, his heckles up, snarling at her, foaming at the mouth.
“s**t” Chloe whispered.
The wolf bounded towards her, when suddenly a smaller black and tan wolf jumped between her and the driver’s wolf.
“Ethan” Nicki cried out.
Zander let out a low growl. There was only one thing that could make him do anything that Jack had suggested and that was for his Mate.
“Josh, I think he has or is going to get our mates. Who do we have still at the school?” Zander mind linked his brother.
“Just the younger pups, to keep them safe, and Ethan, because he has just recently accessed his wolf” Josh answered.
“Have him check on Chloe and Nicki” Zander growled out via the mind link.
“Way ahead of you, as soon as he began talking, I told Ethan to check on the girls, but if he has sent a warrior, Ethan is no match. I cannot leave the battlefield, nor your beta.”
Zander stood glaring at the Silverback pack Alpha. He needed to end this now, and hoped Ethan could keep the girls safe until they got there.
“Less chit chat, Alpha, and more action” Zander growled out, as he stalked him in a circle waiting for an opportunity to strike. He needed this done, as quickly as possible, if he had any chance of saving his mate, his brother’s mate, and his young pack member.
