The Headmaster Alpha's Mate
The Headmaster Alpha’s Mate Chapter 119

Nicki walked out onto the training ground, the relief she felt from having her mastitis healed was almost like she was floating on a cloud. Her mood had instantly improved, and now she felt a little guilty at being so hard on Josh.

Ethan walked behind her, then looked over to Josh punching the hell out of Robin. He turned towards Chloe.

“I am keeping out of Joshua’s way for a bit.” He chuckled, then dodged over to the opposite side of the training ground.

Josh was busy taking out his frustration on Robin, who was holding his own, both Alpha’s bloody and bruised. The problem wasn’t just because of his possessiveness, but because he could not sleep. Fear was bubbling up inside of him every single day. Fearful that he would not see his little girl grow up if he were to die on the battlefield. Fear that Nicki would be taken from him. Fear that he would lose pack members. Being the Alpha came with a lot of fear, that he had not fully understood before now, and he was having a tough time managing these emotions.

Nicki’s scent flooded his nostrils, and he was momentarily distracted, which gave Robin just enough time to graze his neck with his canines.

“Dead” Robin shouted.

Josh let out a frustrated sigh, it was a rookie mistake, and he shook his head in dismay. This, right here was why Nicki could not be on the battlefield with him. He understood other mates would fight side by side, but they were all werewolves, Nicki was human, not long recovered from giving birth, she did not stand a chance against even the lowest untrained rogue, let alone trained warriors.

Nicki walked over to a despondent Josh, and wrapped her arms around his waist, snuggling into his broad chest.

“I am sorry I was a bitch.” She whispered to him.

“No Nicki, I am sorry I was so overbearing.” Josh sighed, placing a k**s on the top of her head.

“I love you.” Nicki sighed out, seeing her mate get beaten in training had caused her stomach to sink. She was used to him getting beat by Zander, but never Robin or anyone else,

“What happened, you never get beaten by anyone other than Zander and Chloe.” Nicki whispered softly.

“I smelt you come onto the training field, it distracted me for a nano second and that was enough for Robin to strike.” Josh sighed out, pulling her even closer to him.

“Oh.” Nicki whispered.

“Josh, I will go to the church.” Nicki sighed, knowing to keep her mate safe, she had to be apart from him the day of the battle.

Josh nodded his head, a huge wave of relief washed over him.

“Thank you froggy.”

“However, I still want to train, so that if anything happens, I can defend myself and Hannah.” Nicki added with determination.

“I will never let anything happen to either of you Nicki, but yes, you should train.” Josh agreed.

“I love you.” He added, then captured her soft lips against his.

Terrance stood with the new omegas, he loved that they wanted to fight for the pack, to stand side by side with them, but he also knew it was going to be an uphill battle to get them in shape, just so they could defend themselves. He felt that he was training lambs going to the slaughter house, and he felt unusually emotional about the whole thing. The omegas were still skin and bone, granted they were in better shape than when they arrived, but they easily tired, at the moment, the most they could do was run laps, and learn how to punch.

Zander stood watching and teaching his warriors, a sense of pride bubbled up inside him, he knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that any of them could easily take on a higher-ranking wolf from another pack, and potentially even take out some of the Alphas, especially ones as weak as Tristan had been. It gave him great satisfaction that his pack would and could defend themselves against anyone who came there way.

“Alpha, these omegas really need to put on weight, they are going to be easy pickings.” Terrance mind linked with Zander.

Zander let out a sigh, this was the problem, he would never tell those guys they could not fight, after all they had more reason than any of them to want to stand up to the oppressors. However, the reality was they extremely weak, and had zero training under their belts, and with such a short time frame in order to get them ready, it was extremely high risk for them all.

“I hear you Terrance, but we cannot take away their right to stand up for what they believe in, lets triple the amount of protein shakes they have before and after training, and I will ask Sarah if she can cook lots of meaty snacks with carbs and veggies for them all to have as and when, to give them the opportunity to grow in muscle strength. I do not want to embarrass them by ordering them off the battlefield when the time comes.” Zander sighed in return.

He knew this would probably hurt their delicate stomachs for a good few days, but once their bodies adjusted it was the best chance he could give them, along with the training.

Chloe looked over at the Crescent Moon pack female omegas, they were also receiving extra training, but were not at the total beginner level of the Jorvick and Ullswater omegas. She grinned as she saw Caroline take down another omega, the determination on her face was inspiring, it seemed Ellie got her warrior spirit from her mother, and not from that coward of a wolf that called himself her father.

Ellie approached her Luna, smiling at Chloe.

“Mam is doing well.” She grinned with pride.

“Yes, she is, if she carry’s on like this she can begin training with the male omegas, then with the warriors in a few days.” Chloe reassured her young friend.

“Chloe, look, I know I have just turned 16, but honestly, I really want to fight.” Ellie looked up at Chloe.

“I get that Ellie, and you will be training, but honestly, I need you to be able to fight, and look after the pups, you will have a special job. Keep them safe and defend them with your life. If you are on the battlefield, then I have to take out a fully trained warrior to guard the pups.” Chloe smiled.

She hoped this would placate Ellie somewhat. Chloe was not lying to the girl, she really did trust her and her abilities to look after the pup’s and the elderly wolves who could not fight for themselves. She would also not leave her alone in that task, there were plenty of young warriors who also wanted to fight, but, would have to be separated with the pups because of their age.

“Ellie, if s**t goes wrong, I want you to lead the pups, and look after Phoenix, Nicki, Hannah and Cheryl for me.” Chloe gazed at her, letting her know just how much she was counting on her for this.

Ellie let out a little sigh, then nodded her head.

“Okay Luna, I understand.” Ellie bowed in respect.

“Sorry did I use that damned voice again?” Chloe giggled, knowing all to well that she had, but not wanting Ellie to feel ordered about this.

“Just a little, but I really do understand. I am worried about my Mam and Drake, also about Ethan, because I know he will be here when it all happens, because of his healing gift.” Ellie sighed, tears stinging her eyes.

“He will, but in the trees, his remit is to wait in a safe place, and have the injured dragged to him, by some of the omegas so that he can be as safe as possible.” Chloe gave a soft smile to try and reassure her.

“What about Mam and Drake?” Ellie questioned.

Chloe turned to look at her, and again with a soft smile she spoke as gently as she could, only hoping she could adhere to her own advice she was about to give Ellie.

“Todays worries are enough for us to deal with, tomorrows will take care of themselves, Ellie. Let’s just focus on what we need to do today.”

Ellie nodded, and returned to her training area, as Chloe let out a long breath, this was going to be harder than she ever imagined it to be.

After the mid-morning training was finished, the wolves all gathered for food, before human to wolf training began at 2pm. Zander, Josh, Chloe and Nicki requested that Robin and Lacey watch over the packs whilst they took their pups to the church, they needed to speak with Ted the vicar, to see if he would agree to them housing the little ones with him, in the church.

After quickly grabbing some food, they placed the kids in the car seats, then drove off the pack lands and through the small human village, to the church holding a bottle of Robins special whiskey.

Ted sat in his office in his vicarage preparing his Sunday sermon, Mrs Beattie knocked on his door.

“Vicar, there are some people to see you, the young couple who had their wedding here not long ago.” She informed him.

Ted smiled warmly at his housekeeper.

“Oh good, send them in please Mrs Beattie.”

Ted placed the lid of his laptop down, he was not feeling overly inspired anyway, so was grateful for the interruption.

“Come in, come in.” he welcomed the werewolves as they piled into his office. The two Alphas making his room look very small as they crouched down under the doorframe to enter.

“Take a seat.” Ted motioned to the two chairs opposite his desk.

Zander and Josh sat down, as Chloe placed Phoenix on the floor so she could toddle about with her stuffed unicorn she had grown attached to, before sitting on Zander’s lap. Josh pulled Nicki onto his own, as she cradled Hannah in her arms.

“Vicar, we have come to ask for your help.” Zander began.

Ted furrowed his browns and nodded for the Alpha to continued.

Zander proceeded to inform him of what was going to happen, as the Vicar listened intently to their story. He did not interrupt and took on board all of what they were saying.

“I will help, the church has underground priest holes, from back when the reformation was happening, they are not large, but we have kept the tunnels clean as I wanted to open them up to the public eventually. They can hide in there if the fighting overspills towards the Church. I will never refuse sanctuary to anyone; let alone those I class as friends.” Ted smiled.

“Now, I do have a question though? Does the pack do a christening celebration for the young ones?” Ted asked.

“Not as you do, but we do have a pack dedication ceremony, where the pups are formally introduced to the Pack, and the members all swear to protect them.” Zander informed him.

“I was wondering, with Hannah here being human, and having a human mother, if you would consider her being christened in the church as well as your own traditions?” Ted asked with a smile.

Nicki looked at Josh, she loved the idea, and her mate nodded at her, it was another inroad for them to build bridges between the werewolf and human worlds.

“I love that.” Nicki grinned.

“Yes, we would count that an honour, we are planning the pack dedication ceremony for both Hannah and Phoenix, next week, before the battle.” Josh added.

“Vicar, could we ask that you christen Phoenix as well, or would that not be appropriate as she is werewolf.” Chloe asked.

“It would give me great joy to welcome Phoenix into the church, as I have said, God is the creator of all things.” Ted grinned with satisfaction.

“Then, how about if you come to the dedication ceremony, and then we can head here for the christening side of the celebration.” Chloe looked at the others for their approval, and each nodded.

“Yes, this will give my congregation to chance to also make a promise before God to protect your children. Now, will Robins special brew be available?” Ted laughed.

“No, I have banned it after my hangover.” Chloe giggled, but then pulled out the bottle.

“However, we thought you may like this bottle, remember handle with care.” Zander chuckled as Chloe passed the whiskey to Ted, who’s eye went wide with gratitude.

“Thank you, for everything Vicar.” Zander stretched out his hand to shake Teds.

“Also, I do not wish for this to cost your church any money, so I will make a donation to you to cover the costs, plus a little extra to help you get the priest holes completed, so that you can open them up to the public.” Zander grinned.

“Why that would be a huge blessing indeed Alpha.” Ted grinned, it was in fact an answer to his prayers.

“What about a donation for the roof, churches always need a new roof?” Josh asked thinking his pack could cover that cost for them, and supply workers after the battle is over.

Ted threw his head back and laughed.

“No, we had that done a couple of years ago, but thank you.” He smiled at Josh.

They all went to leave, and as they stood at the vicarage door, Ted looked earnestly at them all.

“Rest assured, you will all be in my prayers. May God bless and keep you, may his light shine upon your face.” He prayed over them.

A lump formed in Chloe’s throat, at the kindness of the human Vicar who could have preached fire and brimstone at them, because of what they were, but instead welcomed them all with kindness and compassion. She was not sure if she believed in what the vicar did, but she knew this was what all people of religion should strive to become, inclusive, and loving, no matter what the others’ beliefs or where they hailed from. Chloe made an internal promise, that she would strive to be more like Ted in everything she did.
