The Alpha's Exchanged Mate
The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 74

Alexander’s POV…

I watched her inhale and exhale; she looked extremely beautiful while sleeping. I don’t think I have ever been so engrossed in watching a person sleep. Despite being unconscious, creases of worry weren’t far from her fine lines. I had told her, but does she ever listen? It’s one thing to be warned of a looming disaster and another to know damn well the bitter truth but still do whatever it is you want. I must admit Edwina is one hell of a stubborn woman. At the same time, she has the most tender heart I have ever come across.

If I were in her position, I would either poison my sister slowly or just have her experience a miserable death. Turning away from her, I lay on my back, taking a deep breath. There are more impending situations abreast at the moment. Also, I can’t help but think of Edwina and the turmoil her heart would be in at the moment. Somehow, I felt it was my place to do something. Not just to protect her but to also assure her that she did the right thing.

Looking back at her to be sure she was deeply asleep, I moved myself up swiftly, grabbing my phone to check the time. It was barely morning, but my mind was awake and already reeling into exhaustion. Though being considerate would do, it would be nice to put out some frustration on Caleb. Letting out a snort, I dialed him.

“Get your bloody a*s out of bed. I need you to drive me to the prison.” I told him, not bothering to indulge in any courtesy. Causing a stir might make my day.

I heard him g***n and mumble some incoherent words at the same time, “remind me to always have my phone on airplane mode whenever I go to sleep.” Caleb said. I could feel him glaring hard at the phone screen.

I chuckled lightly, trying not to wake my Luna up. “Why would I ever attempt to remind you of such, when your frustration is the bane of my existence.”

“I really want to curse you right now, but its too unfortunate that you are my alpha.” Calming himself, I heard him take a long breath. “Where would you like your humble servant to take you my Lord?”

“There is nothing humble about you, Caleb. But you know what, I will be out in a few minutes; please ensure to be available.”

“Would you be able to get ready on your own?” He sounded unsure, “cause luna….”

“Don’t worry.” I cut him short, casting a glance towards Edwina’s sleeping frame. “She is long gone.”

Caleb chuckled, “must have given her a nice dosage then.”

“I would pretend not to hear that,” I muttered, hanging up, as a smile treacherously lingered on my lips. Observing Edwina for a few seconds to be sure I was not blowing out my cover by being reckless, I heaved myself into the wheelchair with enough ease. Helping myself to the closet, I grabbed a quick pair of navy blue suits and pants and went into the bathroom to get ready for the day. Moving towards the door, I locked it properly to prevent Edwina from sneaking up on me. She was so unpredictable. It amused me to see her comfortably open up her whole self to me. I would bet what she says doesn’t align with how she feels about me. All the same, I wasn’t ready to take any risk that would require my secrets to be out in the open. As the water touched my skin, the urge to let out a m**n at the sharp cold sting the water provided sent a ripple through my shaft. Staring down at myself, I was hard as wood.

“F**k.” Cursing out in a whisper, I felt myself wrapping it with my full palm. It was warm, and the thought of burying myself in Edwina’s warm p***y ran through my head. Unintentionally I had begun to stroke myself; a part of me wanted to step out of the bathroom so bad and f**k her till she lost her voice in the process of yelling out my name.

However, my ever conscious mind reminded me of the reason I had dumped the warmth of my bed and that of my wife to have a cold shower. As if on cue, my hard d**k deflated. I had so many things on my mind; too many puzzles I would love to solve.

If my intuition is right, then there is definitely more to the impending war than meets the eye. What I do not understand is why Ben detests me so much. We had been together since we could barely talk. Shaking off the thoughts once again, I got out of the bath and got dressed. Coming out of the room, I saw that Edwina was still sound asleep. Even though the urge to shake her came to mind, I left her to have her rest to the fill.

Trying to creep out of a house that had every one of its workers on full alert was just a child’s play. Just as I wheeled myself out of the room, Becca met me by the door, her head bowed.

“Good morning dear Alpha.” She mused.

“I need to go out.”

“I came to inform you that Beta Caleb is waiting.”

I nodded towards her as an affirmation to get me moving; getting to the foyer, Caleb stood still like a deer caught in the light.

I raised a stern brow at him, “hungry much? Isn’t it too early?”

Caleb gulped hard, his eyes rounding up like saucers. “Becca made me scones.” He pointed at her accusingly.

Looking back at the accused, she glared at him furiously.

“And you couldn’t resist?” I prompted, enjoying the scene. Caleb hardly crumbled under any scrutiny, but seeing him mortified was priceless.

Getting a hold of himself, Caleb blinked twice. “If you are ready to go, may I.” It was more of a statement than a question.

Feeling like I had done enough, I smirked. “Yes, please.”
