The Alpha's Exchanged Mate
The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 189

Alexander’s POV…

Watching them march towards the tunnel as I told them to arrange themselves made me feel good at heart. It was obvious they didn’t care about my deficiency; they would harken to every word that came out of my mouth. Their howls as they shifted, sent a thrill down my spine.

I had decided that some groups should shift into their wolves, and the ones using weapons shouldn’t shift just yet. Caleb, Carlos, Jason, and the rest of us assigned to the packhouse didn’t shift either.

To make the attacks easier, those who have shifted would subdue the sizzlers’ army on the different angles of the pack. It would be too much work if they had to get there and shift. It’s better for us when our enemies are caught off guard.

I sighed deeply as I remembered this wasn’t an ordinary move we were about to make.

“Halt, everyone!” I called out as some were about to step into the tunnel. They all turned around to look at me with eagerness in their eyes. They were truly ready to counter whatever was intended to stop them.

I cleared my throat, pacing around with my wheel. “I know you all know what this means tonight. We have come together as one to stand against our oppressor and the one who trampled on our loyalty, calling us fools to our faces. I want to believe we aren’t just doing this for ourselves alone but for the peace of mind of every member of the night howlers pack. First, I would like to use this medium to tell you how sorry I am for disappointing you as your alpha. For giving room to a traitor amongst us, I’m sorry that you all have to go through this because of me. The hard truth is we are heading for a do-or-die fight. There is no certainty that every one of us will survive, but I want every soul to survive. I want you all to fight for each other and together against the enemies. Fight tooth and nail and ensure they don’t defeat us. Make sure we have a victorious story to tell back home and a memorable history about how we fought and conquered. I finally want to thank the ex-prisoners amongst us for the resilience you all have put up for the past few months of training rigorously. This is the time to act true to the sleepless nights and show that you are sorry for your past decisions. Thank you all for standing up for what is right. Let’s do this and end the tyranny. Moreso, let’s stick to the plan for those of you who would be getting into the pack house. Ensure to find your way to the pack council member’s room first and subdue anyone you meet to avoid any hindrance on our part.”

They howled and shrieked in response, and I could feel the rejuvenating energy surrounding them all. It gave me the courage to trust my instincts that had instigated the attack quite earlier than planned. But something inside me kept insisting on not wasting too much time on it. Attacks are unpredictable, and knowing how the sizzlers pack works, they definitely won’t be informing any of us before unleashing their wrath upon us.

After they all calmed down, Caleb ordered them to move back towards the tunnel, as explained.

I must say my family line has a knack for creativity; the tunnel had a spacious hole inside of it. I had almost thought we would have to crawl through, and then someone like me would have to worry about everyone knowing my ability to walk. As we all moved with determination towards our intended destination, my heart paced faster as we moved ahead. The tunnel was farther than I had imagined. It took us almost thirty minutes to get to the middle, where the parts to the angles of the pack were cut out. With the help of Caleb and Carlos, the warriors were dispatched to each end with enough numbers.

Our population was no doubt massive. We would have choked in the tunnel if my grandfather hadn’t been thoughtful about the tunnel’s construction. The path that would lead to the pack house was more of a steel ladder to climb through. I knew then that there was no longer a hiding place for me.

The warriors went first, leaving me and the others. Carlos and Jason looked worried as they bit their lips, staring at the steel.

“How do we go about this alpha? You might probably need to stay behind. I’m sorry if I sound rude, please.” Jason muttered.

I saw from the corner of my eyes Carlos nudged Jason on the side. Caleb seemed unperturbed, like he would be fine with whatever decision I made. But I wasn’t ready to back down yet, despite my personal reasons for the decisions I had made. The time would eventually come when I would need to come out openly to everyone.

Maybe now is the time to let them know they have been helpful and sincere in their dealings with me. Even though I still have strong doubts about trusting people, they appear to be the only ones I can lean on.

Staring up at them, not wanting to waste our precious time. I stood up from the wheelchair, standing upright. Caleb had an indifferent look on his face. I should really take some classes on how to hide emotions from him. Carlos and Jason let out a girlish gasp.

“Can we talk about this later?” I blurted, not really having the intention of explaining myself. I could give them a brief surface explanation later on.

They gulped, making their way up the ladder. I watched patiently as they made a move, my hands sweaty. I hoped my legs won’t fail me when I really needed them. But a low growl from my wolf made me feel assured a bit. I was on the right track, and that was what mattered the most. Climbing onto the ladder myself after Caleb, it led right to the middle of the pack members’ meeting room which was fully occupied by every member of the pack’s council, including Ben.

And to my amusement, they were also strategizing on an attack to, you know who, the night howlers pack.
