The Alpha's Exchanged Mate -
The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 165
Alexander’s POV…
Parading the dungeon where all of Ben’s men were locked up, I shook my head at their pitiable sight. I haven’t yet decided what I intend to do with them, as it was the least on my plate to worry about.
For days, it all seemed okay, but my team and I have been working relentlessly to ensure we don’t become enslaved by those treacherous individuals. Knowing Ben well enough, he would have taken notice of his inability to reach his men. The encrypted phone, which had belonged to Jared, kept ringing nonstop. We intentionally left it on to know when Ben would give up. For days he hadn’t tried the line, which implies he had begun to suspect something.
It got me worried, and as much as I want us to get this over and done with, I can’t have my warriors exposed to the virus that had spread out in the sizzlers pack. At the same time, we need to act as fast as we can.
Our next stop was the training ground, and I must say, Caleb, Carlos, and Jason have done a great job keeping all of the ex-prisoners in check. They fight so well that one would think they were initially experts. I couldn’t have been luckier with my small, strong and reliable team.
With their help, we have been discreet with all of our plans, which is the only reason behind our success so far. To avoid relenting, I have tried to cheer them all up to get ready for what is to come.
I shifted uncomfortably in the wheelchair. My butts ached as I had been sitting in it way longer than usual.
“Thanks so much for staying dedicated to your training till this time. I assure you that you would have no regrets being of help to the protection of the night howlers. I want to inform you to prepare your mind as all your skills will be needed soon enough. It’s our place to ensure the night howlers pack is kept safe, and I do hope you feel the same way.” I said to the prisoners turned warriors.
I really need to stop referring to them as prisoners; it’s not right for me to act in such a degrading manner. They all cheered after the address, and I left the training ground along with Caleb and the rest.
We drove back to my office, and we were cautious of where we talked and what we said to avoid selling ourselves out. None of us said a word to each other until the cars dropped at the company, and we were all seated in the office.
I observed their faces. There is a different glow to each one of them. I could tell that of Caleb as he had frequently been visiting the packhouse lately now that he and Becca were beginning to get along. I would have teased the hell out of him if I wasn’t so preoccupied with fighting an impending war.
And then I noticed he and Carlos were beginning to act more civil around each other. Becca must have given both of them scones to eat at the same time. Becca’s buttery scones would make anyone’s heart melt.
Each of them settled into a seat while I wallowed in pain in the wheelchair with my butt thinning out.
“I must commend you all. Thanks so much for a job well done. You did great with the training of the ex-prisoners.” I said to them.
“Carlos and the rest of the omegas deserve all of the accolades. They poured all their minds into ensuring the positive turnout of the men.” Caleb explained.
I was taken aback. There is a need for me to actually check what the hell changed between the both of them.
Carlos chuckled, “we all deserve the commendation. Every one of us took part in ensuring a job well done.”
I cleared my throat, “as much as we have done so much before, we need to do more now. Knowing Ben well, I can assure you he would do everything in his power against all odds to ensure he brings us down. Especially since he can’t seem to reach his men.”
“But they are experiencing a pandemic.” Jason put in.
“Still won’t stop an overtly ambitious mind like Ben’s from doing anything,” Caleb added.
“What’s the plan now?” Carlos asked.
“Gather your men. I want us to use heavy fighting tools. Mostly explosives, we would fight in our wolf form, but at the same time, there is a need to subdue them. You know how large their army is.” I said.
“When do you think we should attack?” Caleb inquired
“Approximately ninety-six hours from now. Do you think you can gather all that you need by then?” I questioned them.
“Forty-eight hours is just about enough,” Carlos assured.
I sighed in relief, knowing they were all at the same table just as I was. “Then we are good to go, then?”
“Hundred,” Jason said.
“Good luck to us then,” I muttered.
“We would leave now, alpha.” Carlos and Jason announced. Taking a bow, they stepped out at the same time.
Inhaling and exhaling, it felt like there was an actual clog in my chest. Taking a long deep breath, I let it go, enabling some nice air intake.
“You know you can stretch your legs now, right? You don’t have to stick yourself in the wheelchair.” Caleb stated.
I sneered at him, doing as he said. My bones cackled as I stretched. It felt so good I almost m****d along. Stretching for long minutes, I returned to my sitting position just in case any of them returned.
Settling in the chair, I grinned widely, giving Caleb a weird look.
“Why the hell are you looking like that?” He snickered.
“You look really beautiful.” I teased.
Kissing his teeth, Caleb glared at me. “What do you want?”
“What exactly transpired between you and Carlos?” I asked, finally letting the curious part of me take charge.
Caleb shrugged, “we got along.”
“No way!” I yelled emphatically.
Looking towards the door, he glared at me. “can you not do that?”
“Do what?” I asked, acting innocent. “You mean, talk about the fact that you have been screwing not just Becca’s scones but Becca herself.”
I almost chewed my tongue out when I got a hold of myself and found Ramona holding the doorknob, her eyes throwing daggers at Caleb.
