The Alpha's Exchanged Mate
The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 164

Ben’s POV…

Just when I thought I sounded really serious and my voice needed to be heard, mother f*****g Bethel had himself excused.

“Can you wait up in the study for me, please? I would like to freshen up. I reek of their p***y.” He spat in distaste like he wasn’t just moaning to that same p***y.

Acting like the obedient servant I wasn’t, I bowed a bit, heading out of the room. My thoughts clouded as I walked the hallway down to his study. The feeling that all wasn’t well was settling deep in the pit of my belly. There is no way my men who had stayed loyal to me even when their life was in obvious danger would lose contact and not reach out to me in the least.

Someone like Jared goes to the extent of leaving the night howlers just to come to find me and keep me updated. Maybe I was too slow in responding, but at the same time, it isn’t really my fault. The only reason I aligned with the sizzlers pack was to use their resources. But not having control over them all has been an added disadvantage.

There was no way I would let Xander catch me off guard, but I needed to know exactly what was happening. I am being kept in the dark too much.

I had almost pulled out the whole of my hair from pacing back and forth in the study room before Bethel thought it fitting to walk in. The way he moved was just too prideful. As annoying as he was, Bethel sure knew how to pull his weight around, which is one of the reasons why I had to join hands with him.

After settling in his chair, he held my gaze. “Sit your a*s down, Ben. What’s wrong?”

I sat down, trying to control my emotions and not sound helpless to him. One last thing I would ever do is let anyone have a sniff of how I am feeling.

“I can’t reach my men in the night howlers pack.” I told him, “I feel like something is wrong, and there is a need to act fast if we must get what we both want.”

The look on his face told me he wasn’t ready to hear me out. But I have no intention of backing out. Folding his hands together regally, he looked me in the eyes. “So, what are you suggesting we do?”

“Find a means to attack them when we can.” I offered. It sounded like the coolest advice I would ever give to anyone.

“Ben, since you worked side by side with an alpha for years, I want to assume you know how costly it is to run a pack saddled with the break out of a pandemic. How can you suggest we ignore the pack members’ health and lives to chase clout?” Bethel had a stern look on his face.

Almost makes me draw back, but I am not one to give up so easily. “I’m not saying that. We can find other ways without necessarily harming anyone.”

“You intend to use my warriors, and they can catch this virus if care isn’t taken, which would be a huge loss on my part.” He insisted.

I placed a hand on the table, trying hard to steady my nerves. “Don’t get me wrong, alpha. You know how beneficial attacking the night howlers pack is to both of us…..”

“Not at the expense of my pack members….” He cut in.

If this damn alpha doesn’t watch it, I would really make him headless. His insistence on making me frustrated is really getting to me for good this time.

We both stayed quiet, me gritting my teeth and thinking of so many things that I could do to him to make him feel the exact kind of horror and pain I was feeling inside.

After a while, he cleared his throat, picking up his phone. Tapping on it for a brief second, he placed the phone on speaker after dialling a number.

“How are you?” Bethel said into the receiver.

“I’m fine, thanks, alpha.” The voice on the other line which sounded feminine responded.

“I need an update on what is happening there.” He continued.

“Nothing out of the ordinary alpha. It’s just the same way it has been for a while now.” The response came.

“Are you sure?”

“Very sure.”

“Do you have an idea if any of our men has gone missing? We haven’t been able to reach them.”

There was a brief pause before the reply came. It was almost like the person had to move farther from where they were standing to avoid being heard. “After the whole ruckus at the pack’s court the other day. I think the others are keeping a low profile. Nothing has happened since then, but it’s obvious everyone is trying to be careful.”

“So, there is no actual intention of getting back at us or probably a form of preparation for war?” Bethel pressed on.

“Nothing as such.” Replied the voice.

With that, Bethel hung up, looking me squarely in the face. “you heard that, right?”

I still wasn’t convinced enough, “that still doesn’t imply that nothing is going on. We made a good deal of a threat. Are you saying they are keeping their hands folded?”

My persistence was getting to Bethel as he rubbed at his forehead. This seemed like the first time I would see him a bit disoriented.

“Alright, Ben. This is what we would do; by the end of the week, the lockdown should be easing up a bit. We would prepare our warriors and plan a brief attack on the night howlers. So, I’m making a promise that we will get all that we want in the next few days. How about that?”

For the first time since I walked into the study, I let out a long breath. It had been a long time coming, and I could finally get my revenge and all I wanted.

“That sounds perfect,” I told him.

“Will you have some whiskey then? You look like you could actually do with some.” He said jokingly. Heading towards his minibar to grab a bottle and some glasses.

I really do not mind whatever diss he throws at me from now on. As long as he would serve as a means to fulfil my dreams, I can be respectful for the time being. Just till the time I get what I want.

“Here is to victory.” Bethel raised his glass in a cheer.

Clicking our glasses together, I downed the whiskey in one go enjoying how it trailed down my throat. I really can’t wait to have Xander trampled under my foot. It would be the most pleasurable thing after s*x for me, probably might be forever on my top list.
