The Alpha's Exchanged Mate -
The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 144
Alexander’s POV…..
I opened my eyes, feeling like there was a heavy weight on my shoulders. My head ached like a hammer was working a nail into it. I tried to check the watch on my wrist and almost thought I had gone blind; everything was a blur. Blinking twice, I got a clearer view. It was past five in the evening.
“What the f**k!” I exclaimed.
Alcohol high is entirely on a different level; my whole body was extremely weak, and I was also super hungry. Looking towards my side, Caleb looked dead with his hands outstretched on his sides and half his eyes open.
An idea came to mind as I smirked to myself, lifting myself off the wheelchair. Sometimes I get so comfortable in it that it feels like a part of me already. I twirled my neck feeling some strain on it due to my sleeping position.
Wheeling myself towards Caleb, I searched for anything I could use to tickle his sides or dip into his mouth. Nothing appeared in sight, and I had no choice but to return to my table and grab a pen. Before I could turn back, the bastard was fully awake, staring at me with a raised brow.
“You must really think I am a fool.” He spat
If I wasn’t so strong-hearted, I would have screamed at the way he stared at me. That Buffon almost made me jump out of my skin.
“Can you not act so creepy?” I yawned, feeling my throat dry.
I moved towards the fridge to grab a bottle of water. Being the considerate person I was, I took another one and threw it over to him. He caught hold of it, not missing a bit.
“I should thank you for this. But I am really too tired to show courtesy.” Caleb muttered, uncapping the bottle.
I laughed, “why was I expecting otherwise?”
“Damn! I’m so hungry.”
“Me too.” I admitted, “you should come with me to the packhouse and have some homely dinner.”
Caleb raised a brow, squinting his eyes. “Are you playing with me right now?”
Not wanting to end the rush of excitement I was feeling, I pretended not to understand what he meant. “I didn’t realize you are this ungrateful! A whole alpha as great as myself is inviting you over to my great abode to have dinner, and here you are turning my invite down?”
The look on his face was priceless; I could have sworn he tried hard to not cry.
“You really can’t be serious right now. Are you intentionally trying to mess with me?”
I shrugged nonchalantly, “you tell me.” I pulled his leg further.
“Stop this, Xander. You and I know I just had a fallout with Becca. I can’t deal with seeing her right now.”
“Oh, that!” I gloated.
He stared at me with a blank face, “you are one hell of an annoying person….” The sharp pain he felt in his head made him seeth. “Since you won’t be of help to me, I would just take my leave and go mop on my own.”
“I do have a wife and a nice bed to return to.” I bounced.
Caleb chuckled, “you are nothing to write home about. Thanks for reminding me of my pathetic situation.”
I stayed silent, observing him. He looked worn out, almost as if he would pass out also. We seem to be in the same boat, just different angles. As much as I do have a Luna to return home to, it doesn’t exactly seem like my woman. There has been no exact definition of our feelings for each other. Though, one thing was for sure; I find Edwina interesting and someone I would love to spend more time with. But at the same time, I am just as paranoid and uncertain as I can get, knowing how much betrayal I have had to endure.
Life is messy, and it never promised to be easy. One just has to live it in whichever way one finds convenient.
Watching my good friend again, I sincerely hope that he reclines deeply into himself to choose right. Judging by his reaction lately and not wanting to be too certain. I can say Caleb feels something strongly towards Becca but has no exact explanation for it yet.
“Take your time, Caleb.” I blurted out, surprised at my own outburst. “There is no rush to expressing how you really feel. It would hurt me if you end up being betrayed and your heart gets broken.”
I could hear him take a deep breath. Caleb looked towards me with a solemn expression on his face. “I really wish there was some other way to it. How did I really go from zero to hundred?”
“Life does so to you with no warning.”
“I don’t want to lose Becca.”
“Is it just me, or have you really not mentioned Ramona all day?”
Caleb scoffed, a frown enveloping his face. “She is about to lose it.”
He was talking in parables, and none of it was clear to me. “What do you mean?”
“Just when I was trying to figure out a plan on talking to Becca, she was more concerned about us getting married.”
I smirked in amusement, “sounds like a plan.”
He glared at me, “really now?”
“You can’t figure out women’s issues; you just have to be sure about your feelings.”
Caleb tapped his thighs, shaking his head. “Things alcohol does.” He said with a snort, “since when did you become a relationship coach?”
I grinned, “since you decided to make a fool of yourself.”
“It’s your aim to look so serious for me. I’m so not taking your advice.”
I nodded in agreement, “obviously, yours works better, and it’s why you will miss out on a sumptuous dinner prepared by Becca.”
He grumbled, “can you not keep going back to the topic?”
“The last time I checked, there is something referred to as freedom of expression.”
Laughing hard, Caleb sat up. “Let’s leave all that aside. I know you got drunk as a result of today’s happening. I didn’t get to think much about it, and I feel guilty. How are you feeling?”
I sighed, knowing what he was pointing at exactly. “Not so cool, but I don’t want to talk about it. So, all I want now is some good food, good f**k and a good night’s sleep, please..” I meant all I said, as it seemed like I could eat the whole room if it got filled with food.
“I should oblige you then,” Caleb smirked, standing up from his seat. He walked behind me, wheeling me out to get my pretty belly filled up. I’m so not getting drunk again.
