The Alpha's Exchanged Mate
The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 107

Authors POV…

Staring into the evening sky, as it went from Golden orange to dark shades of grey, it soothed her mind. It felt safe being here, even though it hadn’t been the best moments. She was paying for her sins; the moon goddess was considerate and had brought a good-hearted sister her way.

Sonia smiled at the thought of Edwina’s pure joy when she had felt her belly the last time she came visiting.

Different thoughts kept her mind awake, thoughts of how it would have been different if she hadn’t grown up thinking she was better than her sister because she had a wolf. She thought of how things would have turned out if she had stood up to her father and protected her younger sister, like every elder sister would do.

It wasn’t a thing of surprise, though. Sonia was an exact version of her father, while Edwina had taken after their dead mother. Her soft-heartedness had been taken for granted by their father. Edwina was barely three days old when their mother died, but till her death, she had protected her little girl from any form of dejection.

Instead of her to have continued with it, she joined hands with her father to make the life of her sister miserable.

The past few days had been her reminiscing on her past actions and how she could rectify them for the sake of her unborn child. Sonia had no idea she could be so protective of anyone, most especially someone you haven’t met yet. It obviously was true that a mother and child’s bond is from the very womb. She can’t imagine her life without the feeling of her unborn child around her. It had kept her strong and resilient despite the deep shit she found herself in. She wants a new and chaos-free life for her child.

Her thoughts got paused when Edwina walked in. Sonia moved away from the balcony towards the room, walking with a gait stride toward her sister. Edwina had her hands stretched out, hugging her tightly.

“Thank you so much, Sonia. Thank you, thank you.” Edwina grinned excitedly as she swirled her sister gently.

Sonia couldn’t push her away because she felt comforted by the hug. “what are you thanking me for?” She asked.

Edwina released her, still holding her hands. “for revealing the identity of Ben’s spies, you helped us greatly.”

“Oh, that? You didn’t believe me at first right?” Sonia queried.

Edwina looked guilty. She found it hard to mask her emotions. “I’m sorry.” She muttered.

Waving her off, Sonia sat down. “You don’t need to be, I understand if you are skeptical. I’m glad I did right.”

The shock was evident on the faces of Edwina and her second hand, Becca. Sonia never apologized for anything.

“Should Athena get you something?” She asked her guests.

The smile on Edwina’s lips kept getting wider, “is this a new era?” She asked, obviously amused.

Sonia chuckled, “I guess I’m tired of being a villian, for the sake of my child. There a whole lot of things I regret doing in my lifetime and one of it being my attitude towards you…”

“You don’t have to….” Edwina tried to say. Sonia held up her hand.

“Please let me finish. It took everything in me to admit this to you, and I want you to please listen. I had no intention of acting differently towards you, you are my sister, Edwina, and whether I like to admit it or not, you are my sister. But I was young and naive. Even before you were born, mother always doted on you, and I wanted to be paid such attention too.

Our father seemed like he would only be able to give me his undivided attention only if I treated you the way he did. Maybe I would have stood up to him if I knew it was all to take advantage of me.”

Tears dropped from her eyes, but she kept on. “Sometimes, I felt irritated that he treated you the way he did. However, I was too selfish and enjoyed how I was being treated to fight for you and stand with you. My heart reached out to you whenever you cried your eyes out then, but my ego would never let me come to you. Now that I am about to be a mother myself, I understand why mum was always so protective of you. I would go against the world also to protect my child. I can’t imagine him or her being treated like an outcast. I have no idea how I intend to go about it, but I know that whether my child has a wolf or not, I would never forsake him or her.”

Sonia sniffed as she held the hands of a crying Edwina. “I’m so sorry, Edwina. Fate messed with us badly, and I take the blame for the part I played in hurting you. I don’t know if you would ever find it in your heart to forgive me. I’m so sorry.” She wailed.

Edwina held onto her sister short of words as Becca wiped a tear from her eyes. The two sisters look so heart-wrenching to watch. Their emotions were all displayed like market wares.

Taking her sister’s hand, Sonia placed it on her belly. “I know this might seem too much to ask. But I want to beg you, Edwina, just in case I don’t make it. Please do not forsake my child. I want you to love my child like you have loved me endlessly. I know I don’t deserve to ask you of this, but I am begging Edwina, please protect and love my child, please.”

Sonia looked helpless. Her fears had been let out in her confession. The fear of what the future would be for her unborn child, all because of her, made her rethink to amending her ways. Her younger sister is the only one she can count on, despite not being on much good terms with one another. She trusts her to take care of her child like her own.

Leaning into the warmth her sister’s hug provided, Sonia knew she had finally done something right for the first time in her entire life.
