The Alpha's Exchanged Mate -
The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 103
Authors POV…
Becca tapped her feet on the hard floor persistently, biting her lips nervously as she stared into space, awaiting a particular figure.
The Luna had sent her on an urgent errand that couldn’t be put on hold and, at the same time, needed to be done discreetly. After she and Edwina had left Sonia’s temporary home, she had been told to find Carlos to help discover the unfaithful wolves amongst them.
Carlos had been busy all day and wasn’t chanced to see her until he got off duty in the evening. To avoid missing him, she had taken it upon herself to head down to his office to find him. When she did sight his silhouette figure, he appeared exhausted.
She felt guilty sighting him. It was her fault he had to be out here when he could be in his home resting and shedding the day’s stress off.
“I feel so bad right now.” Becca confessed, still biting hard on her lips, as he came close.
Carlos gave her an amused look. He did look tired but wasn’t so exhausted to the point of not acknowledging her call. Especially when she had tagged it really important, moreover it was an opportunity to see her again.
He didn’t know what it was, but he felt comfortable around Becca and wouldn’t mind spending most of his time in her presence.
This was a totally new feeling for him; he was never one to be in the same space with a woman for too long. The moment he f***s her, which doesn’t take longer than a few hours from their first meeting, he hardly wants to remain in her space. But Becca had him a bit jelly even from afar.
In order to get on a walk with her tonight, he had intentionally parked his car a bit far from where they had decided to meet.
Placing his finger on her suffering lips, he gently pulled it out of her teeth’s grip, “do you mind taking it easy on these poor lips? You did nothing wrong. The day had already taken its toll on me. And I must say you made it all worth it the moment I sighted your beautiful face.”
Becca tried to hide her smile, “is this what you tell them?”
“Who?” He asked, pretending to be oblivious to what she meant.
She laughed harder this time, “you are such a clown, Carlos.”
“Would be a clown for you any day, anytime.” They both laughed for a while before Carlos got serious. “What was it you wanted to tell me about?”
Looking around, Becca noticed he didn’t have his car nearby. Carlos was quick to understand her countenance. “Since you said it was important, I thought it might be nice to take a night stroll and talk it out. The car might have been bugged.”
Becca smacked her lips, reasoning with him, “you are right.”
“Shall we then?” He gestured towards the road.
Smiling, she fell in line with him. “The Luna needs your help, and it’s meant to be top secret.” Began Becca.
“I swore my allegiance to the alpha and Luna of the night howler’s pack. So, of course it would be kept till my very last breath.”
Becca stared at him in admiration, “that’s so thoughtful of you.”
“Stop teasing.” He looked away shyly.
“So, we got an intel on the wolves who had sworn their allegiance to Ben. They have a peculiar scar of the crescent that differs from that of the night howler’s.”
Carlos looked lost, “I don’t get you.”
“The imposters who are working for the fallen beta Ben, have a scar that differentiates them.”
Realizing what she meant, “you don’t say!” Carlos exclaimed, “please tell me, how do we know the scar?”
“It’s a crescent like scar on the back of their neck. Every wolf who had pledged to being a loyalist of Benedict have it on them.”
Carlos hugged Becca tightly out of the blue, “if only you knew how much this means to me, Becca. You are a moon goddess sent.”
Becca blinked, still reeling from the sudden hold, “don’t get too excited yet, the person who told us isn’t to be really trusted. But, it wouldn’t be fair to take any chances. It was why the Luna asked for you to help her affirm the assertions before letting the alpha in on it.”
“Trust me on that. The alpha initially had tasked each clan to find a way of fishing the imposters out. Thanks so much for this.”
Raising a quirky brow, Becca giggled, “if I knew you would be so excited by this, I would have made you beg for the information.”
“You wouldn’t do that, cause you care too much about me.” Carlos added, bumping shoulders with her.
They both laughed as they continued their walk.
The both of them had been too engrossed in their discussion with each other, they didn’t notice the pissed-looking man storming toward them.
“May I know what exactly you are doing walking down the road with Carlos like he is a long friend of yours?” Caleb blurted out without taking a pause. He looked livid.
Becca and Carlos jumped at the sight of him. They were least expecting him. “Oh my heavens Caleb, when did you get here?” Becca asked.
“I should be asking you that. Did you see where you are right now?” He threw back.
Raising her head, Becca gasped when she realized they had walked to Caleb’s street. “I didn’t realize we had walked this long.”
“If I may ask, what are you doing outside your home shirtless?” Carlos questioned.
“No, you might not.” Caleb growled back, gripping Becca’s hand. “I guess your walk has come to an end, because I would be gladly taking her with me.”
“But…” Carlos tried to argue as he looked from Caleb to Becca.
Raising a finger to shush him up, Caleb glared. “I don’t want to argue, but Becca has something to do for me. Isn’t it true Becca?” He looked into her eyes, pleading, hoping she would sense the turmoil his heart was in.
Becca knew what his look meant. She sighed, turning to Carlos. I’m really sorry, Carlos. I will talk to you later.” She said.
“You sure?” Carlos asked as he threw a side glare at Caleb.
“I promise.” Not letting her say her proper goodbyes, Caleb dragged her along with him, throwing his middle finger at Carlos from behind.
