Chapter 90
A week went by and Asher still hadn’t returned. Elizabeth didn’t want to be worried based on what Alex had said but at times, that worry seemed to creep out without her even thinking about him. She couldn’t deny the fact that she had a special connection with him. It had been there all along even though she had been too stubborn to acknowledge it.
Elizabeth liked him and now, it was leaning dangerously towards love but she still didn’t know how to bridge the feeling that had suddenly come upon her. She missed his presence here. Not a day passes without her thinking about him.
Eva had also noticed how much Elizabeth missed him and was forced to comment on it. It had been during one of their discussion that she had brought up the subject of Asher.
“You do miss him right?” She asked.
Elizabeth didn’t know whether to bare her feelings to her but thinking about it now, she realized that she could. Eva had been like a mother to her for a while now and she knew she could trust her and so, Elizabeth replied in the affirmative.
“I knew it!” Eva laughed.
She arched a brow.
“You did?’’ Elizabeth asked and the older lady nodded.
She let out a sigh as she looked down on her clasped fingers. She didn’t know her feelings were very much in the open. That only meant she was very easy to read and she didn’t know what to feel about that.
“You know? I really didn’t think I would miss him but I do” Elizabeth admitted truthfully with a chuckle.
“Well, I don’t know if you know this but love is something that is unpredictable and my God, dear, I’ve seen the way you look at Asher and I was certain, it would be matter of time before you realize it yourself”.
Elizabeth smiled and couldn’t help but agree with her. Eva was right. Anytime Asher was in the room, she had this adoration for him that she didn’t have with another man. It was a heady feeling, one she had never felt with anyone before. Asher brought out the worst and best in her.
That conversation had been a week ago and Elizabeth agreed with everything she had said. Right now, she was missing Asher especially with his protective yet caring attitude. Elizabeth had never seen a man like him that fascinated her.
Right from the moment they met, he always and there were times when she tried to mask her feelings, wishing she could hate him with every fiber of her being.
Her child start to whimper in his cradle and she quickly picked him up and walked back to seat down on the sofa. It’s been a week since she moved back to Asher’s room.
“You miss your papa? I miss him too” Elizabeth murmured as she hugged and kissed his chubby cheeks.
Just then, Alex walked into the room with flowers in hand. He hadn’t missed out on a day of bringing her flowers and aside from that, He had kept on his promise to always be by her side and he had done that quite well.
Elizabeth was grateful to him, for his presence here helped her feel safe and secured. She felt assured that he was going to do everything within his powers to protect her and her child.
“Hello, hello” Alex smiled as he walked in further and handed her the flowers.
She took hold of it with smiles on her face. “Thank you, Alex. You are going to spoil me rotten”
He gave a shrug. “You deserve it”
Elizabeth smile only widen at his word before she lowered her face to hide the embarrassing blush trying to appear on her cheeks. Alex has a funny way of making her feel comfortable whenever he is around.
If he wasn’t complimenting her looks, then he was certainly trying to make her smile and she did smile alright? So much so that it warms her heart.
“May I carry him?”
She nodded and Alex picked him up, twirling him around, causing baby Sam to giggle out loud for joy.
The sight was a beautiful one and Elizabeth found herself staring at them wordlessly. It should have been Asher doing this but the council of elders had pushed him to do what he was doing now.
Alex saw the look on her face and walked towards her with the baby in his hands. Baby Sam toyed with the small chain on Alex’s neck, giggling when one of the crystals glowed as the light hit it.
“Hey, You’re thinking again?” Alex said.
He always knew when she was thinking especially with that look in her eyes. He didn’t want her to think about anything else but the assurance that Asher would return safely.
“No, I was just thinking to myself” She said with a smile that barely made it to her eyes.
“You want to talk about it?”
Elizabeth shook her head in refusal. “it’s nothing”

Alex continued to play with the child until he fell asleep in his arms before he placed him gently on his cot, covering him up with his small blanket before stepping back to walk back to Elizabeth.
“Thank you” Elizabeth smiled.
“You don’t have to thank me. He’s my godson after all” Alex said with a shrug before settling on the sofa opposite her.
She took one of the snacks from the basket Izzy had brought earlier, cutting it in half, she offered half to him before putting one portion in her mouth. Alex smiled at her in gratitude while Elizabeth m****d in delight as the delicious goodness hit her tongue.
Alex looked uncomfortable with the sound she was making as he abruptly cleared his throat, getting her attention as well.
“Could you please stop doing that?”
Beth arched a brow, “do what? You also don’t like how I eat? Well no big deal, Asher also hates it” She said licking the sugar off her fingers.
“No, no, I don’t hate it. It just sound inappropriate and someone might hears it and think I’m doing something to you, you know?”
Alex said and it finally dawn on her.
“what? Oh my God, no. Please don’t even say that”
Alex chuckled at her reaction and she couldn’t help but join in as well. While she continued to laugh with her head titled against the chair, Alex only sat back to watch, only to be caught staring.
“Hey? Do I have something on my face?”
He shook his head, looking away. “No, I was just staring at your smile. I’m sorry”
Elizabeth only nodded in reply while he brought out his phone to text someone. She wondered if he has heard from Asher yet and when he was coming back. She thought about asking him but decided against it.
If Asher had asked, Alex would have mentioned it.
She was still thinking to herself when the thought of Izzy crossed her mind and everything they had talked about Alex before. It’s crazy to think Izzy has a thing for Alex even though he had never noticed her.
Beth wondered what would happened if she actually got him to notice and talked about her. She would like to know what he thinks about her friend.
“Alex?”
“Yes?” He answered in a haze, his thought probably buried into whoever he was texting.
“What do you think of, Izzy?”
“I think she is hardworking and smart. One of the decent girls we still have around here” Alex paused midway and then looked up to face her, his brow furrowed slightly in confusion.
“Why are you asking me, Elizabeth?”
She gave careless shrug.
“Oh it’s nothing”
Alex arched a brow, “Are you sure? Because you sound like it’s something”
“Okay fine, She like you” Elizabeth said sharply.
There was a look of confusion in his eyes as she stared at her.
“Who now? I don’t understand” He said.
“Izzy. She likes you very much and it’s crazy that you never noticed” Elizabeth said.
Another minute past by and Alex only stared without saying a single word as he simply stared at a spot on the wall above her head.
‘’It’s okay not to say anything but I just wanted to let you know. Whenever she’s around you or you with her, look deeper then you’ll see what i’m talking about.’’ she said and Alex sighed.
“Izzy is young and sweet and anyone would certainly be happy to have her as mate but it’s not me. I like someone else even though she is not mine to claim yet but someday, I hope I would finally be able to be with her” Alex said, his eyes alight with hope.
Beth eyes widen, “So you like someone else? Oh my God, Alex. Do I know her? Izzy would be so heart broken, I’m sure”
“No you don’t know her and no one else has to know. I will talk to Izzy about everything so she doesn’t keep her hopes up”
Elizabeth chuckled when she saw Alex’s face take on a small smile. It’s crazy to think that Alex liked someone else and no one knew about it. Or maybe Asher did but then again he is too stuck up to say anything to anyone.
They stayed in comfortable silence for a while, each with their own thoughts. They enjoyed the silence that the moment brought before Alex spoke up again.
“Tell me something, Elizabeth. How was your childhood like?”
