Chapter 80
“it’s a boy…oh my God, Asher. It’s a boy. You have a son” Eva cried even more as he took hold of the crying infant before wrapping him up in a towel before handing him to Asher.
While Asher took hold of the baby, Elizabeth dozed off with exhaustion. Everything that took place right after that moment she gave birth, she had no idea as she was completely passed out.
More minutes went by before Elizabeth fluttered her eyes open as she tried to get used to the bright light that filled the room. Even from where she lay, she realized she had been transferred to another room. A much bigger room than the one she had delivered in.
Beth closed her eyes for another minute, just breathing in the warm, fresh air that cascaded around the open windows. She noticed her pain was gone and she could finally breathe again and then it hit her.
Her child.
She hasn’t seen her child yet.
“My child” She croaked out loud as she struggled to get out of bed and go in search of him, thinking the very worst only to find Asher standing right there by the corner with her baby in arm.
“Asher?” She called at him and he looked up to face her and their eyes met before something unrecognized flashed through them before he moved them away to stare at the baby cradle in his arms.
From the look of things, he looked happy if not calm. Something that only left Elizabeth feeling confused. For a moment there, she really thought he wouldn’t even touch the baby due to the circumstances surrounding his birth but here he was, dancing with the baby in hand.
She can’t deny the immense joy that came with seeing him like that. Too many emotions were swelling in her chest as she continued to watched him cradle their child in his huge arms.
Elizabeth felt joy and nothing but joy in her heart. It was a beautiful sight she couldn’t even allow the privilege to dream about and now it was right there. There was nothing that could be compared to what she felt at that moment. Even though Asher was not the best of men, she couldn’t deny the fact that he cared for this child.
It was his b***d after all and the way he held the baby in a protective grip had her heart swelling with more joy. All the pain and hurt she ever felt, forgotten as well. This was all she ever wanted. Elizabeth wanted this bond between Asher and the child even if he didn’t care for her.
She doesn’t even know the gender yet if it’s a boy or not.
A tear threatened to slip through her eyes but she sniffed it back as Asher walked over and stood beside her bed, a small smile tugging at his lips.
“How do you feel?”
She shrugged. She wasn’t about to tell him what she was feeling. She wasn’t ready to begin talking with him like they were long lost friends after everything he put her through. If anything, Elizabeth was just happy he bonded well with their son.
“I feel like crap but I think I will live” She joked and Asher chuckled before his expression turned serious again.
“You did it Elizabeth. I didn’t think you would but you did it. I can’t begin to say how proud I am right now but thank you for this gift. I don’t think I deserve this”
Elizabeth stared at him, the expression on her face completely blank. She knew why he was thanking her but she wasn’t ready to acknowledge his appreciation. Asher had made her pass through hell before she was able to birth this child and before she would be able to accept his appreciation like nothing, a lot of things had to be said and discussed. Especially her execution.
If he thought for one minute that they could act like that is not a problem anymore go then he was the biggest joker of the century. Elizabeth couldn’t just forgive him easily because Asher had hurt her deeply, right down to her bone marrows.
“Asher?” Elizabeth called once again.
Her voice was still hoarse as a result of all the shouting and screaming she had done the previous night and Asher looked up to face her expectantly.
“Can I hold the baby as well?” She asked quietly and he nodded.
“Of course. I mean, he is as much yours as he is mine” He expressed with a chuckle and then she finally grasp the meaning of his words. She had given birth to a son.
Her son.
With one arm around her shoulder and the other grasping the baby to his chest, He helped her into a sitting position. Her body was still sore and he knew he had to be extra careful with her.
Once she was settled and ready, Asher moved closer to her and handed her the baby. Beth let out a breath upon seeing the baby with tears filled eyes. There was nothing she could use to describe this moment. It was filled with everything she had ever hoped for.
Her baby was the most beautiful little thing she had ever seen and beheld in her entire life and those eyes of his were staring right back at her. His eyes were the brightest green she had ever seen and it’s no doubt he was indeed hers.
More tears filled her eyes and clouded her vision as he continued to stare at her little bundle in arms. And those lips and cheeks were just like Asher’s. There was a striking resemblance between her baby and his father. Even though, he was still too young, it was just undeniable.
She was trying so hard to fight back tears but she was slowly losing the battle. Her baby was the most beautiful creature she had ever seen. He looked all innocent and beautiful. Right there and then, she was determined once again to protect her child with everything she had.
“He had your eyes” Asher said beside her and she nodded with more tears spilling.
“He has your lips and your fingers” She said hugging him to her chest.
“True but i can see that he’s going to take after you, Elizabeth” Asher smiled.
“How would you know that?” Elizabeth asked with raised brow.
He gave a shrug, “I just know”
Asher sighed, staring at his newborn infant in her arms. He couldn’t explain it but the feeling was there. This baby was going to take after Elizabeth, every single thing down to her heart.
That was what he wanted, he didn’t want his child to take after his heart. He knew he wasn’t the best person to take after and Elizabeth was good enough. Deep in his heart, he didn’t think, he deserve someone like her but she has given him the best thing he could ever ask for.
A beautiful son and now, he can only hope to be deserving of them both.
Asher watched as she continued to hug her son and peppering his little cheeks with more k****s while muttering words of appreciation to whomever was listening up there and at that moment he knew, he had to right all his wrongs and fast.
