Asher grabbed whatever clothes he could lay his hands on and quickly returned to the clinic and not once did he moved away as he stood by the door all through the night, monitoring Elizabeth’s health.

He knew deep down in his heart that she would pull through but still, he couldn’t help but worry about her.

If only he could do as his Beta has suggested, Asher thought with a sigh. He truly wish he could get her out but he knew it was too late and it’s not because he couldn’t do it.

A part of him wanted to do it. Another part of him knew, he’d be letting go of everything he was starting to feel and he doesn’t know if he can do that.

This isn’t about him or Elizabeth anymore. It was more than that. A little life was on the way and he would be damn if he threw the possibility of seeing a child of his born outside that camp.

Not even in his wildest dream did he imagined he’d come to care for a Lincoln bloodline and hell, he really tried not to feel an ounce of guilt whenever she is involved but little did he know he was setting himself up for a major crash by keeping her close in sight.

Every single hatred he thought he has for her was replaced with care and protection and now he could tell it was about to bring him to his very kneels.

Elizabeth has managed to melt something within him even without trying and that was the craziness of it all.

“She’ll be fine” Eva said behind him and he let out a sigh before pushing his weight away from the wall.

It was very late into the night now but Asher refused to leave the door. Eva had been monitoring her health for a long while now. Asher didn’t know what to expect but one thing he didn’t want to do was to put his hopes on something he wasn’t sure about.

It was better to keep his eyes open.

“Are you sure?” Asher asked, as he turned to face her.

Eva sighed, staring at Elizabeth’s b***d pressure from the pressure machine affixed to the wall.

“It’s still too early to know but from her vitals, she’s heading towards the right direction” Eva said firmly.

Asher heaved a small sigh of relief. That was far better than any negative news. Elizabeth was a strong woman and a fighter and it would be a matter of time before she comes back quicker than before.

“Okay” He agreed with a nod and Eva patted him on the shoulder.

“Try to get some sleep. You’ve been up for too long. This is not a war and doesn’t require you to be an Alpha male” Eva said teasingly and Asher let out a growl.

Even if he took Eva suggestion, he knew he won’t be able to close his eyes. Sleep was far from him and he had already prepared to stay up all night and nothing is going to make him choose otherwise now.

When he made no move to do as she had said, Eva let out a sigh.

“I’ll see you in the morning then”.

She placed her stethoscope on the table before giving Asher’s hands a gentle squeeze and walked back into the observation room where Elizabeth was kept. There was little to nothing she could do, now that Elizabeth’s health was a bit stable.

Asher watched her leave after a while with no expression on her face whatsoever. He drew a chair from the set of chairs that stood at a corner of the room. He positioned the chair to face the door. He didn’t want to miss anything, no matter how little it might be. He wanted to be there if she woke up.

A few minutes later, he rose up to his feet, pacing about. He couldn’t sit still no matter how much he tried.

He paced, his hands gripping his shoulder length hair he hadn’t had time to trim. Series of emotions ran through him as he thought about how best he could amend the situation he was currently in.

Asher signed yet again, expelling more breath from his lungs before sucking in more air. His thought was spinning out of control.

“F**k” Asher curse under his breath.

The council of elders’ request was also something that kept on bugging him in his heart. He knew that disobeying their orders was something he couldn’t dream of doing and at the same time, he could never carry out their plans.

Elizabeth had done nothing wrong but the more he made them see it, the more they were agitating for her death. They hated her to the bone marrow which was something he could understand given her situation and bloodline.

He went back to his chair after a while and sat on it as he stared out the window and into the night.

Everywhere was pitch black with little or no light at all. There was absolutely nothing in sight he could focus his eyes on before it darted back to Elizabeth and sighed.

If not for the heart monitor machine, he would have doubt she was breathing as she was completely passed out cold. The more he stared at the frown on her face, the more he imagine her words in his head.

Even when he thought her to be frustrating, it was nothing compared to how much he annoyed her.

“I have feelings for her” Asher muttered in between laughs.

His words were like a little wisp in the night air, flowing out of him just like his feelings for her.

All the laughs, the moments he had spent with her were all pointing to the fact that he was smitten with her. Besides being the mother of his child, she had intrigued him like no woman had ever done.

She was brilliant, smart, had the kindest heart and she never failed to put him in his place. She was the only woman who wasn’t scared of him with the exception of his late wife. She told him the truth without fear or favor and that was evident in the way she treated him.

Asher knew he was hooked and redemption wasn’t coming for him anytime soon. He had been roped in completely.

“This is going to be difficult” he thought out loud.

Getting those old to change their mind about her execution was going to cost him. That much he knew.

For years, they had disturbed him from effectively ruling the pack with her stupid guidelines and leadership but now, Asher was prepared to take the bulls by the horn.

It was time to claim his place and nothing was ever going to stop him. If war was to break out between him and the council of elders, so be it. He was tired of being a lap dog, one who had little to no say in the affairs of the courts.

It was annoying and downgrading and he wasn’t about to continue being the underdog they thought him to be. It was time for a change and when it came to the woman he cherished, nothing and absolutely nothing could stop him from protecting her.
