Chapter 68
“ I want to see Elizabeth” Asher pressed even more.
“Calm down man” Alex murmured from where he stood beside him.
He knew Asher had a violent temper but this was getting out of hand. He had a feeling that it was due to the fact that the elders already had him in a bad state and a little bit of push can just push him over the edge and so far, Eva seem to be doing just that.
“Tell him already, Eva” Alex couldn’t help but snapped.
Asher arched a brow, his eyes narrowing even more at Eva.
“Is she dead?”
“What? No, of course not. She is not but she’s in a very critical condition” Eva sighed.
That stopped Asher in his tracks. He stared at Eva as if seeing her for the first time as she tried to understand what she had just said.
“How do you mean?”
“When Elizabeth collapsed, she fell on the wrong side of her stomach which might have affected the baby in her womb” Eva said, solemnly and Asher eyes widen.
He never knew it was this bad. All he was thinking was that, it was probably her usual fainting episode and not this.
Elizabeth had passed through hell and he wasn’t there to offer any help. Asher was suddenly overwhelmed with guilt. Memories from the day Macy had died was suddenly flooding his mind.
If only he was with her, she would have still be alive and well and none of this would be happening but he wasn’t and now, Elizabeth needed him but he wasn’t there.
Asher knew he had to be strong. Now was not the time to throw blames and break down his shield. He was the Alpha for a reason.
“So how is she now and please don’t give me the generic fine. I really don’t want to hear it” He said after a while.
“I wasn’t planning to say that because I never sugarcoat my words… Alpha.’’ Eva snapped.
She was starting to feel the pressure pretty quickly and she could tell it’s not about to stop anytime soon. Asher had always being a handful and now he is slowly becoming a pain in the a*s and getting him to calm down might become a little more difficult and she doesn’t want that around her patients.
Eva was pretty strict when it came to her patient and Asher is no exemption.
“I’m sorry. I just want to know exactly how it is” Asher said, his voice now reduced.
“It’s okay, Asher. I don’t know how soon she would be able to leave the bed but for now, all I can tell you is that she is stable. I just have to keep her here to watch her closely just in case” Eva explained more and he nodded.
For several moments, Asher remained quiet, just molding over her words carefully.
He sighed after a while, taking a deep breath. This was more serious than he thought but he was quite glad that he had someone competent to take care of her. He didn’t know what he’d have done if someone like Eva wasn’t in the park ground. He had no doubt that Elizabeth would have been long dead.
“Okay, it’s best she stays here” he said.
“You really had no choice. I would have kept her here with or without your consent, Alpha” Eva said firmly.
If there was one person who wasn’t scared of him, it was Eva. She said the truth as it came without sugar coating or leaving anything behind and Asher knew it.
“Can I see her?”
Eva looked like she was about to object but decided against it. She knew Asher well enough to also know he wasn’t going to walk out of there without seeing her.
“Okay. Follow me”
Eva said and began to lead the way with Asher and his Beta following him closely from behind. She took them to a much secluded room before leading them inside.
Elizabeth lay asleep on the small bed with a small frown cresting her face. Asher let out a shaky breath as he stood at her bedside staring down at her with iv tubes connected to her left arms.
Her jet black hair was in a messy bun on top her hair just like he remembered that morning.
He reach out and took hold of her hand dangling over the bed before placing it properly beside her with a sigh.
“Don’t worry about it too much, she’ll pull through. Elizabeth is a really strong woman and I’ve seen time and time again how strong she is. She’ll pull through this Asher, you don’t have to worry” Alex said firmly beside him.
“You think so?”
Alex shrugged, “I know so”
Another minute went by before he took a step back and turned to face the doctor.
“Thank you, Eva” he sighed, rubbing his face in dejection.
“just doing my job, Alpha” Eva said with a hint of laughter in her voice and Asher nodded.
“Do you need anything else? Her clothes or whatever?”
“Her clothes maybe, she is going to need it as soon as she wakes up”
“Okay, i’ll just grab something and be right back” Asher said.
“You do that”.
He left the clinic soon, heading back to his room with Alex in tow. He could tell that his Beta was furiously thinking about something.
“Oh don’t tell me you’re about to lecture me right now, Alex”
Alex’s silence was killing him especially since he desperately wanted to know what was going on in that head of his.
Alex came to an abrupt stop and Asher turned to face him.
“You and I know all of this is wrong” He gesturing with his hands.
“I know Alex but you might have to be a little bit specific for me to understand exactly what you are talking about”
“I’m talking about Elizabeth, She doesn’t deserve all these”
“You think I don’t know that?” Asher barked.
“Then make it stop. Make all of these stop”
“How do that f*****g do that”
Alex took a step closer, his voice now reduced to a little whisper.
“Send her back before it’s too late”
Asher knew he was right. He could also feel it deep in his bone and at every corner of his being.
“We can get her out as soon as she is well again” Alex insisted as he stare deep into his eyes.
“I can’t” Asher breathe before walking away and leaving his Beta to stare right after him.
