Beth’s POV

It’s been an hour since Asher left. Elizabeth knew sulking would do her no good so instead, she spent it busying herself with reading even though the thought of Asher kept invading her mind every second.

She only had breakfast after Izzy help her with a bath and even braided her hair before leaving to carry on with her duty around the pack. Beth was still seating by the sofa when Asher walked in, looking worst than he left.

He came to a stop when he noticed her just seating there and she looked up to face him briefly before her eyes darted towards the floor. Not sure she wanted to hear what he has to say to her this time, she can very much see the expression on his face.

It’s obvious, he either had a bad day or still upset about what happened between them even though it was not her fault.

From her peripheral, she could see him shift his weight from one feet to the next before she heard his voice called at her.

“Hey” Asher said.

She heard him loud and clear but kept acting as though she didn’t as she continued with her reading, while ignoring him completely.

Asher had a look of frustration as he stood staring at her. He could tell they were back to the ignoring phase once again but he doubt if he has the stomach for any of it at that point.

If she wanted an apology for how he yelled at her then she might as well never talk to him for ever but then again, he needed her to know he was no longer upset about what happened between them.

“Elizabeth, i know I said it’s your fault we had s*x but that’s not true. I was just upset and just wanted to say sorry and hopes something like that never repeat itself ever again”

He stood only an inch away from her, staring at her with a blank look in his eyes.

“Okay” She said simply without sparing another glance at his direction

Asher was obviously lost for words as he stood staring at her. He looked like he was about to say something else but decided against it as he moved away from her and began to head towards the bathroom to shower.

It’s obvious he can’t be reasonable with her at this point.

Elizabeth muttered something unintelligible as she stared back at his retreating step forgetting that Asher hearing was quite impressive for a werewolf. She gasped in realization when Asher stopped mid track and turned to face her with brows raised at her.

“What did you say to me?”

“Nothing. I didn’t say anything”

“yes you did, Elizabeth and I heard you” he said and she gulped.

“To answer your question, the man who attacked you is no more and the rest are already in custody” He paused and arched a slight brow, “Would you like to go see for yourself?”

“What?” She croaked and he shrugged.

“I mean, if you would like to go interrogate them yourself since you think me to be too annoying and doubt I have enough care in me to capture the people who attacked you”

Beth was beyond embarrassed at this point. She didn’t mean to call him names and much less doubt his ability as Alpha but she just sort of did and he also happens to him have heard her as well.

“I’m sor_” She began to apologize but Asher cut her off.

“Save your apology for someone who cares, Elizabeth. I don’t care”

Asher walked into the bathroom and slammed it shut.

He was furious as he stood with hands twitching, wanting so bad to break but then again he knew he couldn’t do that. That woman was already on the verge of driving him nuts. He just couldn’t give her another reason to think she was succeeding.

Elizabeth on the other hand was still mounted in the same spot, totally lost for words. The tension between them was only growing by the second. She wished the ground could open us and swallow her whole but still, she doubt if that would solve anything.

She was stucked.

She was still deep in thought when she heard knocks on the door and she went to open it and discovered it was Alex, Asher’s Beta. She hadn’t seen him since Asher woke up.

She was meaning to thank him for all of his help. If it hadn’t been for him, she doubt her help would have been enough to care for Asher.

“Hey, Alex” She said smiling at the large man she now saw as her friend.

“Hey, Elizabeth” He called back before pausing midway, his eyes openly staring at her.

“You look different with this braids” He expressed before brushing a hand through the edges and her smile widen even more.

“Izzy wanted me to look like one of the pack women. If you think I look different then she must have succeeded”

“She did” Alex agreed with a nod before glancing behind her.

“Where is Asher?”

“In the shower”

“Alright, so how have you been?” He asked before leading her back to seat on the sofa. From the way he treated her, Beth could tell he cared for her. He even noticed her new hair do unlike Asher who was more concerned about his already bruised ego.

“I’m fine. Just tired” She said sadly and Alex arched a brow.

“You guys are at loggerheads again?’’ Alex said.

Elizabeth shrugged, clasping her hands together. Not sure if she wanted to explain exactly what happened and thankfully, he didn’t push her any further.

“Asher might be a little difficult sometimes but, don’t take it to heart, Elizabeth. Do you want to know a secret?” he smiled a mischievous grin at her and her eyes narrowed.

“Yes”

“Even though he act all crazy, he is really a big baby on the inside. Don’t let him intimidate with is machoness” Alex said, his voice nose reduced into a whisper.

Elizabeth burst out laughing and just then, Asher came out of the bathroom to her laughing with his Beta, as he stood with something unrecognized in his eyes.

Another minute went by before both head snapped at his direction and Alex got back on his feet and turned to face him.
