Chapter 959

“Ms. Anne Vallois, we suspect you are related to this case of murder. I hope you can follow us back to the police station to assist in the investigation,” Marco said.

Anne's heart almost stopped beating. “I... I did not kill anyone. I did not..."

“If it was not you, we will naturally not accuse you for it. Bring her along.” The last sentence was directed to his colleague. Marco was professional when it came to his work and did not show any mercy.

Anne was brought back to the police station.

She sat in the trial room, facing the cop interrogating her earlier. There was also a notetaker by the side, facing the computer.

Anne looked down at her seat. It was fixating her all around, almost as though she was a criminal. "So your name is Anne Vallois, and you are a tenant on the fifth floor. Can you please explain your relationship with the deceased?” Marco said.

Anne's eyes were watery, and her emotions tensed. She felt on edge and did not say anything.

She was so scared. Was she going to jail?

“Ms. Anne Vallois, I hope you can cooperate with the investigation. I will ask you a question, and you should answer. Otherwise, now we have evidence that is unfavorable for you, and we could prosecute you!” Marco sounded strict.

He sounded as though they were merely doing it for procedural reasons.

“No, no, no! I... I had an accident recently, and I lost my memory. The woman felt like a stranger to me. She showed up on my doorstep and told me that she was Bianca's mother and asked me to return my husband to Bianca.”

“So you did not agree and killed her,” Marco said.

“No, she smashed things around my place, and I was scared, so I... I ran away. When I reached the third floor, I heard a loud commotion from outside, and then I saw the tenants on the second floor rushing down. They said

someone had fallen. I did not know anything about it,” Anne said.

Marco then asked, “I heard that the unit was left vacant for a long time. Is that true?”

ess

“Then, did you ask to meet the deceased there?”

"No."

“Then why are you in your old residence? We inspected and noticed the place was not dusty but squeaky clean, as though someone cleaned it up.”

"Yes, I cleaned it a few days ago.”

“In preparation for the murder?”

“No! No! It was because I lost my memory, and I could not remember a single thing. I thought it was a good idea to check out my old place. Perhaps it could help to remind me of something. However, I did not expect Bianca's mother to look for me...” Anne denied.

“Do you really not know, or are you not telling me the truth? There are witnesses seeing you in the argument. There were only the two of you and the old lady who stayed alone across your unit on the fifth floor. Other than you, who else can that possibly be?” Marco asked.

“Not me, it really is not me. I don’t know...” Anne was desperate to defend herself.

The trial room door was pushed open by someone.

Anne looked down, and her fingers were twined together before her and slightly shuddering. Anthony entered and saw Anne being treated like a murderer. He saw Anne, who was so terrified that she was trembling involuntarily and was immediately enraged. He held his palm into a fist and walked toward Marco.

Ivan, who was by his side, immediately reminded him in an attempt to calm him down. After all, if this was something that could be solved, it was better not to complicate things further. “Mr. Marwood..."

Anne was stunned. She then looked up.

Her tears, which she held so hard in her eyes, streamed down uncontrollably when she finally saw Anthony.

The person who brought Anthony in strode forward to exchange a few words with Marco. They were speaking in such a quiet voice that no one else could hear them.

Marco looked to Anthony, then he walked forward and said unapologetically, “Hello, Mr. Marwood. I am Inspector Marco York from the Crime Investigation Team. Ms. Anne Vallois is suspected of being related to a case of murder. We are still investigating it. When we are done with the investigation and can confirm that she is not the murderer, we will definitely let her go.

The person who exchanged with him earlier could feel sweat rolling down his temples. He seemed unbudged after such a long conversation.

Did he not know who he was dealing with?

“Murder?” Anthony looked at him with his hawk eyes, and it was a hundred times more terrifying than the trial room itself. “Who are you accusing of murder?”
