Chapter 1596 Reputation Warning

Sally had it all figured out.

She was ready to let go of some pride and persistence and end the tug-of-war with Gideon that had lasted for over a decade.

However, the result was still regrettable.

Sally had been away for half a month, and Gideon could have found a way to contact her. She never blocked his path.

But he hadn't contacted her. As he had done numerous times, he waited for her return with unwavering confidence, acting as though nothing had occurred. "Well then, how about considering our marriage again?" Elijah's suggestions were like a depth charge.

The message conveyed a significant impact, despite its silence.

"What?" Sally looked at Elijah in shock.

"Ms. Campbell, you're intelligent and clear-headed. You know better than anyone that Mr. Hale isn't your suitable match," Elijah said with utmost directness.

"Are you a better match?" Sally found herself getting frustrated without any apparent reason. She stood abruptly. "Furthermore, why should I consider marriage with you even if I were to let go of Gideon? Am I incapable of living without a man?"

She angrily snatched a book from the nearby table and stormed off after expressing frustration.

The next day, she stayed in her room and didn't go out.

Elijah ensured the staff brought her favorite food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Two days went by like this. Then, Bob visited.

"Ms. Campbell, do you know your reputation isn't great?" Bob crossed his arms and began to speak, "Do you know what kind of person Uncle Elijah is? He started church when he was three. Uncle Elijah was already a highly respected monk before he left the monastery. Throughout the years, his family attempted to set him up with numerous potential partners, yet he never showed interest in them. He knew that your heart belonged to someone else, so he ensured nobody bothered you. Ten years have passed, and you have been pursuing Gideon while my Uncle Elijah has been anticipating this for the same duration. My child has already grown up throughout the time..."

Bob's voice grew softer as he spoke.

Sally remained silent, not saying a single word.

He had prepared himself to have a big argument with Sally.

But she remained silent, not saying a word.

Bob grew increasingly anxious in response. "What... What are you doing?" He asked.

"My reputation was tarnished by rumors spread by Jessica. She didn't want me recognized by my father. I didn't have any involvement with those men," Sally explained.

She let it all out and released a torrent of pent-up frustrations like never before.

"No one believes me. Anyone can use these malicious words to attack me!" Even Gideon believed it.

"Elijah is pure and lofty. I'm not worthy. Rest assured. I'll disembark at the next port. We won't have a chance to meet again. Are you satisfied?" Sally looked at Bob, who was utterly bewildered. She slammed the door violently shut.

She spoke from the heart. This half month was a rare period of relaxation and contentment in her life.

Sometimes, she couldn't understand. It was evident that the men desired her, yet why did it always end up being her fault in the end?

On this day, Sally hung a Do Not Disturb sign on her door and declined any food Elijah offered her.

By dawn, the cruise ship would dock at the next port. She packed her belongings, ready to end the trip prematurely, and prepared to put an end to the decade-long relationship with Gideon. The deck was deserted late at night.

Sally gazed at the starry sky and the mysterious moon. She held half a bottle of wine, left her room, and went to the deck alone.

Just as she sat down, someone approached.

She noticed a subtle scent of sandalwood without raising her eyes. It was Elijah.

"What are you doing here?" Sally seemed distant and lacked the warmth she had shown before. Her tone was icy cold.
