Chapter 1446 The Devil

Byron's head suddenly throbbed with pain.

Seth immediately turned back. "Alright, you shouldn't overthink anymore. I won't let my mom hurt you again."

Byron remained silent.

Seth brought him a glass of water and placed it on the bedside. He hesitated for a moment.

"After we leave the island, I'll find a way to do my best to heal you. Then you can decide what you want to do. Right now... Both Zora and my mom seem a bit off. Be careful," he said. Having finished speaking, Seth didn't wait for Byron's reply and walked away.

As he went down the stairs, Bertha was consoling Zora.

"If I had found out a little later, he would have gone to Athena. Mom, I almost lost Alan!" Zora clung to her mother, crying in a deeply aggrieved manner.

Seth watched. In fact, just now, while Athena was praying.

He was wearing a mask, standing behind the platform where she placed the flowers.

Seth clearly saw that Athena was praying with great devotion, tears streaming down her face.

No need for further thought. Seth knew what she was praying for.

She was praying for her beloved to return to her and their children's side as soon as possible.

What was Zora crying about? She had stolen another woman's husband and the other kids' father away. What was she feeling aggrieved about?

Seth's inner turmoil... Because he witnessed Athena's tears and knew that Byron had almost given up his life, he felt a heavy burden of guilt and anguish. "Mom, come with me. I need to ask you something," Seth said, his throat dry.

Bertha seemed to have guessed that Seth wanted to talk to her. She comforted Zora for a couple of sentences.

Then she followed Seth all the way to the kitchen.

In the kitchen, Byron's medicine for the night was being made.

Seth picked it up and poured it on the floor.

"Seth, be careful not to hurt yourself!" Bertha hurriedly moved forward to pull him.

Seth didn't move. He picked up a fork and started digging in the medicine.

There was a bit less of the medicine and an extra one not in the prescription, the Blood Vine. This was a poisonous vine that grew on the island.

Someone on the island had consumed it before, resulting in partial paralysis. His father specifically showed him and Bertha this particular herb. "This herb looks very similar to another beneficial one. Make sure you don't mix them up. It can be fatal!"

"Mom?" Seth stood up. He looked at Bertha in disbelief.

In his memory, Bertha had always been gentle and kind.

"Yes, I put it there!" Bertha's face was expressionless, devoid of her usual gentleness and affection. "Can't you see that Byron wants to leave? Even if he doesn't go with Athena, once he recovers from his injuries after leaving the island, he will abandon Zora and leave!"

"So, you want to turn him into a helpless, invalid person?" Seth's hands were trembling intensely.

He didn't understand... Why had Byron turned his sister into a paranoid woman and turned Bertha into such a ruthless person?

"Your sister finally left the pain of losing her father behind. She can't lose Alan. Losing Alan would devastate her!" Bertha said without hesitation, "I love you and Zora deeply. Protecting you and making you happy is my duty! For you two, I can do anything!"

Seth's heart ached. "I was wrong. I should have brought Byron to Athena from the beginning instead of selfishly bringing him back. I caused their separation. The children couldn't see their father. Now, karma has come. My sister and mom have become devils because of my greed!"
