Mitchel, who seemed so strong and invincible, was now showing his vulnerability to her, not for the first time.

After a while, Mitchel managed to say, "Thank you for bringing Janey into the world."

Raegan's body shuddered involuntarily. His simple expression of gratitude sparked a deep emotion within her, bringing tears to her eyes. It transported her back to the terrifying moment she fell into the river, her only thought being to protect her unborn child at all costs. That's why she used to say that Janey was her life, because she had risked everything to give birth to Janey.

Reflecting on those heartbreaking times made Raegan's heart flutter with renewed pain. The pain prevented him from continuing to face Mitchel. Almost without hesitation, she pushed him away.

As Mitchel looked on in shock, Raegan slammed the door shut, the sound echoing loudly.

The solid red pear wood door not only blocked Mitchel's access. It symbolized the determined closing of Raegan's heart towards him.

Leaning against the door, Raegan felt exhausted and stood there for what seemed like an eternity. He silently swore to himself that he would never let Mitchel influence his emotions again.

Outside.

Mitchel was standing, looking lost and lifeless.

Matteo approached, calling Mitchel twice, but receiving no reaction.

Observing the closed door and Mitchel's distressed expression, Matteo sighed deeply and suggested, “Mr. Dixon, let's go back to the hospital.

In the calm of the night, after a hectic day at work, Nicole was preparing to drive home.

As Nicole approached her red Maserati, the headlights of a luxurious black sports car turned on abruptly, projecting a harsh light.

Nicole shielded her eyes as the car pulled up next to her Maserati.

The car window rolled down, and Jarrod's distinctive features became visible, his voice sounding low and icy. "Go up."

It had been several days since Nicole and Jarrod had separated at the hospital.

Nicole had thought that Jarrod wouldn't give up so easily, and yet he hadn't sought her out until now. Was he so easily irritated? Everything seemed so boring. She still needed him. His interest in her couldn't disappear yet.

With a subtle smile, Nicole murmured, "I have to go home."

Jarrod looked at her and smiled. “Unless you want me to take you inside the car, you better get in.”

Jarrod had a small dimple on his left cheek that only appeared when he smiled, and Nicole had to look closely to notice it.

Lost in thought, Nicole remembered how much she used to enjoy his smile. His dimples, normally a sign of shyness, added a touch of charm to his appearance, making him appear both shy and attractive.

However, Jarrod's dimples, normally associated with charm, now had a hint of menace. His smile suggested that beneath his attractive exterior lurked a deadly threat.

Seeing her distracted look, Jarrod giggled. «You seem captivated by me. Have you missed me?

Nicole felt disgusted. He approached his car with a stern expression, wanting to open the door.

But before his hand reached the doorknob, he felt a strong tug from behind. Jarrod had gotten out of his car, grabbed her gently by the neck, and joked, "Since you're not getting in yourself, I'll take that as a sign that you'd rather I drive you."

Nicole found his boldness infuriating. Irritated, she asked, "Where exactly are we going?"

Jarrod, clearly encouraged, raised an eyebrow and cheerfully suggested, "Join me for a late-night snack."

Just as Nicole was about to reprimand him, her phone rang.

Recognizing the caller ID, his expression became serious. He pushed Jarrod's hand away and said, "Wait. "I have to take this call."

His reaction seemed casual and yet intimate. Jarrod's eyes darkened and he finally let go of her.

Nicole took a couple of steps forward and picked up the phone that was near the flower bed. “Yes, Mr. Steve?”

«Nicole, I need the case documents immediately. Can you send them?

“Excuse me, Mr. Steve. I'm not in the office. I'll resend them to you as soon as I get back," Nicole responded apologetically.

"Understood".

After ending the call, Nicole reflected on Jarrod's ruthless management of Deniz from the Vipo Group. That move had been essential to his success in pursuing the Hampton family project. His next target was a close associate of the president of the Hampton Group.

However, to gain his trust, he had to neutralize Jarrod.

Turning, Nicole noticed Jarrod looking at her. Without showing any emotion, he opened the car door and got inside. «Are you planning to leave me after eating? Let's hurry. "I need some sleep," he declared.

Jarrod, unaccustomed to her complacency, smiled and leaned against the window without starting.

"Are we leaving or not?" Nicole asked.

Jarrod looked at her coldly. "Do you expect me to be your driver?"

Nicole, surprisingly compliant, moved from the back seat to the front passenger seat.

Jarrod, considering lighting a cigarette, decided against it when he saw Nicole next to him.

Just then, he answered a call from his assistant.

Jarrod simply replied, "Okay."

He then started the engine.

He asked nonchalantly, “Are you not working anymore?”

Nicole was startled, but in a way she anticipated his knowledge. He openly admitted: “Yes, the constant traveling was exhausting. "Now I help out in a relative's small business."

"Does your relative work in the energy sector?"
