Janey, fresh out of the bathroom, was happy to see that Mitchel was still there. Breaking free of Ann's grip, she ran towards him, her expression adorable as she begged, "Daddy, could you tuck me in?"

“Janey, you have to…” Raegan started, but before she could finish, Mitchel had already scooped Janey up into her arms.

Turning to Raegan, Mitchel asked softly, "Can I spend a little more time with her?"

Raegan hesitated, not wanting to disappoint Janey, and finally nodded.

Janey clapped her hands happily and said, “Thank you, Mom. Dad, I'll take you to my room.

Once inside her room, Janey handed Mitchel a stack of picture books, asking him to read her stories.

Sitting on the edge of the bed, Mitchel began to read stories from the books.

Janey was full of joy and anticipation, her eyes closed but her eyelashes fluttering from time to time.

Mitchel's heart sank at his endearing gestures, and a constant smile graced his lips throughout the story.

Perhaps tired from her earlier tears, Janey struggled to stay awake despite her desire to enjoy more quality time with Mitchel, her eyelids drooping. Too drowsy to resist sleep, she murmured: "Dad, I love you..."

At that moment, Mitchel's chest was like a beehive filled with freshly harvested, incomparably sweet honey.

Leaning down, he gently kissed Janey's forehead, a gesture brimming with fatherly affection.

When Raegan opened the door, she witnessed the scene before her. Although the moment was warm, an unexpected bitter feeling arose in his heart. He wondered if he was being selfish. He realized that he had only thought about his own emotions, ignoring Janey's.

It seemed as if he was punishing Janey for Mitchel's mistakes, depriving her of the fatherly love she deserved.

Raegan signed. Maybe I shouldn't block their meetings out of selfishness. Even though she and Mitchel were no longer together, the truth that she was the mother and he was the father remained unchanged.

Raegan thought that regardless of their relationship, Janey deserved all of her parents' love.

His mind was in a whirl and he barely noticed when Mitchel got up to leave.

When the door opened, their eyes met.

Standing tall, Mitchel made Raegan look small.

Mitchel closed the door softly and swallowed before saying softly, "Janey's already asleep."

“Okay,” Raegan responded, not knowing what else to say.

"Is there something psychologically bothering Janey?" Mitchel asked.

Surprised, Raegan asked, "How do you know?"

Mitchel looked slightly worried: “It seems like he trembles unconsciously in his sleep.”

After a brief silence, Raegan explained: "Janey used to shake when she was younger. The doctor mentioned that it could be due to the mother's fright.

But he has improved a lot after treatment abroad.

The phrase "mother scare" hurt Mitchel deeply. He wondered how Raegan had managed to give birth in such dangerous conditions. He did not dare to delve deeper into his thoughts. The mere idea was suffocating enough. He berated himself for not being able to properly protect Raegan and his son. If he had another chance, he would protect them with his life.

Mitchel's eyes were determined, reflecting his firm decision. Without excuses or hesitation. He had to be by their side, ready to protect them no matter what happened.

The intensity of Mitchel's eyes startled Raegan, who quickly regained her composure and hurried down the stairs.

Mitchel watched her leave, with a sad expression.

Outside, Matteo had not yet appeared. Raegan stood by the door, hesitant to go back in.

Uneasy and seeing no sign of Matteo, Raegan asked, "Shall we call Matteo?"

Mitchel responded in a light tone, “It's not safe for him to answer calls while driving. "It will arrive soon."

Raegan hesitated, but before insisting, she listened to his proposal: «Luis knows a trustworthy psychologist. If it's okay with you, we can bring Janey, okay?

Raegan paused, not rejecting the suggestion. Janey tended to withdraw when her illness worsened. Although it was rare, a complete cure would definitely be better. He trusted Luis's experience in the medical field. Any doctor he recommended would be trustworthy.

Raegan agreed: "Okay, let's go see him."

Mitchel's smile brightened then, a warm light illuminating his handsome profile, accentuating his particularly charming smile.

While Raegan was still taken aback by his sudden smile, he added, "Yes, both."

She realized his insinuation and felt a rush of heat in her cheeks, eager to distance herself.

"Wait here alone..." Raegan couldn't finish her sentence when he suddenly hugged her.

Raegan's eyes snapped open, her gaze as fierce as a defensive little hedgehog, and she protested, "Hey, what's this about?"

Mitchel remained silent, resting his head against her neck, his breathing causing a tickling sensation.

Raegan tried to push him away. «Mitchel! "Let go of me."

“Raegan,” he whispered her name, his voice close to her skin.

Raegan froze. Then he said again, in a harsh voice: "Thank you."

Raegan was taken aback by his sudden gratitude.

As Mitchel hugged her, his tears seemed to fall onto her neck, touching her deeply.

Raegan stood still, somewhat incredulous. Was I crying once again?

Although it was only a tear, its rawness, in contrast to his usual behavior, stunned her.
