Katie emerged from behind, her gaze fixed on Raegan. "What brings you here?" she asked.

Katie was standing there, exuding an air of arrogance as if she were the one legitimately married to Mitchel.

If Raegan hadn't known the truth, she might have believed the facade. Ignoring Katie's presence without a word, he headed for the door, only to find Katie abruptly blocking his way.

A shiver, tinged with malice, flashed in Katie's eyes as her lips curved into a disdainful smile. «You can now turn around and leave. As Mitchel's fiancée, it is my responsibility to take care of him. “Your visits are unnecessary,” he declared with unjustified authority.

The smug look on Katie's face only served to amuse Raegan.

Raegan had held out a glimmer of hope that Katie had more wit than Lauren, but here she was, proving to be no better. Both Lauren and Katie seemed to share a penchant for weaving lies with little regard for the truth.

Raegan didn't see the value in wasting her time on such trivial confrontations. Her sole purpose was to check on Mitchel's well-being, prompted by the fact that he had passed out at home. The thought of any harm coming to him while under her roof disturbed her deeply.

Raegan had no interest in exposing Katie's charade. In an icy tone, he demanded: "Please move away."

"How daring!" Katie, unable to maintain a façade of grace in the face of provocation, sarcastically replied, "Do you want to be a mistress?"

Katie had crossed paths with Raegan enough times to believe that the "lover" label was Raegan's Achilles heel. By making this accusation, Katie intended to dispel Raegan.

Raegan's reaction, however, was one of calm indifference, her lips curling into a slight smile as she posed a pointed question: "Miss Glyn, are you suggesting that Mitchel has recognized you as his fiancée?"

Katie's gaze flashed with a hint of defiance, her voice laden with unconvincing confidence. "That's how it is. It is public knowledge that we are a couple. Save yourself your attempts to create problems. Enough of the unfounded claims.

Raegan's expression turned icy at Katie's audacity. The brazenness of his lies was astonishing. «Oh, yes? Why don't we verify your claim by asking him directly? Raegan proposed, her tone firm and defiant. What do you think, Miss Glyn? Do you have the courage?

“You…” Katie was speechless, her anger rendering her speechless.

Raegan, with her hand on the doorknob, asked curiously, “Miss Glyn, would you like to come in?” Or do I continue without you?

"He can't get in!" Katie's outburst came with her face contorted, an obvious sign of her agitation.

Raegan couldn't stop a sardonic smile from gracing her features.

Seeing Raegan's reaction, it dawned on Katie. Raegan had tricked her. Without realizing it, he had confessed the falsehood of his engagement to Mitchel.

Katie, now furious, accused: "Are you making fun of me?" In his opinion, Raegan was nothing more than a lowly adversary, unworthy of participating in such cunning.

However, it was Raegan who remained unwavering, and her retort cut the tension. “So, Miss Glyn, why do you choose to be a liar when you could be a decent person?”

Raegan's words were a sharp rebuke to Katie's charade, exposing the façade that Katie clung to so desperately.

Katie's face twisted in anger. This bitch! Did Raegan dare to mock her?

However, just as quickly as Katie's anger flared, it faded, replaced by a calm façade.

With a smile that didn't reach her eyes, Katie stopped acting. "So, has Mitchel confided in you that our relationship is merely for show, adapted to the situation at the time?"

Raegan remained silent, taken aback by Katie's sudden admission.

With a poised smile, Katie offered an explanation: “Are you wondering why we're putting on this charade? Mitchel's father tries to strip him of his authority. To maintain his position within the company, Mitchel chose to ally with me.

Raegan's response was cold and measured. "I am aware."

Katie was left speechless as her plans were thwarted. His fists clenched in frustration, and he raged internally. Mitchel had told Raegan everything. However, there was one detail that Mitchel had left out, simply because he didn't know it himself.

Wearing a calm appearance, Katie posed another question: "Do you know the reason for Mitchel's father's desire to undermine Mitchel?"

Raegan was lost. Alexis didn't seem to fit the mold of a loving father. He seemed more interested in manipulating Mitchel like he was a chess piece.

Before Raegan could express her confusion, Katie revealed more of the story with a sly smile. "Michel's father was furious when he found out about Mitchel's marriage to you and his refusal to be controlled. "His father sees him as nothing more than a tool, choosing instead to support Mitchel's stepbrother for the coveted position."

Raegan's expression registered shock. "That?"

Mitchel had a half-brother, an unexpected revelation that suggested complex family dynamics within the Dixon line.

Katie, enjoying her victory, could not hide her smugness.

«It is certain that Mitchel will marry me. "He needs me," he declared, his tone brimming with arrogance.

This statement seemed to lift a weight off Katie's shoulders. In his opinion, Raegan had no chance. Lacking wealth and influence, Raegan posed no threat to their aspirations.

With a grimace, Katie added, “Luciana will be arriving shortly. I suggest you leave as soon as possible. "He doesn't really want to meet you."

Raegan's hand, which had been about to open the door, stopped. The chaos of the moment had made him overlook unpleasant realities and characters from whom he wanted to distance himself. The mention of Luciana, Alexis, and the burdens of the past sparked a moment of introspection.

Raegan lowered her head. Why bother opening this door? Could there really be a future for her with Mitchel? Reality echoed a resounding no.

All Raegan sought was peace of mind, but Mitchel's presence invariably disturbed her peace. Recognizing the futility of clinging, he realized that the time had come to cut ties. Her visit was simply to see if he was okay. Beyond that, getting further entangled would only lead to heartbreak.

Katie, observing Raegan's delicate face, suppressed her malicious impulses. He issued one last warning: “Stay away from Mitchel. You are chasing illusions.
