Love Unbreakable by Bank Brook -
Chapter 407

Noticing her actions, instead of resting as expected, Erick asked with a note of concern, “Where are you going?”
Raegan carried a little guilt thinking about Erick's reaction. He waved his hand dismissively and lied: "I just got up to get some exercise."
Erick silently put down the container of food he was holding. "Eat something first."
She had brought some porridge specially cooked for the stomach and several light dishes prepared by her maid. Carefully, he arranged them on the table, inviting Raegan to dinner.
Approaching the table, Raegan looked at the porridge and plates.
Although simple, they were prepared to your liking.
Erick rolled up his sleeves and began serving Raegan the porridge, taking care to remove the ginger pieces.
Raegan did not like ginger, but its inclusion in porridge was beneficial for her health.
So, Erick had ordered the maid to add the ginger, planning to remove it himself before serving.
“Erick, I can handle myself.” Raegan felt slightly uncomfortable.
Erick's tenderness towards her was overwhelming, treating her with the utmost care.
“Make sure you finish everything,” Erick insisted.
Following his instructions, Raegan consumed every last bit of the porridge, causing a smile from Erick.
After eating, Raegan used the napkin Erick offered her to wipe her face and asked, “Erick, what made you come back all of a sudden? Is our father okay?
«It's much better. “He’s been worried about you and Janey, so he asked me to come back and check on you,” Erick responded.
“That's a relief,” Raegan replied, feeling somewhat relieved. He had been in daily contact with his father, who assured him that he was fine.
However, Raegan was worried that her father might be hiding his problems, and thought about taking Janey to visit him.
Her father, however, advised against it, claiming that it was unwise for Janey to miss class so soon after enrolling. He knew Janey was enjoying her stay here and wanted to save them the hassle of traveling.
"And what's wrong with you and that man?" Eric asked. He had received information from Victor, but he wanted Raegan to tell him the full story.
Raegan paused to gather her thoughts before sharing the entire incident, including Lauren's plans to drug her and subsequent attempt to frame her, thwarted by Mitchel's intervention. He lightly mentioned how he had helped Mitchel with his medical needs.
When Raegan helped with Mitchel's injuries, Erick, mistakenly thinking that Mitchel was taking advantage of Raegan, dished out bunches on Mitchel without hesitation. Raegan's revelation about medical aids made sense.
Erick wrinkled his brow slightly. He realized that he had acted impulsively. In fact, Mitchel was helping Raegan seek justice.
It had to be said that Mitchel throwing Lauren into Velvet Alley had been a good decision. A simple drug addiction charge would not carry a severe sentence, and a competent attorney could even secure probation.
Such a lenient punishment did not fit Lauren's crime.
Lauren deserved to face the harsh reality of Velvet Alley, a lawless place. The thought of enduring such hardships there was more daunting than imprisonment. The agony there surpassed the fear of death. The survivors often left broken, physically or mentally.
Raegan expressed concern: "I've been thinking about his condition since we left."
"So you were thinking of going to see him right now?" Perceptive enough to speculate on what was going through Raegan's mind, Erick looked at her.
Raegan was speechless. He hadn't anticipated Erick going through his pretense.
Raegan's concern wasn't just for Mitchel's well-being. More pressing was the fact that Erick had hit Mitchel countless times and yet he had not responded in kind to his demands.
The possibility that Mitchel would seek revenge once he recovered, or that his family would demand retaliation, weighed on Raegan. Things didn't go the way Erick wanted.
Raegan became worried and said, “Erick, you hit him. What if he seeks revenge?
“There is no need for you to worry about that, and you are prohibited from visiting him,” Erick firmly dismissed Raegan's concern. He was adamant about keeping her away from Mitchel.
Every time Mitchel saw Raegan, the former's paranoia and possessiveness boiled over. This deeply worried Erick, who saw himself as Raegan's protector. Reflecting on the hardships Raegan had endured in Ardlens in the past, he felt he was doing the right thing.
«And any help he gives you is his decision. Don't feel indebted.
He is simply paying a debt to you. Erick, aware of Raegan's compassionate nature, feared that she felt obligated to Mitchel.
Deflecting a blade did not simply clean up Mitchel's evil deeds.
“Okay,” Raegan agreed, but her mind wandered elsewhere. He couldn't get rid of the fragments of Mitchel's memories by protecting her more than once.
Lately, his mind had often wandered to past events, with some memories clear and others blurry. On countless occasions, what he had just remembered would leave his mind in the next instant. He feared Erick's concern, so he refrained from revealing these circumstances to him.
His current apprehension centered on Mitchel and Erick. His current concern centered on the possible consequences that Erick might face due to his rash actions towards Mitchel. Determining Mitchel's current status became their priority.
Suddenly, the door burst open. Nicole entered the room. “Raegan, are you okay?”
"I'm fine."
Despite Raegan's reassurance, Nicole scrutinized her closely, finding comfort only when she was certain of Raegan's well-being.
Since Elin was busy with business matters and couldn't visit the hospital, she had asked Nicole to take care of Raegan. Elin planned to visit her after finishing her duties.
Sensing that the conversation could turn to topics of female interest, Erick chose that moment to leave. Before leaving, he made sure Victor remained stationed at the door to keep an eye on Raegan, making sure she didn't slip away.
