Love Unbreakable by Bank Brook -
Chapter 228
? ? ? ? ?
Raegan looked at Henley seriously and spoke sincerely.
«I am fully aware of what I had said. After all, your leg was injured because of me. It is only right that I stay by your side to take care of you until you are completely recovered.
Hearing his words, a change came over Henley's face. The sparkle in his eyes seemed to fade.
Raegan was really innocent. How could he entertain other thoughts?
Having established a plan for his ongoing treatment, Henley contacted a renowned specialist in this field. He was preparing to undergo surgery in the coming days.
Police visited the hospital to take Henley's statement. Henley recounted his reasons for being there that night as his concern for Raegan. She had arrived at Raegan's house just in time to see Tessa kidnap her. He followed them, biding his time to save Raegan.
Police verified his story with surveillance footage. Everything coincided perfectly with the timeline.
Meanwhile, Raegan was calculating the length of Henley's next treatment. It was going to be a longer affair than I had anticipated.
Taking into account the timing of the operation, he realized that he would need at least a month off work. Normally, his company did not allow such a long leave.
So he considered resigning.
She felt compelled to take responsibility for Henley's condition. Had it not been for her intervention, she would have been the one who would have suffered a fall from a great height.
However, by discussing the situation with his supervisor, he found support. His supervisor agreed to fill his position during his absence. Furthermore, her students extended their hands to her, promising that they would continue to be diligent and study hard while she was away.
Bryce, in particular, seemed transformed. He earnestly promised Raegan that he would make great progress in her absence.
This promise comforted Raegan. After tutoring these kids for a long time, she was reluctant to leave them.
Before her departure, Raegan visited Kyler in the sanatorium. He did not reveal his plans to accompany Henley in his treatment abroad.
Instead, he mentioned that he was going abroad to continue his studies, not wanting to worry the old man.
Kyler was overjoyed to learn of her plans and praised Raegan for her talent.
Later, Raegan went to see Nicole, who had been released from the hospital and was now engrossed in resolving company matters.
Raegan still didn't know the origin of Nicole's funds. The eighty million dollar loan had been repaid and Nicole had managed to sell the batch of finished products to smaller companies at a reduced price.
The ordeal had cost the Lawrence Group tens of millions, not to mention stock market losses, which amounted to hundreds of millions in total.
The bankruptcy of the Lawrence Group seemed inevitable.
Nicole was overwhelmed by the final liquidation of the company.
Raegan shared the news of Henley's treatment abroad with Nicole. Although Nicole was worried about Raegan, she was deeply absorbed in her own problems. In the end, he promised to visit Raegan once his affairs were in order.
As Raegan was about to leave, Nicole stopped her with a sudden question: "Have you heard from Mitchel lately?"
“What is it about?” Raegan asked, curious.
"I've heard that the major shareholders of Mitchel's company are challenging him at board meetings," Nicole explained.
"It appears that his frequent hospitalizations have led them to question his ability to run the company."
This revelation left Raegan stunned, remembering Luciana's earlier comments.
Indeed, if Mitchel, the CEO, was in poor health, that would naturally disturb the stability of the company.
Nicole, unaware of the details of Tessa's actions or Mitchel's injuries, treated this information as mere rumor.
"I think Mitchel must be pretty busy lately," he continued.
«It was rumored that he might marry the daughter of the Glyn family.
The Glyn family is quite influential, second only to the Dixon family. A union between their families would be beneficial for both parties.
The Glyn family? Was Mitchel going to marry Katie?
Luciana had once commented that the two families were equal in every way.
Raegan walked back into the hospital, deep in thought.
He remembered Luciana insisting on the importance of family origin.
He felt helpless, unable to help Mitchel with his problems. Most of the time, it felt like a burden to him.
This time was no different. He felt as helpless as before.
He realized that he was partly responsible for the crisis facing the Dixon Group.
As Raegan waited for the elevator, deep in thought, the doors opened, revealing a surprising scene.
Inside were Mitchel and Katie.
Seeing Raegan, Katie greeted her warmly: "Hello, good to see you again."
Raegan responded with a nod, "I'm glad to see you too."
Katie asked, "Are you here for Mitchel?"
“No, I came for a friend,” Raegan replied, shaking her head.
As she spoke, she noticed Mitchel looking at her coldly before turning around.
His indifference weighed heavily on Raegan's heart.
Katie stayed behind when Mitchel left, apologizing to Raegan: "I'm so sorry about yesterday." I didn't realize that Luciana had given you the bracelet before. It caught my attention and I asked for it. If I had known its meaning, I would not have asked for it.
Raegan smiled.
"No problem".
Katie smiled back.
«To be clear, Mitchel and I are just close friends. Don't get the wrong idea. "We grew up playing together, and he's never seen me in a romantic light."
Raegan was taken aback by Katie's frankness and chose not to talk about it in front of Mitchel.
“There is no misunderstanding on my part about your relationship with him,” Raegan reassured.
Katie's smile widened.
«That's a relief. I would hate to be the cause of any conflict between you and Mitchel.
Raegan quickly responded: "There's nothing between me and Mitchel.
Don't think too much, Miss Glyn.
«Nothing between you and Mitchel? How is it possible…?
Katie was about to say something else, but Mitchel interrupted her: "Are you coming or not?" He sounded impatient.
With a smile, Katie told Raegan, “I should go now. We will talk more another time.
Raegan nodded and entered the elevator.
As the elevator doors began to close, he saw Katie playfully nudge Mitchel and say something to him with a smile.
Katie, standing next to Mitchel, looked effortlessly elegant. They seemed like the ideal couple.
When the elevator doors closed completely, Mitchel's familiar scent remained, now mixed with the scent of another woman.
The smell of the elevator left Raegan with a heavy heart and tears in her eyes.
Entering Henley's ward, he found the nurse tending to Henley's bandages.
The sight of the raw wound, wrapped in gauze and tainted with the mingled odors of medicine and blood, turned Raegan's stomach.
He was trying to calm down when the nurse asked him for help.
“Miss, could you help me with the gauze?”
At that moment, Raegan couldn't contain herself any longer.
He began to retch uncontrollably.
The nurse and Henley looked at her in amazement.
“I'm sorry,” Raegan said quickly.
"I may have eaten something that didn't agree with me."
As she spoke, her stomach churned again, forcing her to run to the bathroom and empty its contents.
From the bathroom, the sounds of her vomiting left the nurse speechless.
Henley's expression turned grim. Did it disgust Raegan in some way?
After the ordeal, an exhausted Raegan leaned on the sink to rinse her hands.
His reflection in the mirror showed his paleness, a stark contrast to his usual appearance.
Raegan was convinced that her discomfort was probably due to the food she had eaten for lunch, which had not agreed with her stomach.
As she left the bathroom, she noticed that the nurse had finished changing Henley's bandage and that a fan was now on, circulating air throughout the room.
Concerned, Henley suggested, "Raegan, if you're not feeling well, go back and rest."
"I'm fine," Raegan assured him, shaking her head.
«It was probably something I ate for lunch. I'll feel better soon."
Henley's expression became more worried as he took in her pale complexion.
Two days later, a private plane, arranged by Henley's parents, was ready for them at the airport.
Raegan and Henley traveled in a specially equipped rescue vehicle to the airport.
As Raegan looked out the window during the ride, a feeling of heaviness filled her heart.
He hadn't seen Mitchel since their last meeting. Later, he heard the Dixon Group's official statement on television.
The situation seemed serious, with Mitchel caught up in the middle of it all.
Raegan felt like an outsider, unable only to watch the news, powerless to help Mitchel in her time of need.
She was increasingly aware of the enormous gulf that separated her from Mitchel, feeling that her world was moving away from his.
Henley, lying on his side, watched Raegan intently, his gaze deep and unreadable.
Since discovering that Raegan was the girl from his past, Henley has noticed a change in himself. He had become possessive, almost obsessive.
He disliked seeing Raegan lost in thought, her mind thinking about Mitchel.
The thought bothered him incessantly.
“Raegan,” Henley shouted, breaking his reverie.
Raegan turned to him and asked, “Yes? What's happening?".
“Do you ever regret it?” Henley asked, his tone serious.
Raegan, initially perplexed, thought he was referring to their trip together for treatment abroad. She offered him a reassuring smile, her voice carrying a comforting tone, “Of course not, Henley. "I am here for you, and I will stay by your side until your leg is completely healed."
Henley's gaze intensified as he asked, What if my illness is incurable? What if I remain incapacitated forever?
