Chapter 1546:
? ? ? ? ?
Jarrod's expression darkened dangerously. "Shut up!" I snapped.
Nicole, acting on impulse, tugged on Roscoe's sleeve, urging him to remain silent to avoid inciting Jarrod further.
However, driven by a deep sense of medical duty, despite his personal feelings towards Alec, Roscoe could not remain silent.
Furthermore, Roscoe felt indebted to Jarrod, and saving Alec might lessen that debt. A living person's life was at stake, anyway.
With determined urgency, Roscoe told Jarrod, "If we don't amputate now, he might not last half an hour."
Roscoe insisted: "Even if the helicopter comes, there is no way to move the tree. The arm still needs to be cut off. The situation will not improve without that."
His tone was matter-of-fact, void of emotion, as he spoke of the stark reality of the situation.
Roscoe's current weakness prevented him from accomplishing the task himself, so he instructed Jarrod with unwavering resolve.
Jarrod, who was not a surgeon by training, knew the critical nature of an amputation. One wrong move could be fatal.
He hesitated, looking at Alec's pale face and bloodless lips, then reluctantly pulled out a knife.
His hands, usually so steady in high-risk situations, felt heavy with the weight of what he was about to do.
“Disinfect the blade with alcohol,” Roscoe ordered, his voice cutting through the tension. “Tear off a strip of cloth and tie his arm tightly.”
The bodyguard started to comply, but Jarrod took over, securing Alec's arm so tightly that only when he was satisfied it was secure did he move forward.
Alec had been more than just a bodyguard; he had become like family to Jarrod over the years.
Now, Jarrod felt the burden of ensuring the procedure was performed accurately, even though he lacked the necessary skills.
With his arm secured, Roscoe examined him closely, realizing how daunting the task would be. Nicole, eager to help, helped Roscoe reposition himself to get a better angle to guide the procedure.
But as Nicole moved to help, Jarrod's dismay grew. It seemed to him that Nicole and Roscoe shared a connection, a bond that made him feel like an outsider in this time of crisis.
Oblivious to Jarrod's thoughts, Nicole was focused solely on helping, driven by guilt over the events that had happened before. However, she did not fully regret her actions: she had made a difficult decision that she believed was necessary.
Roscoe, summoning his remaining strength, raised his hand to give an order. “Right here. Don’t go anywhere near this spot.”
Jarrod, accustomed to high-pressure situations, focused intently. His hands were steady as he made a precise incision.
He knew that hesitation would not save Alec; any delay would only increase the risk. Even if the helicopter arrived, his arm would have to be amputated. The urgency of the situation demanded quick action.
However, the conditions were far from ideal. Jarrod was not wearing medical gloves and the knife he used was not a surgical instrument. His hands were stained with blood, creating a grim scene.
After two failed attempts, Jarrod paused. “This isn't working. The knife can’t cut through the bone.”
After all, it was a regular knife, not a bone saw. Roscoe, unfazed by the blood and the urgency, corrected him: “Your angle is wrong. There’s a joint between the bones that has been displaced by the impact.”
