Chapter 1292:
? ? ? ? ?
At the potential threats to Austin, Nicole's complexion turned ashen.
"I heard that your son is on the waiting list for a transplant. It would be a shame if he couldn't make it by then, wouldn't it?"
Vicki sighed and continued, “He's just a kid. He hasn't had a chance to see the world yet. Wouldn’t it be tragic if he died just like that?”
“How dare you!” Nicole clenched her fist tighter, her voice filled with rage. “If anything happens to Austin, I’ll kill you both.”
Nicole mentioned “both of them” because she thought Jarrod had entrusted Austin to Vicki, proving his negligence as a father. He was no better than a beast. If anything happened to Austin, she would do anything to make them pay, to avenge her son.
“In your current condition, how do you suppose you could do anything to me?” Vicki mocked.
"In my eyes, you are nothing more than an ant. And as for that son of yours, if I feel irritable, a simple movement of my fingers could end his life."
Vicki leaned close to Nicole's ear and whispered these harsh words, like a sharp needle stabbing straight into Nicole's brain, the pain sharp.
“You lunatic!” Nicole's entire body shook with fury. Vicki's true nature was now completely exposed. Vicki seemed kind on the outside, but she harbored such dark intentions.
Vicki didn't mind Nicole calling her crazy. In fact, embracing the craziness seemed even more liberating.
Tucking a stray hair behind her ear nonchalantly, she suggested, “Maybe you should take the job I've gotten you. It’ll keep you too busy to seduce Jarrod, which would be best for everyone, wouldn’t it?” Her voice remained soft and gentle, hiding the venom beneath.
“I…” Nicole struggled to voice her objection, her words stuck in her throat. She didn't dare play with Austin's life.
Confident in her influence, Vicki pulled out her phone and played a video for Nicole.
“Look at your son, his fever has turned his ears red. Quite a sight, isn’t he?” Vicki's tone was deceptively sweet as she cruelly mocked Nicole for Austin's illness.
Nicole was shaking, completely helpless. Austin's well-being was controlled by Vicki. At that moment, even talking to Jarrod seemed pointless.
After all, Jarrod was going to marry Vicki and Nicole knew Jarrod's character well. Although he could not truly love her, as a businessman, he always put his own interests and reputation first.
The Hampton family had supported the Schultz Group through its most difficult times. Therefore, driven by both sentiment and logic, Jarrod was obliged to marry Vicki to honor the Hampton family's generosity and to cement his reputation in the business community.
After all, no one respected those who exploited others and did not keep their promises.
For Jarrod, marrying Vicki was essential to securing the Schultz Group's position at Ardlens. Therefore, Jarrod would not punish Vicki for Austin's sake. The transaction simply did not justify it. In fact, for Jarrod, everything could be seen as a transaction.
“Miss Lawrence, this is an excellent opportunity for you. If you accept now, you could save Austin further distress. Don’t you agree?”
Vicki insisted. Her words left Nicole speechless, her options seeming to evaporate. Austin was Nicole's vulnerability. Nicole couldn't and wouldn't ignore that.
“Okay, I’ll go.” Nicole agreed almost instantly. What other choice did she have? Submission seemed to be her only option.
Pleased, Vicki commented, “Miss Lawrence, your decision is wise. You will be going tonight. I have made an appointment with someone I know. Please be sure to treat him with respect. Do not disturb my guest, understand?”
Nicole felt a premonitory chill and asked, “Who have you prepared for me?”
Vicki laughed sinisterly. “Miss Lawrence, don't worry about it. You’ll know very soon, when you arrive.”
Her laughter sounded strange and disturbing. Nicole felt that trouble was awaiting her. However, she had no choice but to comply with Vicki's plans.
